I spent 9 years in Germany up til 2000 with the British army, and married a local. Her Grandad was a disabled man called Erich, a lovely, kind and humble gentleman. He served with the wermacht in Normandy and told me his story, how he was shot in the face by a British patrol whilst in retreat from the coast. A round hit him in the cheek bone which obliterated his jaw and left a gaping hole in the rear of his skull. Despite this, he marched on foot with his platoon all the way back to the German lines over 100 miles, where he found a doctor to treat him. The doctor asked what the problem was, and Erich told him of his injury. The doctor said, well if that's true "where's the bullet then"? Erich felt the back of his bandages and amazingly, it fell out into his palm. By the time I met Erich he had been the local church organist for over 50 years, and was extremely religious. We used to visit him and his wife for coffee and cake, exchange stories and they were just lovely people. Erich used to have to hold his face while he ate, as he had very little jaw bone in his face and there was a danger he could choke on his food. He got tired quickly and suffered immense headaches regularly, so needed to lie down. Despite the sadness of his experiences at war and his disability due to his injuries he would regularly catch the tram into town to go shopping. On one such occasion he was pick pocketed and had his wallet stolen containing all his money and the bullet that he had saved and kept with him all those years. Erich had served in the Deutsche Wermacht, not because of any beliefs, but because he had to, and only had God and his family in his heart. We see these people portrayed still to this day nearly 80 years on as the enemy and as the "baddies" however, Some of those who refused to do their bit were murdered, and many of those who did were just like Erich. Great Grandfather was into motorcycles long before the war, he was with the 1st Hassars Tank Battalion i believe, some point in the convoy there was a little skirmish and a German motorcycle was left abandoned by a motorized scout unit, he ended up dismounting the tank during rearming and regrouping and took it for a spin. giving officers a ride to the front and back of the columns. At some point the columns got the order to press forward and they started rolling out, there was a break in the road, one leading to a FOB in a town. and one path lead right through no mans land straight toward the German front lines. Whilst he was goofing off, he managed to lose sight of the convoy and ended up rolling down the road to the German lines, thankfully, the motorcycle ended up running out of fuel and oil due to a few well placed bullet holes in the tanks. Having better judged his surroundings and his current route he ended up turning around and walking back to the fork where a few angry officers and friends were waiting for him. He was the only man I'm aware of that was in no mans land before any big assault. all the while hooning around on a German motorcycle. My Lamprecht family came to East Prussia in the 17th century as settlers from Switzerland and the Palatinate. In the 19th century, one of them settled on the lands of the Russian Empire and Lamprecht lived happily there. In 1920, Poland came to these lands and Lamprecht became a Pole. He defended Poland in the Polish-Soviet War. He received the highest awards. During WW2, the Russians took him to Siberia to work. My father was born there. Lamprecht, taken into the Polish army, crossed the entire front and captured Berlin. There, 1945 met German POWs for registration. One of them was Lamprecht. They stared into each other's eyes for a long time. They each went their own way. Today I live in Warsaw, Poland.
Friedhelm was really tragic character in this series. First he was almost pacifist looking at war horrors happening, later he got slowly changed and didnt care much about anything anymore.
My uncle (a paratrooper) was killed in Crete during that invasion - I watched in its entirety a few years ago - This is a brilliant point in the mini-series, where the brothers actually exchange places - the studious pacifistic brother replaces the family Hero - the combat footage is top notch, along with the dialog and emotive tone - not many war films can claim this level of authenticity and pathos
I recently read about Crete and what a horrific waste of life it was. Young boys in their prime, landing on enemy positions, only to be disembowled by bayonets as they fought to get their harnesses off. Then when the tide turned, confused allies caught in crossfires and aerial bombardments, or being led by generals too inept to read a map. WW1 and WW2 were truly criminal in all that blood they squandered
Both my father and grandfather fought in WWII., on the German side. My grandpa blew off his hand, fighting the Russian. My father was a volunteer. My grandpa was a draftee. . Never lump anyone into a bag. Js
My grandfather's brother reached Berlin and went missing. In 1993, we received a registered letter from a certain Ada Schneitz in Russian to the old address of my grandfather in a village in the Altai, in which none of our relatives, the Usoltsevs, had lived for a long time, but it was lucky that the director of the school had a connection with the military registration and enlistment office and the letter was delivered to US. turns out to be grandfather's brother Alexei Usoltsev and lives in Canada. Berlin has indeed been awarded the Order of the Red Star. but during the year of his stay in Germany, he fell in love with a German woman, Elda Weimer, and having read that the duty to the Motherland completely fulfilled the difficult decision to stay with Elda. Together they emigrated to Switzerland and to the USA and Canada. Aleksey Usoltsev lived under the name Alex Vaimer until the age of 87, worked as a mechanic on a ship, bought a house from him 2 daughters Ada Schneitz, they never met with my grandfather Semyon Usoltsev (also a veteran of the BVO). In 1998, Alex Weimer came to visit Russia. At that time he was 80, but he was a peppy and fit old man, who spoke Russian perfectly, told an amazing story of his life, how he traveled almost the whole world. how much he missed and worried about his relatives, how once he met in the port in a Russian ship, having heard his native speech, he almost gave up everything and wanted to return, but he already had a family, and it is vaguely revealed how he will be met. The war took a lot from him, but it was not accidental either. How could he think as a kid, living in a remote village, that someday he would visit almost all the capitals of the world. In 2005, he was gone.

