    in the first episode, when Camille meets Amma and her friends for the first time, Amma says "this town is dead" while she looks at her friends and repeats "dead", and they all giggle.
    Amma and her friends hinted the murders so many times and we were so fooled by her!
    the show is brilliant!

      The director uses this technique a lot. If you watch “Wild” he uses a Simon and Garfunkel song in a similar fashion and make such a HUGE impact when it finally plays.

    I was wholly into it as well :
    When that doorbell rang, I wanted Camille to: Punch Out the Window.
    I was seriously disturbed that Camille might DIE to save Amma.
    I just loved the tooth floor, and of course Adora’s floor made out of Elephant’s teeth! ( Tusks/Ivory)

      karen mccabe The maid is portrayed much differently in the book. She wouldn’t have been smart enough to pick up on anything. Adora had no clue about Amma. She was too sick with attention seeking that killing her kids was an obsession for her. Reading the book answers all the questions you are left with after that incomplete ending.

    Don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but a slight detail I picked up on is that the blanket for the doll house bed looks as though it was made by Mae. She shows it to Camille, who looks happy with the addition to the home, which of course would infuriate Amma. It changed her perfect doll house, and Camille seemed proud of Mae for her creation, making Amma extremely jealous. That's why Amma would have thrown it in the garbage later on, and who knows, maybe that was the final straw that got her to kill Mae, just as Ann and Natalie were killed because they had taken too much of Adora's attention.

    I completely agree with you! This was probably the best show on TV this year, better than Westworld (this year anyway) and since no Game of Thrones, not much to compete with there. That being said Big Little Lies was great too, I think we will see another season of this soon. While I really thought the mom was the killer of all the girls, it totally makes sense that Amma killed the girls. She is exactly like her mother in a more complex way. If anyone takes attention away from herself, she views them as a threat and kills them. She does this so she is always the most important to whatever 'mother' figure she latches on to. Camille will be surrounded by death if she doesn't turn Amma in.

      I think there is quite a bit of competition. The Americans was very strong in its final season. There is also Handmaid’s Tale and a few strong limited series. Killing Eve was also fantastic. That doesn’t take into account comedies. GoT hasn’t been the best show on tv for a while now for me. In my opinion that last season in particular was atrocious.
      Nonetheless, Sharp Objects may def end up getting my vote for best of the year in the end. I need to think on it for a bit. I’ve been catching up on shows I didn’t get a chance to watch when on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon, so I’m not clear in my head what is from last year and what was released in 2018.

Both times he made the big reveal through flashbacks without any further explanation right at the end of the show. Another attractive girl - not Mae - with a rope around her neck, 2 or 3 people in white suits helping to restrain.
    (throwback ten minutes to joking around with Mae - her new friend - about strangling someone with a rope)
    #3
    More restraining white-sleeved hands, in a forest setting, with a grabbing hand on the elbow of the girl being killed, who could be someone who was in the hospital with Amma.
    #4
    Same; but seeing rage on Amma’s face, and distress on a fellow assailant in a lab coat.
    #5
    Shadowy shot of struggle
    #6
    Another shot of the struggle in the forest, at least 3 girls
    #7
    A shot which appears to portray a struggling (previously murdered) Natalie Keene
    #8
    Indistinct shadowy shot
    #9
    We see a struggling soon to be dead girl who appears to be surrounded by more white lab coats.
    #10
    New dead girl, this time in a shot originating from under a bed
    #11
    Rage on the face of Amma, evidently getting what she came for; girl in white lab coat adjacent
    #12
    Collapsing shot of newly-murdered girl, evidently in her bedroom, perhaps where she will be found (although there would be a heap of forensic evidence to account for, presuming we just saw she was done in in a forest setting; Marti Noxon, we are watching)
    #13
    NOW we see a shot of Mae, at it looks like she is reacting to the murder, with an onlooker, perhaps Amma
    #14
    We see a the same hand as in the first shot of the sequence, at last letting go of the chain link fence
    Jed Gould
    #15
    Amma, through a different metal fence, joyous rage on her face

    I really didn’t like the ending. I understood the ending but had to look up the books ending after it ended for clarity. If you haven’t, you should read the books ending it is much better. The pacing felt very off throughout the episode. There were scenes unneeded (ex: Alan and the sheriff) and then scenes that were very drawn out (the dinner table). Then the ending and other scenes were just way to rushed (last scene, friend being missing/killed, and adoras arrest/Marian’s cause of death revealedh. I wish that they followed the ending a little more. Ammas new friend is found dead (killed a similar way) and THEN Camille find the teeth In the dollhouse and a rug made of the new friends hair. I just was.. disappointed. I thought that the finale could’ve been an hour and half instead of just 50 minutes, I think it really could’ve helped this ending. I’ve even looked up what some people are saying on twitter and almost everything I’ve read is people who haven’t read the ending being confused about the killings/disappointed at how rushed the ending was.

