Jenna you are onto something! I read the book and I keep wondering why no one has connected the dollhouse with ............??? Don't want to give anything away!
I absolutely loved this weeks episode as well!! I knew it....I guessed last week on the Munch/Syndrome. I am wondering as well if Amma is involved in any way too, I don't think she liked the other girls very much. As for Alan, I don't get him - for sure he is an enabler, but this child (Amma) is his as well and I don't understand how he can just sit there and do nothing. He's very bizarre.
I'm thinking that the shed in the woods is his. We see him last episode I think waking up and they show a bunch of porno mags. Hey, seemingly innocent since he's obviously not getting any physical affection - but then I'm still wondering how the shed links... It must be his right?
date a crazy chick and youll get your answer lol. I jest its simpler than that. He sees her broken and all. RIchard dosent and thats funny for a cop not to see it all .Remember John Keane told her he wanted to see her and it was ok... he knew what she was .
Alan is definitely involved! Did you notice on episode 4 when he grabbed the drinks for Adora and Sheriff and had a bite mark on his hand just like one John had!
Alan's bite was self-inflicted. BUT…I think Natalie's teeth being ripped out has something to do with her biting Adora while Adora tried to give her medicine. Biting is clearly a theme in the show.
Alan's character is very one dimensional in the story. We don't really know much about him in the book, but in this episode it almost seems like he wants to do something, but doesn't dare to. He definitely knows what's going on. But I think over the series we have been able to tell that he is keeping a lot in. I wonder if he will have a breakout moment where he will defy Adora. Probably not. I'm really excited for the finale. It looks like it's going to be a full explosion.
Yes - he sees Adora mixing the 'medicine' and he is then sent to listen to music. He hides in his earphones from what he knows is going on. It's almost like he is taking leaves with Amma in that scene. I was so relieved to see Amma was still alive in next episode - I was sure she would die. Dammit Alan - do something!
Totally agree that Alan is unlikely to defy Adora. If anything we'll probably learn something even more alarming the role he's played with her victims.
A lot of people don’t seem to understand how Alan just goes along with Adora and does nothing to stop her. I haven’t read the book, but will do soon. But, if you were brought up with a narcissist then you would understand narcissistic women or men choose very passive partners they can control and manipulate. Remember last weeks episode when Adora ordered Alan to tell Camille to go she did is in a very covert way by making him feel sorry for her. Alan is a weak man who is clearly manipulated by his wife. He said to Camille that her grandmother was cruel to Adora and he said “if you knew what she went through as a child then you would understand and have sympathy for her” (not those exact words) and he didn’t understand why Camille can’t see what he sees in Adora. Narcissists act different to different people, so with Camille when no one is around she tells her she never loved her, she tries to get her love interest to see her as damaged goods and in front of Alan she acts like the caring sweet mother. Narcissists are manipulators, they emotionally destroy their prey. Narcissistic mothers assign roles for their children, their children btw are there to cater to her needs, they were born to give her unconditional love and stay being babies that she can control. But Adora’s love is conditional love, she will be loving on the condition they do what she wants them to do, that her child remains her baby, takes her poisen and does not rebel or question her. Adora is tyrannical, she is not only in control of her family she has control over the town via the pig farm. Narcissistic mothers like Adora see themselves as the Queen bee, her husband and her children are there to worship her and obey her. Camille is the family scapegoat who has to bear all her family’s sickness, she internalised all Adora’s rejection and emotional abuse, Alan is the codependent enabling weak and passive husband, with no backbone, Amma is the golden child, but she is also the rebel child and she loves being the golden child / the princess but she knows that no matter how good she is and how much she obeys and Adora she can never compare to her dead sister and Amma resents that. Amma too is effected by Adora’s rejection but unlike Camille who internalised it to hate herself Amma internalises it to hate others and is outwardly quite aggressive unlike Camille who is inwardly aggressive. Amma is jealous of anyone getting Adora’s attention or love. She needs to be loved by her mother so she desperately dresses up to please her and act like a little innocent girl in order to make her narcissistic mother happy. She is conflicted though with not being able to be herself and having to put on a performance to please her mother. Which is why she said to Camille the best part of being sick is when her mother takes care of her in the morning because that’s the only time her mother seems to really love her, so she is aware her mother’s love is conditional and that there is a quid pro quo unspoken agreement - the child pretends to be sick in order to please her mother’s twisted maternal need to care for a sick infant and she makes her child more sick in order to keep on acting like the caring mother until she dies which will give Adora even more narcissistic supply by getting so much attention from the community for having a dead child. In Adora’s mind however she is probably that deluded and mentally disturbed that she thinks she is being a good mother. Her mentally disturbed mind is enabled by her husband who says to her about his daughter Amma “how bad is she” regarding her sickness and Adora replies with “really bad” knowing full well Amma is not sick as she told her mother she isnt sick just hung over. Narcissistic mothers get away with what they do by having enablers around them. Even the police chief enables her and covered up her crime against her own daughter who she killed. Adora is a covert bully she has a lot of power and people are scared of her. She managed to get the nurse who complained about her fired and even her best friend was silenced. Adora is manipulative. Camille is the most honest family member she rebelled and refused to go along with her mother’s orders, she refused to drink the poison, but in doing so was severely punished by her mother by being totally rejected and emotionally abused by being devalued and discarded by her mother. Constant subtle digs and nasty comments said to her when nobody else could see. Having her boundaries violated by her mother meant she had no boundaries at all and when those boys raped her she didn’t even see it as rape because she had no boundaries, she finds it hard to say no to people. She is really insecure and is unable to see herself as pretty when she is given a compliment she just brushes it to the side and quickly changes the subject because her mother taught her she was worthless. Narcissistic parents destroy the family scapegoat they make the scapegoat hate themselves and give them a sense of worthlessness. What Camille is suffering from is narcissistic emotional abuse. Severely insecure, hates herself and believes she is not worth anything and her body is not worth anything. When that boy read her marks and told her it was okay was probably the first time someone showed her acceptance and love regardless of how damaged she looked.
