I know this video is two years old, but the nerd in me still had to make this point. There is another big reason why denim was made blue and is still blue today. Indigo was a common dye being grown in the original American colonies, and during the Revolution, Continental Army uniforms were dyed blue because of its accessibility. The blue colonial blue coat in contrast to the British Royal Redcoats came to represent America early on. This is why United States uniforms were blue from then on into the War of 1812, through to the Civil War Union wool uniforms, and into the 1890s. Blue was highly associated with the American spirit and lasted into the era when blue jeans became a staple of Americana fashion.
the timing of "nope, it's blue" was absolutely perfect. I probably watched just that intro five times and laughed every time... that got me good. Fantastic video
fun fact: in the Vietnam War, denim was used by SEALS because it protected the wearer from bug bites and its dark color was good for camo in shaded rainforest
Very informative and well produced video, indigo is simply the perfect dye for twill denim. The fades are amazing, its hardy and uv resistant and it simply looks BADASS! I have a pair of black sulfur dyed selvedges but I wear my indigos much more. Keep it up michael you are gonna be a big youtuber one day!!!!
I don't even know how to put into words how GREAT your channel and content is. Every single video you do is so interesting and gets me in such great mood after rough days! Thank you for these and much much love from Madrid!!
Congrats on the Huckberry sponsorship...even if I want to say Huckleberry (Val Kilmer Tombstone clip) in my head. The minutia of this is very entertaining. Especially if somehow everything you described was true but the color was orange? 150 years of people walking around with orange jeans would be wild.. I'll throw my vote into the nonexistent poll and say green would be a good choice if the whole indigo thing didn't work out. Finally, watching Risa and Bahzad wave in the vid was soothing somehow.
I might be bias since I’m from the same country as this brand, but I recommend "Nudie Jeans", a Swedish company who makes great jeans/denim and are not that expensive. They have a store in NYC I think. I own several pairs and I love them. I think the whole brand-profile and aestethic suits your style. Would love to hear what you think. Plus - free repairs for life! I´m not sponsored btw (wish I was).
I was literally wondering this yesterday, like did we think indigo/blue for denim just works after trying every other color? Or did it just happen and we went, "yeah, that's perfect". Love the vid, keep up the awesome work!
I want a pair of Japanese denim jeans. Apparently they're slightly less comfortable, but last significantly longer. Also cost like 300. Edit: japanese selvedge denim.
Ok, but what is the reason my jeans are still always breaking in the crotch. I don't want to face up to the fact that it's because I am 5"11' and far past 140lbs, riddle me that!
Came here for an informative video, got this instead. Had to sit through too much cringey fluff to get some basic facts that could have taken less than half the time.
RUclipsrs need to learn from this man. No unnecessary intro, no fake sponsor, no lame puns, straight to the point.
hey ty!
Agree 100% michaels videos are art while being very informative. I can see him making a career out of this!
Subs need more of him. From start to finish he delivers.
No it’s not, it doesn’t get to the point

Awesome, that gives me whole new perspective on my first fades that develop right now! ✌
so glad!
So fascinating. Should be offered as a college course.
wow appreciate it!
Found this channel last week through your docs video, and now a N&F interview? Subbed.
TY!

I love Nudie jeans!! Just haven't grabbed a pair yet!
I love my Grim Tim Raw Selvedges. 13.75oz and fade spectacularly. The price is high but imo its worth it. The details are immaculate
Omg 😂😂😂 you're f***ing awesome brother 🙌🙌🙌
hahaha ty!
Congratulations on the sponsorship
TY!
dudeeeeeee a sponsored video hell yeah. nice opening btw always fun to watch your vids.
AYY TY!
Great content ! but nowadays most denim is made using synthetic dyeing, if it's natural indigo is quite expensive like some Japanese jeans.
Great editing
ty!!!

Love the vid, keep up the awesome work!
ty so much!
Why did it take so long for black denim jeans to be made? Not much info on black denim before the 1980s.
I'm assuming sulfur dye was too expensive for what jeans used to be! (pure work pants)
Also indigo dye is fire resistant so old Japanese firefighters would wear blue fire resistance suits to rescue people from forest fires.
isnt the indigo used in almost 99% of jeans is synthetic?? the yield of natural indigo is very very low..
it is now! Used to not be though
Great video again. I especially liked the intro!! Just curious, how many hoodies do you have to sell to get a Lamborghini?
About 80 million!
New aspect ratio huh? Looks great on my phone
messing around with it!
@@TheIronSnail I approve 👍 and demand feedback on your jackets
What I took away from this video: Shout out Glow Worms!
SHOUT OUT GLOW WORMS!!
I want a pair of Japanese denim jeans. Apparently they're slightly less comfortable, but last significantly longer. Also cost like 300.
Edit: japanese selvedge denim.
Over time they’ll get more and more comfortable until they just feel like regular jeans!
This intro👌
TY!
Congrats on the sponsorship. Also, this was a cool video. Just curious, though, what jeans are you wearing in this video?
Levi LVC 505's!
Great video! What jeans are you wearing? Color is great as is fit.
Levi 505 LVC’s!
I can't believe I watched a whole video about blue jeans in one sitting. I don't even own any jeans.
you gotta get jeans!!
Also, it's blue because if it were green it would die... *I say, wearing OD Matcha denim*
OOF big pair!
Yeah sorry but ppl back then didn't think this too deeply about it. They were just pants to them 🤣
bahahaha (true)
My bro kinda looks like Drake bell from Drake and Josh
Do your guys ship to Mexico?
I believe so!
Funny I was asking myself the same thing
Why are jeans blue ?
its a question we must know!
Wouldn’t it be cool to make jeans with the inside on the out side? Or is that stupid? Or is that already a thing?
levis has done it a few times!
Have you ever thought of reviewing grease point workwear?
ooooooooh yes!
Sometimes you just have to wear Birkenstocks.
Ok, but what is the reason my jeans are still always breaking in the crotch. I don't want to face up to the fact that it's because I am 5"11' and far past 140lbs, riddle me that!
Also cool vid and congrats on the sponsorship, obviously.
bahaha try flat felled inner seams if you haven't!
they repel insects with a tight weave
Are you big time now?
oooooooo YES! (technically no)
5’8 huh wubby7
I don't fully understand this comment but I deeply appreciate it