      Monte Crisco I agree! The first half was very slow and then the second half of the episode was so rushed! But I could say the same about the series as a whole. The first few episodes of the series were pretty slow with not that much happening and then the last few had so much in them and not enough time to unpack anything

    • @xiocomaraebanks8816
      @xiocomaraebanks8816 6 лет назад +4

      I agree. There were so many questions that needed answering and this finale didn't di it for me. The pace started out like previous episodes, but it almost seems like a part got cut out when Adura was to return with more medicine and instead Curry and Richard rush in. I felt disappointed after waiting fir the finale. It just felt disconnected ant there are still many unanswered questions.

    • @mikeappleget482
      @mikeappleget482 6 лет назад +17

      The scene with the Sheriff basically let us know that the Sheriff was on to Adora’s fetish of making her daughters sick. That may be (one of the reasons) why he’s always coming over, to keep an eye on the Camille & Amma. The sheriff’s like “how’s Amma” and Adora’s husband is like “she good” and the sheriffs says “I saw her friends roller skating and they said Amma’s **”Sick”**....” and puts a lot of emphasis on the word “sick” like he knows it’s Adora’s fetish. And the “bad pacing” has its purpose. The “slow & unneeded” parts are loaded with meaningful information and it really puts you into the characters’ minds and makes you relate to them more. This show wasn’t so much about “the action” as it was about the psychology of the characters. So then when the action does happen it seems to “strike to the bone marrow”. Just little things like Adora quickly & forcefully shaking the bottle in a stabbing motion to get out that last drop of poison onto the spoon & making that snarled face.
      If the “boring scenes” were rushed I really don’t think those little moments like that would’ve gave my whole body goose bumps.

  • @TheShanshuprophecy
    @TheShanshuprophecy 6 лет назад +1

    Great energy & love your enthusiasm - I disagree with your point about Adora’s enthusiasm Re Camille’s feigned illness to save Amma: to me, that isn’t a simple/regular kicking in of her MBP .. it’s far more than that - it’s Adora finally triumphing over Camille .. the following scene/s of Adora ‘caring for’ Camille is like watching a predator devour a whole beast in just one sitting .. there was never going to be a long game here, Camille was akin to a guzzled meal that Adora thought she would never have ..

  • @531katie
    @531katie 6 лет назад

    Yes enjoy your review after seeing a few that asked questions I thought were obvious and not ask ones that I’m still asking. In the flashbacks it looks like Camille is dying and her sister is in better shape. But she ends up getting away. Do we ever know how and why ... we know she mutilates her own body to punish herself for surviving but what got her up and out and is that why her sister dies ..because Adora moves into her in full force having lost Camille ? I guess that’s possibly obvious too. What I loved about this series was its authenticity that made dialogues unexpected because they didn’t revert back to Hollywood junk. They stayed subtle too. The look Camille gives Amma when she says ‘I could eat you up’. To me that’s brilliant acting. It was precisely the speed and tone that a comment seemingly affectionate could feel just wrong and perfectly reflected on Camille’s face. Whoa. That’s when I knew sister is as evil as she is a opportunistic phony. The fluctuation between the little tart on roller blades and the soft voice playing with her dollhouse but sadistic ! Remember she’s the one who stole Camille’s clothes in the bathroom forcing the revelation of her self destructive cutting .... that character was evil incarnate

    Thankyou James for your amazing reactions & comments on TV and Movies ! Question for anybody.... How would you have made this final episode
    better ? If you were the writers and producers, what would have “ punched up “ the script? My changes would have been as follows:
    When Camille is getting “dosed” in tub, I would have added a few more lines with Adora denying the accusations of killing Marian. The part with the blue lights of the police cars reflecting on the ceiling,....
    Alan has music blasting in the background, we hear a painful “needle scraping” across the album ... then music stopped! Cut to the cops cuffing Adora and Alan with him squirming away from cops and his cute “sweater cape” falls to the ground. Lastly, we were slighted by not getting a powerful dialogue between Amma & Adora in jail . The video shown was cool , but why not have written 2 more minutes of that powerful moment? Fell short with that moment in my opinion!
    Anyone have some other ideas ?

      something i wanted to happen when Camille decided to let Adora "take care" of her, is that they show Camille doing it to save Amma, but also to feel loved by her mother for the first time, even though she knew Adora was poisoning her, she would willingly let her do it just to feel loved and cared by her.
      i really wanted to see that happen, it would have been so emotional, seeing Camille let her mother posion her just to feel loved (in a twisted way) by her for the first time

