My family moved "Up" to the projects of Brooklyn, Brownsville Housing, one of the most dangerous areas anywhere. Later moved to Cali and lived in the Florencia area. Followed by "Lil Watts" near Hawthorne and then blue collar Lawndale. Never in trouble. My beloved wife was from Pacoima, which has a heavy gang presence. We loved to go to Santa Barbara. It reminded us of Spain or colonial Latin America. To a poor boy from the projects it looked like paradise. No disrespect.