I think Alan and Jackie were complicit, suspecting Adora was hurting her daughters(doesn't make them any less guilty). I thought Marian was the girl he was dancing with then she changed into Amma. Thank you for quickly getting your reviews up.
i think alan is the wrong guy the sheriff i feel had something going on with adora those two feel closer then anyone wants to admit and alan felt it to.
Totally loved this episode. It was SO gut wrenching to see Willis walk in and find Camille in the motel with John. & even more so when he walks out to leave and Camille just loses it and breaks down thinking he hates her. I was really hoping they would be able to form a stable relationship, but once I saw how easily John’s gf was going to give into the chief for fame/recognition I knew something bad would result. Sure enough it did. Also the revelation that some of the towns people helped to cover and aid Adora’s little secret was a bombshell. I want to know just how much the chief was involved with Adora’s murdering of Marian. Overall an awesome episode, the scene with Camille calling her boss was brilliant
One of the most sinister elements of the show is just how many people have played a role in so much death. It wouldn't surprise me at all if we learn tonight that Amma, Adora, Alan & the chief all have blood on their hands.
Great episode, with so many twists and turns. Oh my goodness, I had almost the same reaction as you over seeing Adora's tray with the blue medicine bottle. Chilling!! Glad you are feeling better and cannot wait til next week's episode. If you've read the book, you already know the last twist -- cannot wait to see how they pull it off on the television show. **anxious excitement**
Sorry there was so much in this episode and I am still freaking out. John Keene won't have sex with his girlfriend??? What is up with that. It's obviously was not his first time when he did it with Camille. Also, I though the moment when John Keene rested his head on Camille and cried for her before they had sex was perfect and almost poetic.
i just dont think he was feeling the gf and stuck with her for a reason idk yes she handjobbed him but theres a reason he didnt wanna go all the way she seemed to have an agenda.
I have a little theory that more people know about this on some level than we realize.. Adora, Alan, Jackie, maybe Amma, and I’m also thinking the police chief is on it. I might’ve read that scene wrong but when looking at the medical files (although only briefly catching a glimpse) I believe it said the chief denied an autopsy and denied all these other files. As well as the scene when the girls roll by saying amma is sick, and he pulls over and repeats the word to himself. Either he’s curious and has some inclination as to what’s going on or he’s totally in on it. Best episode by far, totally agreed.
I think (my theory only) the chief wants to protect Adora because he was romantically involved with her at some point in time and he still probably feels something for her. In the previous episode/5, I don't remember exactly, Jackie spots Camille with Richard and says something like: "the Preaker girls like cops"; plus the chief's wife spots the chief looking at Adora and gets a little disturbed like she knew something about them and another small thing was when Adora welcomes them at her barbeque the chief takes his hand of his wife as Adore gets closer.
The way Vickery reacts when Willis mention the hospital files - no surprise - but rage - maybe he knows or are starting to realize the truth - and that this maybe can take him down as well
I wonder if the flash back to Adora caressing young Camille’s back is a suggestion that it was Adora who sliced up her back🤔 Very surprised that John didn’t ask about Camille’s back scars because he was caressing her back as well..🤔
Lucy Love Yeah that theory could work🤔. I think Camille must have repressed a lot of her childhood and it’s all coming back to her now in flashbacks and hallucinations...
Anyone have any thoughts on Adora having a munch on her baby and how that’s linked to Ashley’s ear, and even and Johns arm? Was she teaching both of the girls to bite or something, I’m puzzled about it.
I'm like you, I can't wait for next week's conclusion to the story!! Even though I have read the book, this mini series has been fantastic. Although there were some differences from the book but nothing that has taken away from the suspense of this show!! Thanks for your quick video recap!
I just got the book but I'm already on the last show before the episode so I don't know if the book will be interesting to read once I've already scene all the episodes?!
The book explains a lot of stuff about Camille & shows us how violent Amma is - towards Camille - she knocks her down and her head starts bleeding - on also causes her to sprain her ankle. She is stronger than we think. They changed that in the show ... But still works ! Creepy Amma ! Camille becomes the sick one...and Amma gets jealous
Yes, that's something they changed a lot in the series. In the book, Camille gave in and let her mum pamper her and make her sick, because she wanted to feel loved and cared for, for a while. Then she let detective check her blood for traces of poisoning. Maybe there just wasn't enough time to do everything in 8 episodes.
I don't remember the book having anything about the Calhoun Days celebration so I wonder why they did a whole episode on that?? Seems to me like there's SO MUCH they are going to have to squeeze into the one last episode.