more often than not close range fighting was done with a bayonet, even for the Americans. The MG42 was a pretty devastating weapon, but if it was disabled a large portion of the German squad's firepower was gone. Whereas if an American Browning Machine gun was destroyed, the squad could make up for it somewhat with fire from the BAR and M1 Garand.

One of the most awesome videos I've ever seen, although I'm not a fan of one soldier rushing and tearing the defences in a moment of rage without the multiple machine guns getting a shot at him.
I believe it did happen, something straight out outrages. Look at band of brothers with ronald speirs, its not unrealistic but obviously not highly frequent. My grandfather was a soldier in the Free French forces in Italy. He didn't like talking about the war that had traumatized him. He knew the horror of fighting with fear in his stomach, terrible wounds, the stench of corpses and hand-to-hand combat where, to survive, he slaughtered Germans. When he returned home, he was never the same again. He suffered all his life from nightmares and depressions. There is nothing glamorous about war. It only brings misery.

You have a lot of veterans commenting here who have seen some shit. I myself have played castle wolfenstein numerous times so i can also comment on what is realistic and not.
I find it fun to discuss realism in these type of scenes because ive studied this a lot. And the fact that this is such a realistic movie makes people analize it more. If it was a over the top, hollywood style movie, no one would analize it becsuse no one expect it to be realistic
Damn I just realized that the lieutenant (I think he's a lieutenant) is the main character from Babylon Berlin. So he's staring in two great German TV dramas. Good for him.
I don’t mean to come as an ass or anything but the silver shoulder boards he has with the single gold diamond means Oberleutnant, so yeah your kind of correct if it’s just the silver by itself it’d be Lieutenant if it has two that’d make him a Hauptmann

it's because it sells way better that way. people love to see explosions. also the ending in this clip isn't realistic but it satisfies the viewers who felt bad for German squad. It's supposed to be a rollercoaster of emotions type movie and that's how they do it.
Yeah, bruh. It’s a fuckin’ movie. If you want realism, then how’s about you go fire a single .40 round with no ear protection. You will be essentially DEAF for about 30 minutes. Should a movie DEAFEN you too?
I love how the German soldiers are humanised unlike so many other movies where they are just mindless evil villains all the time. This movie treats them as who they really were - humans with real thoughts and feelings.
You people don't write nonsense. Those in the Wehrmacht were the same war criminals who murdered children, women and the elderly. The Germans murdered infants in their extermination camps. Today they are trying to make themselves victims of World War II, which is completely untrue.
Eh. Relatively. Grenades don't explode in massive fireballs, cars aren't bullet proof and don't make good cover at all, it's well done for a series, but still lots of cinematographic inconsistencies.

