If you think Bobby Ryan has been great for Sens, you don't watch the Sens. Guy earns 7 million and averages like 18 goals a season with Ottawa. He's been good in the playoffs but he has been very poor during regular season games
Ottawa would have a cup or two by now if management was allowed to actually pay their players. So many incredible players they've just let walk. Let's hope after this rebuild they're able to actually keep a talented core together long-term.
When the fans are in the building (ya i know very funny) the sens crowd is definitely one of the best for sure. It's just something about the goal horn combined with the passion.
The last Sens game I went to was against Florida, the CTC was filled with Toronto fans and a guy in a Toronto jerseys punched me in the face after screaming in my face that the senators suck and all I said was "who's winning" and got to eat a punch from a drunken idiot. Ottawa isn't even my first team ( in from Calgary) and I'm their biggest fan
Ownership* not management. Murray was a good GM, Dorion is a good GM but if you're being told that "no, you can't offer these players, that you've drafted and developed, a competitive contract based on their actual worth and you need to try to give them a home town discount contract or trade/let them go" then all you end up doing is drafting, developing, and ultimately disappointing while filling up the rest of your lineup with free-agent scraps.
@@davidharris6893 Nailed it. Chara, Hossa, Alfy, HASEK!, Zibanejad, Foligno, Heatley, Pageau, Bishop, Spezza, Karlsson... The list of future stars to move on to generally-greener pastures is insane!
Yeah? I think I'd have to go with Chris Neil, personally. Even though Karlsson is my favorite player skill-wise, I think Neil was arguably the most important leader in Sens history. His loyalty never once faltered, and he was amazing in off-the-ice teammate support. Like Bryan Murray as GM, Neil was someone who could be counted on to put the team ahead of himself in any given situation.
Being a fan since '92, I was so damn emotionally-invested in that run. I was at work during that game, solely in charge of running a poker tournament with over 100 players. With more than 60 players left once OT started, my boss called in a replacement, gave me the rest of the game as an unscheduled break, bought me a burger, and told me to enjoy. He later said it was because the look on my face as I passed TVs told him I "might as well be physically absent too". 😂 Nice gesture, but of course a devastating game result. Scoring first in G7 2OT woulda been the cup for the Sens, methinks... Sure felt like that game decided the cup winner.
This team was one of the most dominate teams of the early and mid 2000s who just don't have a cup to show for it. They could've easily won at least 2 in their window (03 and 07) but just always came up short or got beat by stronger teams. Although their 17 playoff run was unexpected, it's one of the most painful moments I've seen as a hockey fan coming that close just to fall apart the next year and end up in the basement.