What an episode!, thought Alans "complicity" sitting playing his music while his daughters are being poisoned by Amma is wickedly twisted. But how much damage did Camille endure "surviving" the family trait of enjoying seeing your daughters suffer?. Will we see her "father" revealed in the next episode, the "painted nails" found strangely on Natalie, made me think of Camille "caring for the Self Harm Girl". Some amazing acting, direction, photography and adaptation of the book, it is the best TV this year and deserves recognition.
I am loving watching this unfold and the reaction to it. I did read the book, but seeing it pulled off is really amazing. I wondered if stuff would be cut/changed for how twisted it was, and they haven't cut a thing. Good time for adaptions and TV all around. Loving your recaps.
So if Adora was giving the murdered girls attention Amma probably got jealous and I think the girl who bit could have clashed with Amma and Amma killed them. Adora is not overtly violent she’s covertly violent. Adora shows that she’s a narcissistic mother who sees her children as her property her objects that she OWNS. She has no respect for her adult daughter’s boundaries by undressing Camille who is extremely body shy and dressing her in something so revealing. Amma is being suffocated and i think being controlled and suffocated like that has effected both her daughters in such extreme ways
So John tells Camille during their post coital bliss that the scar on his arm is from his sister Natalie biting him. When Camille asks him why she would bite like an animal, he tells her she bit people all the time as a self defense mechanism. (Yeah that’s totally a normal thing ppl do?!?!) That could explain why her killer pulled all her teeth out, maybe?? Even though it made me sick seeing Camille’s flashback of her teenage self watching from the bannister as Adora bit baby Amma on her cheek causing her to cry, it makes me wonder if that scene has any link to the torturous teeth pulling or defensive biting surrounding Natalie. What I do know is that shit was hard to watch😬
My prediction is that Amma killed the first girl and Adora killed the second to cover for her daughter. I say this because of the references to the lady in white and the similarities to Adora. I remember the reference with Natalie’s disappearance. I can not recall that with Ann’s disappearance. I could be wrong. Even bigger twist what if it is Chief Vickery. He already seams to be conveniently covering up for a lot of things. Well maybe not I am more on board with Amma and Adora being the killers. We will see.
Adora at the beginning trying to be nice and caring for Camille is the creepiest shit. I'm also leaning towards Vickery being Camille's father. I'm also wondering if Adora carved the words in Camille's back. I agree with your interpretation of the Alan scene. He's always been very sympathetic of Adora and he defends her to Camille. I wonder if he'll try to stand up to her this time, because it's his own daughter. This episode was fabulous!
Great video and amazing episode! I got Texas Chainsaw vibes from the sneak peak of Amma, Adora and Allan all sitting at the dinner table with the turkey! Many people don't like the pacing but I love it. I think its a realistic look at how the mind is affected by past events and this show doesn't rush emotion. Can't wait till next week!
PeaceFan1 And based on Camille almost jackknifing off the bed... I’m thinking the writers are suggesting that John is packing 🍆some serious heat below the waist... 😳 🤭 also did anyone else notice the quick cutaway from the sex scene to Adora grinding something with a pestle and mortar...😂. This show is awesome... I’m expecting some heavy duty Emmy recognition...!
What an amazing episode. What great acting. All I am going to say is that the quick shot of Amma near the end with the crown of flowers was extremely frightening and disturbing.
To the carvings in her back: I read the crew gave Amy Adams a marker to write as far on her back as she could (with a mirror), to make it realastic. So she might just be very flexible. :) Great episode! Can't wait for the next one.
great review I wish it was not the end next week but it will be a recommend to all my friend to watch this awesome show will be my mission I loved its layers and you explain the story so well in this after show
Firstly, I watch your recaps every week, James. Sometimes before I even watch the episode. I also did the same when you reviewed Fargo and do the same with WestWorld and The Expanse... all very rich stories with a great chemistry in characters. I don't believe Adora killed all those girls, John didn't do it either. Adora explains Marion, and why Camille and Amma are so fucked up. She doesn't have the physical strength to pull teeth etc. I think the sheriff, he has access without anyone thinking it's weird. He's covered for Adora all this time because she has something on him. Elizabeth Perkins/Jackie nearly gives you all at the petrol station when a chance meeting occurs and she says something like, "Just pretend you didn't see it." and he confirms that he likes that answer. Sheriff is also the one to accuse John, but it's obvious John is not the one. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't plant the bicycle on Adora's pig farm to blame John. Just that scene when the sheriff drives past the two on roller skates gives me the creeps. There was also an ending scene a few back that had the sheriff jump into the police car and the next view you have his him behind the skating girls at night on a lonely bit of road. Like Jackie, Alan is weak, they both know the truth but don't know what to do with it or fear it will alter their lives in some way. Gillian Flynn is well known for final plot twists, just like she did with Gone Girl. So, I'm expecting something major for the finale! Can't wait for the ep or your review and I'm really going to miss this show when it ends. It's hands down the best short series on TV this year.
100% agree on this being the mini-series of the year. I can't remember the last time I was this excited to see a season finale. And you have my genuine sincere thanks for following my channel through so many shows. You rock!
What about Alan’s creepy living situation with sofa bed and vintage porn? Maybe he’s the man who is powerless looking to hurt Adora for her sleeping with Officer Vickery? Or he and Adora are doing mercy killings? He’s obsessed with bible( reading with magnifying glass) and obviously duplicitous af bc of porn and abetting Adora.
