Well done, JP! The pattern ended up being pretty stellar! I love how the red of the handle contrasts nicely against the dark blade.
Thanks Justin. Thats what i was going for because the bold colors look well in pictures.
You keep getting better! Beautiful knife, fantastic pattern! If I were to criticize one thing (constructively of course) I would like to see a pin through the tang and handle. That’s a huge, heavy blade and it is held with epoxy on a tapered tang.
Ill keep that in mind for future builds. I appreciate the constructive criticism.
The research says that the seax blades of the AS and the Vikings was held in by friction
@@AngloSaxon1 Sure, and there’s nothing wrong with that, it clearly worked for the time. But if you have the option to make extra sure the blade is secure, why not just go for it, right?
@@zyriantel9601 Yes, absolutley right, the safer the better
Daamn! That's a long boy Knife! Looks awesome man. Congrats for the blade and great work on the commentary as well, very enjoyable!
Cheers!
Thanks. Glad you liked it. Your sword was incredible. I going to have to go all out next challenge.
Dude, I can't believe how far you've come with your channel. Your video quality and blades have come on leaps and bounds.
Phenomenal blade my dude. Love it!
Thank you. Im slowly trying to improve where i can.
Great job, JP! Time for mosaics but get that press adjusted! 😉
Yup im already planning for it asap.
Just subscribed. Love the way you work and explain what you are doing without "over-explaining".
Thank you. I appreciate the support.
Gloves for me with epoxy as well. I saw one maker (can’t remember who) doubled up on his gloves. When he gets the messy part done, he takes the outer pair off and has clean gloves to wear for the final blade cleanup.
That sounds like a good idea. Thats what the bearded burtchers do in their videos. Makes sense. Ill have to give it a try.
@@JPsBladeworks I watch those guys as well! 🤣
@@SwitchbackXThunter great minds think alike 🤣
Well executed JP!! One damn fine looking seax, slicey as well!
Thank you
Gorgeous blade man! The pattern is awesome! Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much!
I think you can stop calling yourself a beginner! Very nicely done, and boy, do you have lots of patterned steel done for future projects!
Next few builds will be a set of knives from my left overs of this billet.
Nice work JP!
Thanks bud
Beautiful seax and pattern i love that handle
Glad you liked it
Great build, always enjoy your videos especially as you do commentary all the way through the process which I appreciate.
Thank you. I appreciate you watching.
Love your content brother. Keep on keepin' on as you have become my new favorite channel. The blend of machinery and hand forging is perfect.
Thank you. I appreciate the support.
Beautiful blade but is that handle going to stand up to heavy use over time without any pins? I suspect not.
Could I ask you why you wanted to cut in the tip with the grinder. Looking back, do you think it would have been a neater pattern to see it compressed into the tip rather than remain undistorted off the end of the blade? Beautiful work!
I figured since the clip is so aggressive, i wouldn't like how the pattern would look taking that dive so i just cut it out and let it go straight and undisturbed.
since it is such a big knife, wouldn´t it be better to have a few pins in the handle and/or a butt cap? I like the damascus design, nice work
Yea it would. It didnt come to mind since im not used to make anything this size.
Came out looking great brother!
Thanks. I'm looking forward to checking yours out.
Another Awesome video
Thanks. Im always appreciating the support
Great blade and entertaining video. Keep it up!
Thanks. Will do 🫡
very cool build, like it a lot
Glad you like it
Nicely done 👍
Thanks
Killer build Jesus! Beautiful work!
Thank you. I appreciate the continued support.
Great job that blade is beautiful man
Thank you
nice work, new sub again. I really enjoy seeing you do your work.
Thank you. I appreciate the sub.
My first love is woodworking, and yes the random orbit sander makes a good woodworker an amazing woodworker. Amazing blade brother!
Couldn't agree more. Thanks for watching.
Avesome seax man! Great work💪🏻🇫🇮
I appreciate it!
Kick ass, seriously!
Thanks. I appreciate it.
How are you, my friend?!! This work is getting better and better bro it's perfect 👌 👍 🥰
Thank you
@JPsBladeworks, my advice keeps going, bro 💪 it's beautiful 😍
Outstanding blade, it came out beautiful. You did an incredible job dealing with the size you were pressing. ~Kevin
Thanks Kevin. It was a challenge but we made it work.
That's beautiful bro
Thanks
This blade is beautiful. I love the pattern in it.......I think we have a front runner
Thank you but have your check out the other guys. Man they made some sick builds.
Cornbread and biscuits!!!
And if it's broke 'round here we fix it!
Its getting fixed alright.
Say what you want, it's great to be humble but you really did a great job 👏
There's always going to be room for improvement as there should be otherwise whats the point in continuing to do something you love.
Overall smashed it man!
(Edit) Thanks for calling me out at the end, I'm now subbed 😉
I appreciate the kind words and the sub.
Non so che errori hai fatto, ma per me è una lama fantastica!
Thank you
It’s better not to cut your billets straight but under an angle when you’re restack them that way you’ll get more surface for the forge weld and you also can press it from the top as usual not from the front you had to with a straight cut
You lost me? What restack needed to be cut under and angle?
how does the coffee make it darker ?
No idea. All i know is cofee is acidic and that acid makes it darker without damaging the steel. If i left it in ferric chloride as long as i leave it in coffee we would have a serious issue 😅
Lot of work but its very impressive
Thank you
Dude! That is sick bro! I love it! Well done! Are you coming to Blade Show? Amd if you are, are you bring this piece with you?
I dont think im going to balde show this year. Its still up in the air for me unfortunately.
Gotcha. If you do, hope to see you there!
Better to make glove, not war
No gloves! 😂😂
Never
You should upgrade/Fix your press. Not for the viewers but for you.
I plan on it. I upgraded the pump and motor over christmas but i plan on upgrading the piece that goes up and down in the next few weeks so i can start doing mosaics and more precise patterns. Right now it has way too much play.
I also got more channels I sub’d to thanks to your list 🔪❤️
Awesome! Thank you!
First!
Second!
Pattern Welded Steel. True Damascus no longer exists.
🍪
Please stop calling it Damascus, use "patternwelded" "forgewelded" instead as true Damascus steel is monochrome crucible steel.
On the otherhand, love your work.
Thanks. Glad you liked it
@@JPsBladeworks Indeed I did, but it do annoy med how, specially av American, smiths have a tendency to brand patternwelded steel like yours here as "Damascus steel", even though it's not. It's better to be honest and call it what it is, patternwelded and in your context here, also forge welded, instead of continuing to spread missinformation by calling it "Damascus steel".
