The movie is filled with famous British actors of the era. For example, the guy who walks in on Elllen’s bath is Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid).
Of the era? They were famous in the 60s, 70s, 80s and some into the 90s. Spanned generations and bridged eras

Mel Smith is the insanitary 'hotel' owner (6:24), Robbie Coltrane the guest in the bathroom (7:23), Maureen Lipman is the guest in the bedroom (8:08), Ballard Berkeley (probably best known to Americans as the Major in Fawlty Towers) the other driver in the road accident (9:22) and Eric Idle the cyclist (9:58).
I think this was the first movie I saw as a kid where there was straight up frontal nudity. It quickly became my most watched VHS tape LOL.

omg when I used to watch this movie as a kid the kissing part never even registered with me, its hilarious because the host of Family Feud actually used to kiss each female contestant on the lips!
Yeah, the host's name was Richard Dawson. He was always practically making out with the female contestants.

First Selfie Fact: When Clark (Chevy Chase) has a spat with the rest of the family and is seeing the sights alone, he takes a selfie, making this the first movie to show someone taking a selfie. Contrary to popular belief, it is not Thelma & Louise (1991).
Different Children Fact: Because Anthony Michael Hall declined to reprise his role as Rusty (he decided to make Weird Science (1985) instead), the producers decided to re-cast both children. Thus, Dana Barron was not asked to reprise her role as Audrey as well.
Monty Python Vacation Fact: Eric Idle and Chevy Chase became friends after filming. Shortly after the release of this movie, Idle and Chase began work on a screenplay for a follow-up called National Lampoon's Australian Vacation. Aside from a few shark-related gags, neither could come up with much and the project was abandoned.
Wasn’t the actor for rusty Anthony Michael Hall in the breakfast club as well in 1985 that was another reason he couldn’t come back.

LOL that German dinner scene has stuck with me for decades. I've been to some pretty fancy German restaurants, but never have I been served a meal that looked as good as the one shown here.
European is actually my favorite with Christmas in second.

Dana Hill, who played Audrey in this movie, died very early in her life. I'm thinking it was from diabetes but I'm probably wrong. Someone let me know. I'm too lazy to google it. But I had seen her in a few movies back in the 80's when she was younger. Then this movie came out and she just killed it! She was so funny in this! RIP Dana!

Of all the vacation movies I think this my least favorite. Please watch them all bc they really are funny. Vegas and Christmas were my favorites ❤

Hahah I really love this movie! Though yeah its wild that the kids keep changing every movie. Rusty looks like the older brother now but in past movies he was the younger brother.

Yes. In the 80s we had colored toilet paper. I believe they stopped because the dyes were bad for the water supply.