Angela Wyatt Camille had spoken to the Capisi boy earlier on. He is the last one to have seen the woman in white. The town discredited him though. The revelation of Adora cremating her daughter’s body made me sick.
Here's what I don't get. The MO for people who suffer from Munchausen by Proxy is complete co-dependence, not a secret desire to kill. In fact, murder is absolutely contrary to what typically motivates those with the affliction. I think there's more to the story.
Also, Adora is just like her mother Joya and Amma is the same as Adora. I think both Amma & Adora murdered those girls and that they are the only ones involved. They have a very unnatural and creepy mother daughter relationship
Did anyone else notice the word on the storefront changes?! This is at the part when Camille leaves Jackie’s house upset. She stops her car on the street to call her boss and there is a shot of the store in the background. Ironically the word is “Queasy” and then when she’s ending the call with her boss and pulls off, the word changes to “Engli..” (the rest of the word is covered by a tree) I wasn’t sure if this was a blooper or if there is any significance. Any thoughts?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Chief Vickory was the chief when Marian died, because then he would have known Camille and thier greeting in episode one would have been more familiar. Also, can we please talk about the the memory Camille suppressed watching her mother bite baby Marian so she would cry. Creepy as hell. Being able to convince yourself that you are giving your daughter medicine instead of poison is one thing, because in Adora's mind she is "helping." But outright biting your baby and making some comment about a sick child is another. Final thought, what if Chief Vickory is actually Amma's father??
I had to replay the episode to see the bite thing...super creepy! Also, one of the hospital documents did have some information on paternity, but I couldn't clearly see any conclusions on it.
I too couldn't believe she bit the babies face! How twisted. I think chief Vickory is Camille's father tho ,and that's why Jackie said in a previous episode" those Crellin girls and their love for law enforcement (or something like that). Cant wait for next week !!
I believe Amma and Marian are Crellin girls *Alan is their father*, and Camille's father is her mother's first husband and had a different last name Preacher.
8:35 i thought/felt the same. Lets see what happens! From that flashback that Alan had, i think he knows that Adora wants to "save" (kill) Amma so no one knows she killed the girls. That shot of Amma with the flower crown was hella creepy and someone mentioned that she didnt flinch when she went through the file of the dead bodies...... WHAT A SHOW! i might have to read the bookk
I've been waiting for the big reveal that will happen right near the end of the finale since I first read the book. It's not so much what is revealed (I wasn't surprised), it's the how you learn it. Make sure you paid attention to minor details revealed in earlier episodes that may have seemed like filler.
Just re watched the episode and the opening scene is so much more sinister second time around. Adora have been so cold towards Camille, but now she tries to sneak up her motherly-Munchausen by Proxy-love on Camille. Like a spider to a fly.
I think Alain knew as well but I wonder if its goings to be told why Alain and Jackie and possilbly camille father didn't do anything about it also im still unsure if Camilles father is alive dead, I feel like they clarified that in the show but I forgot
I was hoping that Alan remembering being with Amma as a child was going to spark some defiance of Adora. The other girls aren't his biological children, but Amma is, so maybe he will defend her?
also, the sheriff stops and reevalutes. and says Sick. and Allen realizes it too. they are both going to converge on adora. but still, there is the overlying murder theme. so they save amma. but the other children is what is chilling. the disease of adora has spread throughout the community. and they let it happen.
Great show. The one thing I can’t figure out is who pulled the teeth out of that young girl. I am wondering if Allan is the one who did that & his wife kept poisoning them that led to those girls death. If Amma killed those girls I don’t think she would have the strength to pull those teeth out. In my opinion there are two people involved in those girls deaths a male & a female. The lady in the white dress & her husband Allan.
I think Allen knows. I also think the maid knows but what the hell can they do about it? Momma owns the whole town and manipulates everyone. The sheriff would see to it that Adora goes free. Do you think Allen hinted for Camille to leave BECAUSE he doesn’t want Adora to drug her?
I wasn't surprised about the munchousin by proxy and Adora poisoning girls. However, I don't think she killed Ann and Natalie because it doesn't match her style at all. Adora is a killer, no doubt. But she kills slowly and enjoys the process... The mystery killer is the complete opposite... I can't wait till the finale!!! This is such superior television
Great Review! As usual. More had to happen this last episode. The first several were dragging their heels. Too many nuts in one small town. Twin Peaks had a huge mixture of personalities. I love this show. The next episode should be awesome. I want to see more of that dollhouse! Adora is severely fucking Amma up.
I've thought by ep 2 that Adora was the Lady in White. I could be wrong but Adora is obviously not all there in the head. She needs to be needed, and will do anything to feel that way. Camille's character is just a brilliant distraction I think.
It was such a creepy episode. Did you catch the flashback where Camille sees her mum bite Amma's cheek when she was a baby?? So creepy. There's something about teeth and biting in this episode that makes me think, Natalie who would often bite people was found with her teeth pulled out which means it would have been done by someone who knew her and who she had often bitten. I guess all will be revealed next week.
