Wait. So the story of the headless horseman is a story of a guy getting pranked by a ghost story and running away in fear... I always figured the story at least pretended the HH was real.
I think it was meant to be ambiguous but Irving pretty much implies it was Bram. I wish it was a little more vague, like bram only followed ichabod for so long before the real horseman took over or something like that.
There’s a Hallmark film that goes along the lines of the book and it depicts Brom initially chasing Ichabod before getting knocked out. Then the real horseman shows up. It’s a good look at the story’s ambiguity in terms of depicting what really happened while everyone else is in the dark.

Katrina was surely not the only "blooming" girl in that town, but she was the girl to be courting when it came to status and money.
I remember that as a little kid, one of the first spooky things I watched was The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr Toad. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow has been incredibly important to me since. It was one of the major things that kick started my deep love of horror. So I'm incredibly grateful for this episode. Thank you.

Well, this was different. I can't say that I'm looking forward to any more Exploring the Washington Irving Bibliography, but the lovely autumnal pictures made this one visitation a worthwhile one.

Sort of shocked that needs to be explained, but yes. The modern definition of gay wouldn't come around until about 130 years after Washington Irving wrote this.