    First off I would like to say James I've subscribed to your videos and I really love how you get into detail about things in the way you talk about the shows outstanding job!!
    The show is incredible I love the actors but I from the jump knew something was up with the mother Adora and Amma!
    I realized Adora was doing something shady and covering up things and just so grimey and beneath the surface I can't stand her and the way she treats Camille. But Amma I never trusted can't stand her always thought she was killing and doing something or help the killer but I knew she had something to do with those murders and she always had a f*****-up comment to say about whoever.
    What really made everything that I thought be true was when Camille was talking with the guy that everybody was accusing of being the murderer when his sister died and they were accusing him of killing his sister and whoever else I knew that Amma had something to do with it.. because he said that she would get in the middle of the girls arguing and she was always a part of their BS and throughout all those episodes nobody never said anything Emma never said anything about knowing those girls or hanging out with them or getting in arguments so for Camille to have John tell her that that set off so many questions and fireworks and everything.
    From the jump I was only looking at Emma and Adora as killers there was no one else that gave me the sense or the feeling that they would be.
    Everything everything that she said all those stupid smart ass rude snarky weird comments that Emma would always have four things let me know that she was definitely the Killer also the end credits when she was killing the black girl Mae and the mom was looking for her..
    there were just way too many red flags and things that did not sit well with me with Emma

    I believe the the episode being titled "Milk" had two reason. First, and this is just a theory, when Camille drank the milk at the dinner table, it genuinely made her sick. Secondly, when Camille finishes her milk and throws the carton away, she noticed the dollhouse blanket had been thrown away which intern, led her to find the teeth. Just a theory.

    Some people watching Sharp Objects were old enough to remember "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" and although it doesn't rise to that level Sharp Objects ran in that vein. It moved really slow but then again small towns are like that. Amy Adams is a pleasure to watch and is quite talented. Would anyone else like to put Henry Czerny in a headlock? He just irritated me especially when he yelled at Camille to "SITDOWN" like he was God instead of her stepfather.

    I like you dude. I love your enthusiasm for this show and I can imagine you shadow boxing in your home watching SO. 😂 This show was superb especially as you mentioned the camera work and directing. The acting was good but I’m not a huge fan of Amy Adams, I’ve always found her a bit overrated but she was good here. The stand outs for me were the girl who played Amma, Patrica Clarkson and especially Elizabeth Perkins who was phenomenal and stole the show acting wise. I just wish that they stretched it out to a few more episodes, maybe explaining why she did what she did and seeing the consequences. Also there are a few things you mentioned that I didn’t notice like the writing on the black girls hand. Also did you notice how the black girl had the same color nail polish (painted on I’m assuming by Amma) as Natalie did when they found her body. Also did you notice that the opening of each show had a different song up until the ending where they played the same song as the first episode? Like coming full circle ⭕️!

    You missed something after Camille found the little blanket for the bed that she got out the dollhouse she sat on the bed that's when she noticed the doll sitting in the window seal like Ann Nash was found at that moment Camille knew and decided to look through the windows in the house and discovered the tooth under Amma bed inside the dollhouse. All the evidence lead to Amma but I thought it wasn't possible for her to pull those teeth out.

      ny_kia31 - Asking "why" isn't going to get you anywhere except into the sickness of Amma. "What's going on here" is an old story of a small local culture gone dark. Everyone is complicit, not through any single act (except Amma & "momma" - just noticed they rhyme) but through small contributions, even just turning a blind eye, that add up to a large evil.

      She was obsessed with control and attention, especially when it comes to her mom. The girls were close to her mom and Amma saw them as a threat . She's also beautiful and tends to make people do what she wants...which is why the girls helped her, they didn't want to be next . Did anyone see Ashley(johns gf) in the ending credits? I personally enjoy that the ending didn’t end up resolved. I liked that I am left wondering if Camille would turn her sister in or would she remain silent. How safe would Camille feel with Amma living under the same roof as her, how much did Adora and Alan know about Amma and her friends. I’ve heard about the book ending where things are resolved ( kinda) and I think that’s anticlimactic. The good guys don’t always win, every crime isn’t solved, etc. I wish the series hadn’t spent as much time with Camille’s drinking, flashbacks and inability to assert herself ( I mean, she was allowing her mom to poison her to death!) but I guess she’s an imperfect hero? The acting was superb from everyone.

    but i'm still wondering about who killed thoses little girls, i mean yes Adorra killed her girl but i think these two killings are Amma's (after watching the clips at the end) and that Adorra is wrongly accused
    anyone ?!

    Stellar critique. I'm surprised ppl. have some affection for Amma. I find her to be the most vile, contemptuous figure I've seen in decades. Y'know typical youngest sister. 😏