I had pretty much the same take. I posted this late last night (I was falling asleep so forgive all the run-on sentences please). I think Adora is the one that killed the girls, I don’t see what motive Amma has. Also Jackie confirmed that Marian died at Adora’s hands because of her Munchausens by Proxy (and then cremated to cover up the evidence) and that Camille made it much harder on Adora to do the same to her. I think Alan is complicit too since we see flashbacks of him and Amma (and either Marian or Amma when younger) dancing together along with Adora laying out special clothes for Marian after Adora packed away all the medicine as well as Adora holding and biting newborn Amma saying “God has given me another sick child”, almost as if it was a blessing then we immediately see the look of fear and disgust young Camille was giving her as she watched Adora say that. Adora doesn’t like (or love) Camille because she wouldn’t “lay back and take it” like Marian did (Jackie said something about that). I don’t think Adora telling Camille she’s never loved her has anything to do with who Camilles’ father is. John Keane made a comment about Anne and Natalie being killed because they “were the only two girls in Windgap with minds of their own” (much like Camille) and Natalie biting Adora a few times. Perhaps Natalie was biting her because she wasn’t “laying back and taking” Adoras’ ‘medicine’ in the blue bottle? The bites resulted in Natalies’ teeth being pulled which Alan could have done at Adora’s behest since he does anything and everything that Adora tells him to do. We also see Amma in a crown of flowers, looking very sickly, staring angrily at Marian’s urn as if she’s close to being in an urn right next to her. I find it odd that Adora is eager for Camille to leave, before they find out who the killer is (which Camille has since she called her editor and told him it was her mother). All signs are pointing to Adora.
I strongly believe it is Amma with the help of 1) her friends (who would do anything for her) or 2) her mother to help cover it up. The girls nails were painted and they weren’t raped which makes me believe it was a woman who killed them. Also everyone keeps saying it wasn’t a woman and it was a man who killed them, which is almost confirmation that it was a woman. I don’t think that it was Adora who did the killings though, if she was going to kill the girls it would most likely be in the way that (i believe) she killed Camille’s younger sister with poisoning.
What about that Sheriff?? Adora is capable of anything, but everyone is blaming Camille’s alcoholic friend...what about this guy? It’s his job!! Weirdly, he seems content to do whatever Adora wishes. Just toss anyone handy onto the gallows ! This is something that: Stephen King can envy!
Adora was weird from the beginning and i had suspicions already because the way she always stopped camille from investigating and she was always in contact with either of the girls family and how she always tried to make camille like she should be needing adora and not being happy by herslf
Agree Alan remorseful about what he knows is happening to his daughter. Whether he really knows or fears and doesn’t want to know .. that’s up in the air.
In the book it says she had written all over her body except for the one hard to get to spot on her back so they just did it for the show for aesthetic purposes
You mean that you'll have to crawl thru "Sharp Objects" ? LOL and I'm giving the benifit of the doubt to Alan, e maybe just believes everything Adora says, like he actually believes that her daughter is sick... or he knows...we'll see. Great review !
I thought the exact same thing about Alan knowing that Amma is about to be killed. I thought that maybe the boys that raped Camille had carved words in her back and the scars were still there.
What about the spiders? Where do they fit in? Re: teeth, some comment was made (maybe by John?) about pulling pig's teeth before killing them so they couldn't bite you, if that is applied to the dead girls, why would you pull their teeth after they were dead? I also think John's girlfriend is involved in some way - she's so desperate and controlling. Another thought, could the Chief be Amma's father? Maybe Allen is impotent or too repressed and Adora wanted another baby to hyper care for since Marion was gone (killed) and Camille was away and not compliant.... This show has me thinking in circles. One other thought (of many), could each girl have been killed by different people for different reasons?
Natalie bit people in self-defense. John, his g/f and Alan all have bites that we know of. She also stuck a pencil in someone's eye. She's seems psychotic. Camille has so many blocked out memories that Amma could be her daughter.
YO UTOPIA?!?! had no idea it was ressurected at Amazon after dying at HBO - this could be fking dooooope - good lookin out! original Utopia is my all time fav show just ahead of breaking bad and mr.robot
The mother did it with her husband since she hasn't gotten to hurt the daughter he let them hurt the other kids. Since they were bad seeds. Also who else could write on her back she can't do it herself
I actually couldn't finish watching the episode. Just because it pushed all of my injustice buttons. I fast forwarded through a lot of parts of this episode. No. The kid didn't kill those girls. It just reminded me of how the real world makes victims out of anybody different. And then to see the police cover up of Marian and the total moral nothingness of these people just was a real turn off. I just couldn't stomach it any more. You just wish the whole town would be wiped out. This show just really depressed me. I feel silly and "weak" for getting all worked up over a TV show. But it just reminded me that this world is filled with people just like those in that town. I suppose that may have been the reaction the writers wanted me to have. But It just hit *waaaay* too close to home for me. Oh well. Great review though. Sorry for not liking the episode more.
