The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving. It is a spooky tale set in a small village called Sleepy Hollow in upstate New York, around the year 1790. The story follows the clumsy schoolteacher, Ichabod Crane, who competes with a local man, Brom Bones, for the affections of Katrina Van Tassel, the daughter of a wealthy farmer. One night, Ichabod encounters the Headless Horseman, a ghostly figure who is believed to be the ghost of a Hessian soldier decapitated by a cannon ball during the American Revolution. The story is narrated by a deceased man named Diedrich Knickerbocker, who found the tale among his papers.
