Israeli-American historian says Gaza war is ‘war of annihilation

- “It looks like Hiroshima. It looks like Germany at the end of World War Two.”
Israeli-American historian and professor of holocaust and genocide studies at Brown University, Omer Bartov, described Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza as an act of annihilation of the Palestinian people.
Bartov says not only have Israeli forces been moving displaced Palestinians around the Gaza strip but have also been strategically bombing mosques, museums, hospitals, and anything that serves the health or culture of a people, in an attempt to cleanse the entire area of Palestinians.

After hearing comments on Gaza by Mr. Gabor Maté, Holocaust survivor and Mr. Toshiyuki Mimaki, Hiroshima survivor, the only conclusion possible: Israel has managed to transform Gaza into a morphing of Auschwitz and Hiroshima combined. Both hells at the same time.

Pointing out war crimes against defenceless Palestinian civilians, including population starvation, genocide and ethnic cleansing is not antisemitic.
Since when have the Palestinians been defenseless? I understood that most houses had tunnels beneath them with machine guns and rocket launchers in each one. Also in mosques and hospitals and schools. Is that just propaganda or are you in denial about that too?
@stevecarr6175 can a 5 year old carry a machine gun? 70% of dead are women and children. Women can hold guns maybe but kids? The numbers speak for themselves.
@@stevecarr6175 You"understand" nothing. You are parrotting lies "justifying" g'de 🙁
@@stevecarr6175It's propaganda. Having tunnels under the streets is not illegal or unusual.. There are tunnels under every street in any city in America. Where do you think manholes go to? The Israelis have no military targets; they are starving the entire population and destroying every bit of infrastructure, like the Nazis when they liquidated the Warsaw ghetto. Yes, there were tunnels there, too.
35 million people died during WW2. The majority were civilians.
The narrow minded homocidal zealots in Hamas didn’t foresee Israel’s response. Civilised people can behave like barbarians if sufficiently provoked, however, barbarians cannot behave like civilised people.
I have a simple theory that is behind the genocide. I see Bibi pissed at his people, who did not agree to his new regulations to control them. Changing their democracy to a new level of 'autocracy' with him in charge. He organized the slaughter at the concert, making sure, no security was triggered, allowing it to occur. He then, had the freedom card to proclaim, he was at war, with Hamas. The smirk on his felon mug, said it all. He wanted to be at war with Hamas and get rid of the Palestinians, for decades. He now had carte blanche. His government should have exposed him as a fraud when they had the chance. They blew it and now, there is this unleashed monster, who feels vindicated, with the help of the US behind him. That is my 'view' of the genocide happening inside Gaza. Bibi should have been locked up, but he got loose. How ironic is that? A person who should know about genocides is now, the trigger of another genocide. Using different excuses to validate his psychotic behavior. How was that missed, How???
Thank you Mr Omer Bartov - I LOVE YOU - I cry myself to sleep many nights - I suffer with the Palestinians of Gaza, West Bank also

It looks like Hiroshima and Germany (which in neither case were ever considered wars of annihilation), but only about 1% of the civilian population have been killed in heavy dense urban warfare, as sad as that is. A far fewer percentage than in similar historical situations. It should be blatantly obvious then that Israel is targeting infrastructure, Hamas terrorists hiding in civilian infrastructure, and not the civilians themselves. This is due partly because Israel notifies civilians before bombing, sets up evacuation zones, etc. Of course these aren't 100% failproof, but it's more than any other army does. If it's a war of annihilation, as the speaker claims, the IDF has done a terrible job. He actually makes the point, inadvertently, that it's not. With all the destruction, a real war of annihilation could have claimed the lives of 50% of the population say, not 1%. Unfortunately there are so many people who prefer to ignore the actual facts.
That's not true. The Gaza Health Authority reports bodies it has recovered and know died directly from the war. It doesnt include those trapped, those unrecovered, those who died from disease/hunger/thirst caused by the attack on Gaza. The Lancet academic study put the Gaza death toll at 186,000 using conservative assumptions 6 months ago. And with another 300,000 lucky Gazans having escaped, that's likely way above 25% of the population ethnically cleansed within 1 year - other genocides have gone on longer.
But even if you disagree on the numbers, they do not matter. The international legal definition of a genocide developed by a Jewish scholar following the Holocaust defined it as destroying a people's ability to function as a group. Most genocide scholars, most human rights agencies, the UN, all agree it is a genocide. The ICJ is investigating it as genocide. The ICC have launched arrest warrants for war crimes against Israeli leaders.
You can look back on your post in the future and recognise that you defended what will be overwhelmingly accepted by the world as a genocide.
@@adnans8778 The world has accepted many ridiculous notions. Fortunately I don't base my judgements on them.

@ Islam is the problem, not the solution
If there was no Oct 7, Gaza would look like what it was before Oct 7. Nobody would be talking about genocide, annihilation, and massacre. If Hamas had released the hostages earlier, there would be far less suffering. Why is it always about Gaza and the Palestinians? What about the hostages who are also suffering as well.
Mr Omer is Arab American who’s supporting Hamas.
Israel should keep the region as it will increase stability within the middle east. Israel gave the land up once due to the UN and ultimately everything is worse now for the Palestinian people, who would have been Israeli citizens by now. Palestine is a people that has proved that they cannot seperate their ideologies from their political motivations and maintain graceful peace without occupation.