Did u notice the paternity docs in w Amma's medical records? Heyyyy-oooo....Vickery father Adora's children? Go back & slo mo thru the Amma medical docs, as Richard is looking at them....PATERNITY TEST....couldn't read results but WUT? WHY IS THERE A PATERNITY TEST? Adora clearly isn't sexually attracted to Alan. He's her mangina....Vickery for sure I feel is Amma's father. Not sure about Camille....seems Vickery would know he may be the father of a knocked up teen's baby if he buggered her way back then....or perhaps the time honored tradition of running a train on cheerleaders was around back then too, and he then as now, is too stupid to put it all together?? ...he's a TERRIBLE chief of police. Maybe that convo w Jackie, was him FINALLY thinking, hey wait....maybe I'm Camille's father? Yo Jackie...anything u want to tell me bout Camille? Nah..I like Camille. Better she not know a stupid old goat like u is her old man.....but, hey, when I tried to tell u Adora is killing off your bastard daughters, it's like you didn't speak English, or like in Westworld, ...all u could say....doesn't look like anything to me, Jackie, or Nurse also trying to tell me, so I got u fired and spread Adora's gossip about u instead....I hope Vickery has to resign in shame...or gets indicted for covering shit up. And I'd derive no small pleasure in watching Richard do it...in front of Camille. As for Richard & Camille...I don't think Richard is tall enough for that ride. He has feelings of empathy, but not quite deep enough, like John. Richard cannot understand the feelings Camille has dealt with. That comment about dudes crying, well that shows his emotional well is only so deep. John & Camille can't be a thing. They shared a moment. John didn't let ppl in, Camille couldn't...not fully. It was a needed moment for both of them...even if it was unnnncomfotable AF for everyone else. Richard was hurt but let's be real...no way does he possess the depth to have anything other than some pity, and a lot of distaste for Camille's condition. He didn't want to help the abused animals, he wanted to catch the abusers, so yeah...no way Richard is equipped for Camille. His pity helped him get to her abuser. In the end I feel like Camille will set a trap for Adora...maybe with Richard's help who by this time, already is remembering his ominous words about festering old crimes & secrets.... Btw, I think the blood under John's bed, will turn out to be pig blood. Vickery's assumption will once again prove how incompetent he is....bad eye witnesses, knows it, to get search warrant, to find anything, to hang this on....yeah he really should be charged criminally. Perhaps after John sues the shit outta Wind Gap, he will own the whole town? Lol...irony...
So how did you feel about Camille and John having sex and about Richard's response? Things are quite heated on both Reddit and Facebook. There are folks that are totally pro-Camille - you go girl type comments, and basically say Rick is a dick. Personally I think Camille having sex with John was creepy and unethical, but totally in character for her. What Richard said was harsh for sure, but he said it in anger. He was shocked and disappointed. I'm crossing my fingers that they can both make amends in the last episode, but I don't see them riding off into the sunset together.
The special effects folks had Amy Adams draw on her back, so that’s her handwriting and all the areas she could reach on herself. It’s genuine.
I think there's something up with that dollhouse because Amma refuses to let Camille look in her room in it. Just gave me a creepy vibe.
Jenna you are onto something! I read the book and I keep wondering why no one has connected the dollhouse with ............??? Don't want to give anything away!
fuck off.
Buffy Targaryan Alan needs to go to prison also
Absolutely.... It's so strange as a father to just do nothing.
I think Alan’s strange complicit behavior just shows how much power Adora has over him and the rest of the town.
I'm thinking that the shed in the woods is his. We see him last episode I think waking up and they show a bunch of porno mags. Hey, seemingly innocent since he's obviously not getting any physical affection - but then I'm still wondering how the shed links... It must be his right?
Maybe Amma is really the sheriffs daughter and Alan is just covering for Adora?
Amy Adams is the GOAT
She really is firing on all cylinders in this show.
If they will not give Emmys to Amy Adams and Jean-Marc Vallee for that show I'm gonna riot!
I agree but remember, they are not eligible for this year's Emmys due to the series release date. We'll have to wait until 2019.
Oh yes ! Next year it will be a clean sweep for all !!
Agreed.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock Amy Adams is amazing as Camille! And the Emmy goes to...
I Can't Believe she slept with John Keane!!!!!???? WTF?!! And that look on Richard's Face??!! WOW!!!! AMAZING Episode!! xoxoxo
PeaceFan1 LOL I was thinking the same thing
PeaceFan1. I loved it.. He is amazing as John Keane.
date a crazy chick and youll get your answer lol. I jest its simpler than that. He sees her broken and all. RIchard dosent and thats funny for a cop not to see it all .Remember John Keane told her he wanted to see her and it was ok... he knew what she was .
I had a feeling that would happen, I kept saying the whole time, "I hope he's of age!!!!"
He knew what she was before he dated her. Did he think she would just recover while still drinking herself to death.
Alan is definitely involved! Did you notice on episode 4 when he grabbed the drinks for Adora and Sheriff and had a bite mark on his hand just like one John had!
Melissa Payne yes!!
Melissa Payne h
I think he bite himself, before that seen we can see him going out of the house before the door and biting his own hand, ... I think.
i saw that that is suspicious
Alan's bite was self-inflicted. BUT…I think Natalie's teeth being ripped out has something to do with her biting Adora while Adora tried to give her medicine. Biting is clearly a theme in the show.
Your comment "Thank God I don't have Adora looking after me, really made me smile." Glad you're on the mend.
Thanks, Lucy!
The last song over the credits....!!!!!!!
THANE MITHRA I think he helped Adora pull out their teeth!
i wanna know why they dont sleep together are they not married?