This shows how the war gets more and more brutal. In the firest episodes, we see the German soldiers risking their life to take prisoners when they were still in combat, now they just shoot the ones that try to surrender.
From what I've watched on this im assuming the guy that got hit by the rocket at the end was constantly suffering shell-shock but was looked after by his fellow men. His death threw thiwr leader into a suicidal fitness rage that made him run into enemy fire to avenge him. This move or series (im unsure) really knows how to pack a punch
WIlhelm was the brother of the guy who ran out at the end with the MP-40. The entire series follows the story of 5 teens. The brother joins the Wehrmacht when they start operation Barbarossa untill the chaotic retreat back to Germany, a jew gets deported, one girl becomes a military nurse on the eastern front and one girl stays in Berlin and becomes involved with a highranking Nazi member. They make a pact to be at the same place one year later but then the war grows and swallows them all in one way or another.
They don't commit acts of bravery for country or politics they do it for their friends. The fear of losing people you care about is more powerful than the fear of losing ones self...That is the universal humanity that stands out even in the most inhumane of all situations.
The German soldier was an incredible fighting machine, hence why it took almost a year after D day to defeat them, this does not include the waffen so in this scenario

Is this the battle of Stalingrad? I know it’s definitely in Russia, but to what battle it is I’m not quite sure. This is definitely an amazing highly detailed battle scene! Almost reminds me of enemy at the gates!
Steven Moore this is from a movie ... Generation War ... I don’t believe it is Stalingrad. The brothers fought in several battles after this one. That probably wasn’t in the cards for many Germans who were at Stalingrad.

@Deus Vult - I'm czech/german and very familiar with Germanic, slav, russian, europeon and asian culture. They had a choice, and they chose to fight for the nazis. The wehrmacht was also highly integrated with nazism, just as the ss, nazism was part of every soldiers life, it was intertwined. Germans joined the resistance, nazis joined the nazis. And don't say it's because they had to; it wasn't until after 1942, when it became apparent the nazis have lost the war, finally, only then did desertions skyrocket. Desertions in the wehrmacht in opposition of nazism happened early and were few, desertions were always possible and always a choice. For the many of the nazis that attempted executions on hitler, it was for attempting to preserve nazism, and not to go down Hitler's parh of all or nothing, the latter being an unconditional surrender which they were heading to. Anyone that was still in the wehrmacht by the start of the war, was very much likely to be aligned with nazism and its values of arbitrary extemination in order to colonize for an ultra nationalistic ethnostate. They all made a choice
@@parloitaliano2 Actually, they were fighting so that Germany can rule the world, but they fail and fight for a mad dictator. Those Soviet soldiers were fighting for their country.

But most casualties soviets suffered by poorly managing the life in trenches. Health care was not existing on any adequate level. No food supplies, could not start the fire in trenches without a risk to be killed. So, majority of soviet casualties were suffered from starvation and cold. That's why GULAG system was opened in 1942 and in 1943 anyone by directive from stavka, who served in Schutzmannschaften or in any other german capacity as a soviet citizen, could join red army without any reciprocation. But still even in 1944, more then 350 thousand red army solders defected to the German side.

What a great story! In the middle of something so brutal and cruel as war, he still was able to find love.

Steven Moore this is from a movie ... Generation War ... I don’t believe it is Stalingrad. The brothers fought in several battles after this one. That probably wasn’t in the cards for many Germans who were at Stalingrad.
Name film ?
It occurs during operation Citadelle. So it's definitely around Kursk
amir hamzah “Generation War.” A 2014 movie. Free if you have Amazon Prime
jonhni19 The town they are fighting in is Kurchatow, Russia. Identified in the movie. As you suggested, only 46 km from Kursk where “The (tank) Battle is taking place. July 7, 1943.
Million man armies facing each other battle after battle , never did humans ever fight such a brutal war. This was called total war, a war of destruction with no terms.
Still waiting for a ww2 era video to portray grenades accurately.
The grenade explosion scene is accurate
Os filhos da guerra, série maravilhosa 🇧🇷

