I just wanted to say that I appreciate the overall positivity from folks. This was an enjoyable project to work on, but it makes it even better when you realize people are enjoying watching it. Thanks again for checking it out!
This is a well produced and directed!! I am sure a lot of people would love to see you cover more Lost Tracks in not only Georgia but other states as well!
I spent many sat. Nights there as a kid. We used to ride on back of the wreckers to go get the cars after they wrecked. Hate its gone, was my favorite place to be unless pop was racing in jefferson.
I saw the first race on that track. I was just a young'n but loved racing at such an early age. My parents took me to it and it was on a sunday afternoon. It still is the best dirt track I have ever been to. Had lots of friends that raced there. Rudy Boroughs was a good friend of mine and he drove the 007 car and won a bunch of races. Sure do miss that place. When that track was build it was 5 miles outside of Athens and NOTHING was out that way. Now it seems like Athens city never ends. That Jennings Mill country and sub division is what took it out of business.
Wow, moved here in 94 and went to check it out and found it like that . Cool that it’s still there ! Great idea to turn it in to a park like Asheville !
Funny story my dad was the last foot race winner at Athens Speedway and my grandpa raced there and at Hartwell Speedway and at Winder Barrow Speedway which I would have loved to been at Athens Speedway whenever it was up and running
Neat story. I love this kind of history. I raced motocross around the Southeast in the 1980s and would love to see a show like this based around some of those tracks. 💙
The outline of the track and the stands are still there, can we not make a park out of it? I walked it a few years ago ,oh man the memories, the scale pit is there too. Pick ups, open trailers and ramp trucks, very busy pit area, long pit entry lines, packed stands,"the dust bowl" was my first racetrack/ favorite. Can we not open it back up,skatepark/ volleyball courts/ kids playground facility ,what a jewel that would be.
I actually found the remains of the Raleigh NASCAR speedway from the 50's in the woods on my channel. I also live close to the Qcconeechee speedway in Hillsborough which dates back to 48 and reminds me of Athens a bit. Great video man and great NASCAR archeology!
Had a lot of good time at Athens speedway a fan every Saturday night. Made a few laps around the old track myself And the movie Grease Lighting was filmed there (Athens) and Winder Barrow speedway there were a lots of good drivers came out of this t rack.
Great idea for preserving the track. Much of oval track racing came out of bike racing. The great board tracks were constructed by velodrome builders. Many of the early drivers had been champion riders and of course many of the top NASCAR and Indy drivers ride for fitness. I often wish there was more of a two way street between the sports, or in this case one-way turning left!
The track sits on private property and I believe is owned by a real estate company in Atlanta. My producer obtained permission for us to shoot there for the day. Having said that, you can basically stand on the side of the main road and at least see the top of the grandstands.
We have a former dirt track 2 miles from me that closed in the early 50"s. My Dad told me about it but we couldn't go back and look at it. The owner wouldn't permit it. It sad I never saw it.

We'll see what we can do! This one was kind of a labor of love, but we want to do more 👍
Excellent! So glad this lost track is now remembered.
There is what's left of a dirt track on Hwy 211 not far from Road Atlanta. If you look close you can see some of the board fence.
Thanks for the coverage ❤ 👍🏁🇺🇸
Thanks for watching!

Thanks for your note. Glad we were able to help you relive some memories!
This was super cool. As an Athens transplant who loves it, thank you for the history lesson!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wonderful video! I’ve lived near this place my whole life and never knew that Athens used to have a race track! So cool!
Thanks for watching Ryan! We're hoping to do more soon.
Love this! Great job with this. Looking forward to when you visit Augusta for Augusta International Raceway.
Thanks for checking it out!
Augusta was a paved track. The nascar tour did Augusta a few years f I’m not mistaken. At least many nascar drivers raced here at Augusta.
Very well done! Another piece of racing history brought to light.
I'm hoping there will be more to come. Thanks for watching!

Need one for Dixie Speedway. I remember going to the first race there. Also, Canton Motor Speedway.
Thanks, will keep those ideas in our back pocket.

Thanks for watching. We are working on our next one.
My Uncle, Mack Carter, raced here in the 70's and 80's. No. 46 most of his cars and No. 55.
Knew Mack from the old Allen's days. He paved our driveway . Zero Collins also raced there back in the day

Very well done!! I love abandon track videos
Appreciate you watching! Hope to churn out more in the coming months.

Our team here at Lost Track of Georgia is circling the drain on episode 2. Stay tuned for more details!
Episode #2 has been shot and is headed into editing. Coming in early 2023.
Went to many a race here as a teeneager!
Great video…the racetrack closed at the end of 1990 however not 92 I have pictures to document this.
Tootle's son use to be the flagman at my local track growing up, Corbin Speedway, but it, too, is now abandoned. :/
I found this on Google maps decided to look it up
Great Video
Will you be doing more of the lost track videos? Well done sir!!
Yes indeed! As a matter of fact, we are filming a new one in early December!
@@hartmanscott excellent!! You'll be surprised at how many people want to see content like this. Including myself!!
@@rickymiles9018 We definitely appreciate it and we're working on it for ya!
there is 4 race tracks in panama city fl that has been gone for years .
Are people allowed to visit the track? Awesome video 🙏

@@hartmanscott Ok cool, thanks a ton for the information! I’ll drive by and see what I can see from there 😁
Episode 2 - Banks County Speedway can be found here: ruclips.net/video/svuOAagA8Cc/видео.html
Who owns the property now?
I'm not 100% sure. One of our producers cleared it. My understanding is that it was a businessman who is in another city.
@@hartmanscott Randy Jackson owned it at one point. I remember hanging at the track with him and my Dad many years ago.

30 second ad for this? LOL
