This was, in my opinion, very well done. It was done in 1 shot, the randomness of the advance, the fumbling of the STG 44 clip is unlike the movies, very realistic and representative of the true nerves experienced by soldiers when under fire. Thank you for this, I enjoyed it very much 🏆

In about six minutes you lose comrades, cut-down in an instant. People you may have spent months, or years, fighting alongside. Perhaps you trained together, knew them in civilian life. Now they're gone, just like that.
Their friends & family will never see them again; perhaps, they will have a grave to visit, but many won't even have that small comfort - just some faded photographs & a few medals.
You may be thousands of miles from home, fighting to the death with strangers in some random woodland. It is terrifying & surreal, it may affect you for the rest of your life.
War is not glorious, it is mass insanity.

Literally the first time in film/shows/games that I have seen someone fire an STG44/MP44 on semi auto. This is amazing all around. A lot of productions use over-the-top action and gore to drive up the intensity, but this was so tense, and most tension came during the inter-combat periods. Just them waiting to see where they would be attacked from next, it was so good!

Kind of memorable. Memorable enough that I recall in one of the final scenes of Brad Pitt's character in the movie of Fury, he selected semi-auto just before running out of ammo. Then he used it as a bat. Then it went to the ground. And I said, "NOOOOooooooooo"!!!!!!!! My anguish was not for the character, but for the STG.

Excellent cinematography, the way the footage was shot gives an uncommonly realistic sense of accompanying the soldiers (particularly the "Zugführer"/squad leader) during the assault. Almost like the viewer is an invisible observer, love it. A good example of how this technique changes your viewing experience--you see the protagonist's realization of and reaction to the presence of a hostile shooter in the tree above him. Then, the enemy sniper up in the tree falls vertically into, and once again out of, your line of your of sight. The camera perspective is continuous & fixed level, as it would be if you were standing there looking at your squad leader...blink and you miss it. It makes all the difference when contrasted with the normal movie style in which you would suddenly cut to a new shot looking up at the tree from sufficiently far away to see how the sniper is positioned in the tree, how far up he is, what he looks like possibly even, then the impact of the bullets into him and his fall, before cutting to the next shot. In respect to realistic immersion, i mean

It's good to see a WW2 film without propaganda built in. Just straight up action like you were there watching the fighting. It is a distinctly different perspective without the political messaging meant to give meaning to the fighting, and suffering, and dying we're watching. That includes the film-making: no heroic soundtracks, no exaggerated special effects, no "heroic" charges, or overacted deaths, just simple small infantry squad engagement. Sometimes, you want the story. Other times, you just want the unpolished truth.
As I write this, I have to commend the artists for being able to communicate that emotion I just described so succinctly in just 6 minutes. I probably spent longer thinking, composing, and editing this comment. =)

The STG44 was a great gun. Hitler had actually tried to stop production of the weapon earlier in the war because he didn't like it, but investors actually got Albert Speer to continue producing it while keeping it a secret from Hitler. It was extremely effective in combat and well received by the units on the eastern front. It wasn't until near the end of the war that Hitler found out it was still in production because some of his commanders had asked for increased numbers of the STG44 which had become known as the MP 44 at that time.

I've served a long time in the military (I was born of soldier blood), I've also seen a lot of war movies, some good, some bad, but let me tell you something. This film is up there in reality. Stunning camerawork, sound, pyrotechnics and wardrobe effects, and not to forget, the supreme score, storyline and acting. 🔥👊

I agree with all the positive comments on the film. It's beautifully filmed and not "overdone" but lets be honest..The "enemy" in this film were set up in the some of the worst possible ambush positions, with no overlapping lanes of fire, laying in the wide open, and having other members basically down range. Might have been worth having someone with a bit of military background provide a bit of input. I am not normally a person who gives negative feedback but this could have been a total gem. 9/10

I agree that the defenders were spread out and not supportive of each position. It seems that when they saw the platoon advancing that they should retreat to a more defensible position. They were sitting ducks there. But, I don't play video War Games so .... Maybe someone with tactical warfare skills can chime in ?

American here. After my father recovered from his wounds from fighting Japanese, he was a POW guard at Fort Benning, Georgia. This was the first big group of German POW'S from North Africa. They worked on railroad tracks repair and maintenance, loved southern American food, and nobody ever talked politics. The German senior officer spoke good English, and the soldiers did excellent work and never complained.

All those who survived combat got some amazing adrenaline rush. My father, my uncles, my grandfathers and many of my relatives who fought in both world wars. Scared in the beginning but then it was like going to work....no fear. No greater high than shooting someone and not getting shot. Few lucky ones lived to tell about it.

No fear? The fear of not knowing if you are going to live incomprehensible.
      It actually is overwhelming.
They say the soldiers of ww2 acted like they were dead allready. But that is exaggerated. Most probably pissed their pants when under fire.
      Just like us.
      Don’t glorify war.

@@praetorian3959 My father was not in organized army. He was a guerilla partisan. No rules....Kill of be killed. Don't expect to be captured alive, don't take any prisoners. Typically ambushing the enemy, unload with all you've got and then run. My father was just a 15 year old kid, no education, no job skills. But he and those like him loved their country and wanted invaders killed. I am not glorifying war. My point is, man can get used to anything, some quicker and better than others. Married man with family could never get used to it. He stood too much to lose.