A lot of reading.. but everything you wrote is the TRUTH👌
I think Alan and Jackie were complicit, suspecting Adora was hurting her daughters(doesn't make them any less guilty). I thought Marian was the girl he was dancing with then she changed into Amma. Thank you for quickly getting your reviews up.
I was so upset about Jackie, and didn't see that one coming!
i think alan is the wrong guy the sheriff i feel had something going on with adora those two feel closer then anyone wants to admit and alan felt it to.
Thanks, Jennifer! I'm always so excited after each ep, I enjoy diving right into my review.
I can't remember the last time I looked forward to a season finale with this much anticipation.
You'll find out why next episode.
Jessie Provost They each understand what the other is going through. I am glad they spent time together. They both needed tenderness & understanding.
What will we find out about John ?
If they don't explain why he doesn't have sex with his girlf next episode, then come back to me. I don't want to spoil anything. :)
i just dont think he was feeling the gf and stuck with her for a reason idk yes she handjobbed him but theres a reason he didnt wanna go all the way she seemed to have an agenda.
Miruna Exactly yeah I had the same idea, could take it even farther and say he might be involved in the murder but I mostly doubt that one
Miruna think he’s Camille’s dad
The way Vickery reacts when Willis mention the hospital files - no surprise - but rage - maybe he knows or are starting to realize the truth - and that this maybe can take him down as well
GamingInTheDark We should see soon if the Sherriff is in on it. Camille does have to handle it. Who else will.
Another clue for the case about the teeth being pulled is that at the pig farm they have machine that makes it easy to pull them out for a woman.
dux bellorum ahhh! Never thought of that and Amma is ALWAYS at the farm.
Good call!
I wonder if the flash back to Adora caressing young Camille’s back is a suggestion that it was Adora who sliced up her back🤔
Very surprised that John didn’t ask about Camille’s back scars because he was caressing her back as well..🤔
Ellen TopGun1 agreed
Ellen TopGun1. Camille wouldn't take the poison..The only way she survived was by taking Adora's cutting.
There has to be a connection. So much biting going on and I'm assuming it all goes back to her. Tonight's episode should be insane.
Read it. It's brilliant. It took me 2 days to get through it.
For my money, it is competition for show of the year.
With you there bro.
I am loving watching this unfold and the reaction to it. I did read the book, but seeing it pulled off is really amazing. I wondered if stuff would be cut/changed for how twisted it was, and they haven't cut a thing. Good time for adaptions and TV all around. Loving your recaps.
Thanks for watching! Glad you are enjoying my little rants.
Good call on the chief possibly being Camille's dad. I had not thought of that but it would make perfect sense.
HELLOOOO!!! WHY Didn't you mention Richard catching Camille in bed with John Keane??? That whole scene was AMAZING!!!
PeaceFan1 Yes it was!
PeaceFan1 And based on Camille almost jackknifing off the bed... I’m thinking the writers are suggesting that John is packing 🍆some serious heat below the waist... 😳 🤭
also did anyone else notice the quick cutaway from the sex scene to Adora grinding something with a pestle and mortar...😂.
This show is awesome... I’m expecting some heavy duty Emmy recognition...!
PeaceFan1. The actor that plays John Keane will be getting a lot of movie rolls.. He is amazing and 🔥
PeaceFan1 he did mention it ...
@@ellentopgun1329 lmao
I thought the same thing about Alan.
He might end up being the biggest sociopath of all of them if he's simply been turning a blind eye to everything going on around him.
I was literally shaking after this episode thinking if I was Camille who would believe me
It seems like so many are already keeping Adora's secrets for her, Camille will likely have to do do something on her own without outside help.
I love this show and I can't wait to read this book.i hope this turns out well
I need to sink my teeth into some of her novels as well.
Also, never read the book. Can’t wait til next week!
Same. But after tonight's episode I might need to start reading some of Flynn's novels.
What an amazing episode. What great acting. All I am going to say is that the quick shot of Amma near the end with the crown of flowers was extremely frightening and disturbing.
Agreed. Almost like she's about to participate in some ritualistic sacrifice.
To the carvings in her back: I read the crew gave Amy Adams a marker to write as far on her back as she could (with a mirror), to make it realastic. So she might just be very flexible. :) Great episode! Can't wait for the next one.
great review I wish it was not the end next week but it will be
a recommend to all my friend to watch this awesome show will be my mission I loved its layers and you explain the story so well in this after show
I'll definitely be pushing this show as well to anyone that hasn't seen it. Sleeper hit of the year.
Michelle Luxford . the sherif has those locking pliers...two pair, remember back in ep2 ...when he was fixing the stop sign . I
100% agree on this being the mini-series of the year.
Adora is the woman in white...
Omarious S. I screamed when they showed that. She'd lure weak and unwanted kids to make them sick and take care of them. That's some sick shit.
Angela Wyatt Camille had spoken to the Capisi boy earlier on. He is the last one to have seen the woman in white. The town discredited him though. The revelation of Adora cremating her daughter’s body made me sick.
Adora is rediculous
Omarious S. Idk
They have a very unnatural and creepy mother daughter relationship
i think they are all murderers apart from Camille .Her family is damned.
there maybe one or 2 others that knew about all of it
Did anyone else notice the word on the storefront changes?!
Great insight with the father having flashbacks. I think he was almost saying goodbye and struggling with stopping it or turning a blind eye.