The best moments is at last scene. Maybe it most stupid act but the most effective way!
In reality in reality, he will surely be dead after 3 meters
BRUH
Great mini series.
Series like this are important to for Westerners to watch because we see how the average German saw the war. All sides has individuals who committed barbaric acts but the vast majority just wanted to protect the man next to them and get home.
Britain and the US did not do the things that Germany did to civilians
@@0Shane13 that's because we weren't in the situation they were in. try to think from a different perspective.
@@0Shane13 Bs they did it in Japan and the soviets did it too the German soldiers Although not completely innocent were forced to carry out orders or they were killed and I'd you spoke out you were a traitor and would be killed

So well done. The soldiers even look exhausted. Must feel some kind of pride wearing that uniform. Bless all those German soldiers who lost their lives. Amy their blessed souls RIP
They were fighting for nazi germany.
Fuck em and fuck that uniform
They were fighting for nothing. All lives lost for a war that should not been happened.
Fuck those Nazi scum, let em burn, let it hurt.
@@parloitaliano2 Actually, they were fighting so that Germany can rule the world, but they fail and fight for a mad dictator. Those Soviet soldiers were fighting for their country.
In the game Trivial Pursuit there’s a question: ‘who holds the Tour de France record?’
Answer: the 7th Panzer Division

‘War Cry Charge’

film name Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter
Enlisted looking great
Dedicating this 🏅to all unknown heroes of WW2....
Who dont the highest Gallantary award they reserved from the nation they died for.
This should've been shown as a movie for the big screens, sure it's 4 and a half hours, just give it a three hour theatrical release or something.
Nice, but why Russians are using Panzerfaust?
+Bartosz Szulc да потому что захватили у вас дураков или купили
Beacuse they stole them from nazi idiot
Late ww2 russians had many panzerfausts stolen from germans
its not stolen, they are loots from dead bodies etc..

i had seen some german short regarding the war and my observation is that the movies always portray german soldiers fight very well when they are up against the soviets. on the other hand newbie (easily get killed) against the americans. lol
In the beginning of 1942 Stalin opened Gulag system and all inmates were enrolled in Penal military units or death squads.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shtrafbat Also behind the lines were stationed Barrier troops en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrier_troops Hitler had no chance with Stalin burning its people alive in the war.
Well you have to be idiot to believe American movies which always depict their forces as awesome. Soviets often outfought the Germans...other wise they would not have won the damn war.
@@Internetbutthurt I am a historian and who are you? Soviets utilized GULAG inmates in penalty units and also many different nations of the Soviet Union. Who were used as cannon fodder as well.
@@Историяпротивваты I sincerely hope you are not Russian. ruclips.net/video/bzsKnKcb1-A/видео.html ruclips.net/video/2qlnpdUYErk/видео.html
For starters.
@@Internetbutthurt You are not on the same level with me if you're watching this crap as educational pieces. Soviet Archives on the WWII are not opened yet. Barrier troops were a reality. Because soviets would draft ethnic nationalities who did not feel any allegiances to Stalin and suffered from him greatly. Like Ukrainians during holodomor. Those loses on the battle field and from defections, were filled by soviets, opening even more GULAG system and drafting now to the army ranks real criminals, rapists and such. Those convicts and maniacs in 1944-45 did a number on German women, raping most of them.
I love how the missiles they launch looks like grenades exploding and the grenades look like missiles exploding.

@@hankthehandkerchief523 This is world war II genius. *Grenade
I was a student in Wiesbaden, Germany for two years, from 1964 to 1966. I made friends with several German kids my age and even with some World War II veterans. They were, well, just like me. Ordinary folks who loved to sit at a table, drink great coffee and have great conversations. And laugh at silly jokes. A German girl my age taught me German and I taught her English. Soon we were gabbing and laughing and acting like anybody. I discovered they were as outraged by the war as we were. Nazi goons? No, not these kids. They were into The Beatles, pot, peace and long hair. German hippies, yes! It made both of us sad to think our fathers, only 20 years earlier, had been blasting away at each other. Well, that was over 50 years ago, but I fondly remember them. Helga, I still think of you...wherever you are.
I like the sgt he knows how to survive.