@@stevecarr6175 Official translation of the full text of a Saudi-inspired peace plan adopted by
the Arab summit in Beirut, 2002.
The Arab Peace Initiative
The Council of Arab States at the Summit Level at its 14th Ordinary Session,
Reaffirming the resolution taken in June 1996 at the Cairo Extra-Ordinary Arab
Summit that a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East is the strategic
option of the Arab countries, to be achieved in accordance with international legality,
and which would require a comparable commitment on the part of the Israeli
government,
Having listened to the statement made by his royal highness Prince Abdullah bin
Abdul Aziz, crown prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in which his highness
presented his initiative calling for full Israeli withdrawal from all the Arab territories
occupied since June 1967, in implementation of Security Council Resolutions 242
and 338, reaffirmed by the Madrid Conference of 1991 and the land-for-peace
principle, and Israel's acceptance of an independent Palestinian state with East
Jerusalem as its capital, in return for the establishment of normal relations in the
context of a comprehensive peace with Israel,
Emanating from the conviction of the Arab countries that a military solution to the
conflict will not achieve peace or provide security for the parties, the council:
1. Requests Israel to reconsider its policies and declare that a just peace is its
strategic option as well.
2. Further calls upon Israel to affirm:
I- Full Israeli withdrawal from all the territories occupied since 1967, including the
Syrian Golan Heights, to the June 4, 1967 lines as well as the remaining occupied
Lebanese territories in the south of Lebanon.
II- Achievement of a just solution to the Palestinian refugee problem to be agreed
upon in accordance with U.N. General Assembly Resolution 194.
III- The acceptance of the establishment of a sovereign independent Palestinian
state on the Palestinian territories occupied since June 4, 1967 in the West Bank
and Gaza Strip, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
3. Consequently, the Arab countries affirm the following:
I- Consider the Arab-Israeli conflict ended, and enter into a peace agreement with
Israel, and provide security for all the states of the region.
II- Establish normal relations with Israel in the context of this comprehensive peace.
4. Assures the rejection of all forms of Palestinian patriation which conflict with the
special circumstances of the Arab host countries.
5. Calls upon the government of Israel and all Israelis to accept this initiative in order
to safeguard the prospects for peace and stop the further shedding of blood,
enabling the Arab countries and Israel to live in peace and good neighbourliness and
provide future generations with security, stability and prosperity.
6. Invites the international community and all countries and organisations to support
this initiative.
7. Requests the chairman of the summit to form a special committee composed of
some of its concerned member states and the secretary general of the League of
Arab States to pursue the necessary contacts to gain support for this initiative at all
levels, particularly from the United Nations, the Security Council, the United States
of America, the Russian Federation, the Muslim states and the European Union.
For purposes of comparison, the following is an earlier draft discussed by Arab
foreign ministers on 25 March, 2002, in advance of the summit:
The Council of the Arab League, which convenes at the level of a summit on March
27-28, 2002 in Beirut, affirms the Arab position that achieving just and
comprehensive peace is a strategic choice and goal for the Arab states.
After the Council heard the statement of Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz in
which he called for the establishment of normal relations in the context of a
comprehensive peace with Israel, and that Israel declares its readiness to withdraw
from the occupied Arab territories in compliance with United Nations resolutions 242
and 338 and Security Council resolution 1397, enhanced by the Madrid conference
and the land-for-peace principle, and the acceptance of an independent, sovereign
Palestinian state with al-Quds al-Sharif as its capital, the Council calls on the Israeli
government to review its policy and to resort to peace while declaring that just peace
is its strategic option.
The Council also calls on Israel to assert the following:
Complete withdrawal from the Arab territories occupied since 1967,
including full withdrawal from the occupied Syrian Golan Heights and the
remaining occupied parts of south Lebanon to the June 4, 1967 lines.
To accept to find an agreed, just solution to the problem of Palestinian
refugees in conformity with Resolution 194.
To accept an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the
Palestinian lands occupied since June 4, 1967 in the West Bank and Gaza
Strip and with Jerusalem (al-Quds al-Sharif) as its capital in accordance with
Security Council Resolution 1397.
In return, the Arab states assert the following:
To consider the Arab-Israeli conflict over and to enter into a peace treaty
with Israel to consolidate this.
To achieve comprehensive peace for all the states of the region.
To establish normal relations within the context of comprehensive peace
with Israel.
The Council calls on the Israeli government and the Israelis as a whole to accept this
initiative to protect the prospects of peace and to spare bloodshed so as to enable
the Arab states and Israel to coexist side by side and to provide for the coming
generations a secure, stable and prosperous future.
It calls on the international community with all its organisations and states to support
the initiative.
The Council calls on its presidency, its secretary general and its follow-up committee
to follow up on the special contacts related to this initiative and to support it on all
levels, including the United Nations, the United States, Russia, the European Union
and the Security Council. If you want more info use internet