I’m obsessed with this show, they left us hanging on this episode for sure. 😱😱
I also feel the Sheriff knows what's up. At the end the way he said "sick" clearly means he knows something is up.
Absolutely. The way he's always coming by to see Adora makes me feel he is somehow complicit as well.
Willis and Camille both think Adora did it. The police chief seems to be leaning towards Adora as well.
What happened to Gayla their maid? Didn’t she know about the blue bottle? Great episode with some holes, but Amy is brilliant guiding the story along!
This alongside Hereditary are my 2 picks for this year so far. Killin it on the warped motherhood themes...
I still need to see 'Hereditary'. I hear it is profound.
Ur completely right about everything, Alan, Amma & Adora, this finale is going to be absolutely insane...I can't wait to watch it! 😃
I'm definitely turning off my devices and locking my door before this evening's episode. No disturbances allowed.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock It's gonna be one hell of an episode, and I'm definitely gonna have a rollercoaster of emotions by the end! 😃
I'm not sure if the Chief is Amma's father but I suspect he has played a major role in protecting Adora for the last few years.
I'm definitely going to have to check out of Gillian Flynn's books as well.
That medication bottle much have been inspired by A Cure For Wellness!!
I've been waiting for the big reveal that will happen right near the end of the finale since I first read the book. It's not so much what is revealed (I wasn't surprised), it's the how you learn it. Make sure you paid attention to minor details revealed in earlier episodes that may have seemed like filler.
Will do!
Just re watched the episode and the opening scene is so much more sinister second time around. Adora have been so cold towards Camille, but now she tries to sneak up her motherly-Munchausen by Proxy-love on Camille. Like a spider to a fly.
Genuinely disturbing stuff.
Amma’s not looking to good. Adora is poisoning her and killed Marion for attention she got at the funeral. The nurses were wise to her.
Adora biting the baby 👶 she was holding had me yelling WTF at the tv screen!
I interpreted the Alan scene in the same fashion. I also think the chief is involved or that something clicked when the friends said she was “sick”
Marian was his daughter also
also, the sheriff stops and reevalutes. and says Sick. and Allen realizes it too. they are both going to converge on adora. but still, there is the overlying murder theme. so they save amma. but the other children is what is chilling. the disease of adora has spread throughout the community. and they let it happen.
The lady in the white dress & her husband Allan.
ding !ding!ding! we shall see..
Donnie Blair the Dads a pussy, no way .
I have a feeling Camille is going to be truly terrified by just how many people she knows who were involved.
Is this show a one season thing? Or will we see more?
One season. 8th episode is the final episode
Sadly it is only a mini-series and then done due to it being based on a standalone book.
The book is slightly different. I won’t be a spoiler. I wonder if the last episode will be completely different than the book ending?
I've heard one of the major differences was adding Calhoun Day to the show.
how could that many people overlook things - the police chief, the father of Amma, and Jackie? all of them together,
a brilliant episode. it follows the book so well. a real cliff hanger. you are spot on with that sick mother!!!
I'm wondering if Adora had something to do with the poisoning of Camille's friend in the hospital?
No matter what happens this evening, I can safely say this is one of my favorite shows of the year.
Some think the chief could be Camille's dad. At a bare minimum I think he's been covering things up on behalf of Adora.
I don't think it would be that difficult to carve block print into your back. I can reach. And it's not like it's cursive.
I should have used that play on words but sadly my wit failed me.
I thought the exact same thing about Alan knowing that Amma is about to be killed. I thought that maybe the boys that raped Camille had carved words in her back and the scars were still there.
did anyone see how amma looked at camille pics of the dead girls documents she looked disgusted
Who pulled out the teeth of the victims(which requires muscle) and why?
Alan? Or the Sheriff? (I'd bet money on Alan)
Holy shot holy shit holy shit
lol, exactly
@@geekinwithJamesHancock I cannot WAIT for series finale tonight!! Also sad it's gone so fast
Had a feeling the mom killed her daughter. But Idk if she killed the other girls.Maybe the step dad.
Author's name is Gillian, not Jillian
Hard g as in gill, got it, much obliged for the correction!
No problemo! I love your reviews!
I was a bit disappointed about the realization that adora was poisoning her kids. It was way too similar to one of sixth senses reveals.
When adora BIT little baby amma's (i think) face !!! Diabolical!
Natalie bit people in self-defense. John, his g/f and Alan all have bites that we know of. She also stuck a pencil in someone's eye. She's seems psychotic. Camille has so many blocked out memories that Amma could be her daughter.
Was I the only one that hoped Camille wasn’t gonna catch a statutory
oh you make sense
Adora definitely carved those words on her. I'd bet my life on it.
YO UTOPIA?!?! had no idea it was ressurected at Amazon after dying at HBO - this could be fking dooooope - good lookin out! original Utopia is my all time fav show just ahead of breaking bad and mr.robot
You're right he knows, he was saying goodbye, sick bastard lol
The mother did it with her husband since she hasn't gotten to hurt the daughter he let them hurt the other kids. Since they were bad seeds. Also who else could write on her back she can't do it herself
Alan knows what's going on ofc
the creep on sharp objects is totally orgasmic
i can't wait for the next week...
I think Camille is Amma’s real mother
DocKobryn it's a fake book/tv show . Don't watch tv.
This shows better than CLUE!!;
