For hundreds of years melody was the big thing in music...well, I guess those days are over. I do remember how nice it was to sing along with the performance...well, I guess those days are over. This is the musical equivalent of Mark Rothko's color fields--for some it is an epiphany, for others an expertly crafted vacuous experience. To each his own!

Not to fear. I love melodies too, and their days are not over. But I also love a lot of this 'atmospheric' stuff and particularly this Ocean piece. Check out Busoni's Nocturne Symphonique and see whether you like that better.
