- It my be Garfield's 40th Birthday but his owner Jon Arbuckle made his debut alongside Garfield on June 19th, 1978. So it would be wrong not to include him.

Thom Huge - He sounds like the perfect Jon to me. Can portray any emotion Jon expresses in a way that makes you feel like the original comic is acctually talking _to you._ Nails the sarcastic side of Jon.
Sandy Kenyon - Not exactly Jon. Very classy. Unfortunately too classy for good ol' Jon Arbuckle. Sounds like the handsome working husband in an old sitcom.
Jon Barnard - _N o ._
Wally Wingert - Pulls off Jon's dorky and childish side amazingly. Sounds like the quirky and fun best friend in a movie that has a good ending.
i love the newton pfp :D
I agree.
my fav one is wally
Well, I wouldn’t say Jon P. Barnard is terrible, but he's just the weakest when voicing Jon. When he voices Garfield it wasn't _that_ weak to say the least.
@@LogoMan404sandy to me is not very good.
i love how Thom Huge as Jon sounds so... gentle? even when he's angry?? his voice is soothing, i'd like to hear Jon with that voice read a book.
man really said **threatens garfield with taxidermy soothingly**
The sad thing is, apparently Thom didn't want to do any voice acting and Jim Davis really had to twist his arm to get him to voice Jon in the first place. And it's a shame, too. He was great. Not only as Jon, but as Binky the Clown and Roy Rooster. Really is a shame he didn't want to branch out and do other, non-Garfield projects.
Yeah real shame, he has a good voice for it.
@@IGeorge94 Yeah, maybe if Thom recognized the fans, including us, that really enjoyed him doing the voice for Jon, Binky the Clown, and Roy Rooster, it should be able to reinvigorate his will to start voice acting again before he dies, because if it weren't for Jim Davis having to beg for him to voice Jon in the first place, we wouldn't have been able to hear Thom's wonderful voice!
Thom had been Jim’s fraternity brother at Ball State. If that hadn’t been the case, the world may have never experienced his great talents. Jim may be a hack, but he’s good for something.
Out of respect for Lorenzo music he retired from Jon.
@@fireflowerfilms2010 Aw dang, did Lorenzo Music's unfortunate death really force Thom to retire?
Best Jon voice by far is Thom Huge. No contest.
Facts
Agreed
Thom Huge is the best voice for Jon Arbuckle.
True I like Sandy kennon portray of John in here comes Garfield his voice so dead pan like Lorenzo music but he is laid back and witty .
And Wally Wingert
1:57 "i supposed you want breakfast"
Garfield: **vanishes out of existance**
Garfield: *”I’m not real, nothing is real, WAKE UP JON”*
@@RoseyStoleYourToastJon, its been 40 years, you have to forget me jon
I’m so happy to own a cat
It's ironic that someone named Jon had by far the worst voice for Jon.
Well isn’t that technically Jon’s character? He’s an awkward, clumsy, amateur shell of a man? (Ok that sounded a bit harsh, lemme rephrase that by saying the guys performance as Jon was sort of unintentionally in character with Jon arbuckle’s awkwardness)
@@goldensans5607 What makes his voice so bad though is that he uses the exact same voice for Garfield, so even if looked at from that perspective his performance falls flat.
He just sounds like another Garfield
He sounds like Baldi 💀💀
Yes, I see what you are saying half way into the video....
Wally Wingert. He perfectly embodies Jon's inner socially awkward self.
Yeah, if by today's standards you would think that. At least he's in one of the top 3.
@@robbiewalker2831 Tom Huge is overrated. Shut up, you're only saying that because of nostalgia.
He also voiced the Riddler in the Arkham series
@@BenJPics9925 I mean Thom Huge was the OG Jon. Yet I grew up on Wally Wingert.
Wally Wingert is the voice I hear in my head
Jon Barnard sounds like if Garfield did a Jon impression.
IT DOES THO
Even when I read the new Garfield strips, I can still hear Thom Huge's voice for Jon Arbuckle in my head, alongside the late Lorenzo Music as Garfield.
They're legends. But I prefer Frank Welker and Wally Wingert.
I personally like Thom Huge, and Wally Wingert voices for Jon. They sound more "Jon like" to me lol. On the other hand. Sandy Kenyon, Jon Barnard sound kinda..they aren't terrible it's just I feel like Jon Barnard voice for Jon sounds more Garfield like and to me Sandy Kenyon sounds kinda fancy. 🤔😅
Sandy Kenyon sounds too classy for good ol' Jon. Jon Bernard sounds weird as Jon, let alone Garfield
Sandy Kenyon's voice is good, it just doesn't sound like Jon.
Jon Barnard's voice for Jon sounds a lot more like Garfield, ironically enough.
He actually does the voice for Garfield too, so not really ironic.
oh no-
I remember when i was little, I used to have such a HUGE crush on Jon for NO REASON-
IDK WHY I JUST DID-
ooohhhhh buddy.
*i'm on this phase*
HELP I AM CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING THIS BAHAHAHA
I HAVE A CRUSH ON JON RIGHT NOW!
When I was younger, I didn’t really have an opinion on him (I basically didn’t care). But now, I realise that he’s kinda hot and I was missing out on a lot- 😳😳😳👁w👁 lol
You aren’t alone, he’s cute! 😊 You’ll squeal when you see that whole dancing video of him, (which I believe was from the original series)? Jon dances really well and everyone around him hates it, but it blew up being super popular. XD ruclips.net/video/8UsyoVx9BeY/видео.html
Nah, that's normal. We all had that phase.
Thom huge without a doubt! He's a legend
I have to go with Wally Wingert
Listening to Sandy Kenyon's Jon made me think of Adam West voicing himself in Family Guy. It's not exactly the same, but the timing and the overall tone seem very similar.
Thom Huge’s such a talented guy. Not only did he completely nail Jon’s voice and personality, but he voiced other characters in the specials and Garfield and Friends with incredibly different voices and personalities like Binky the Clown (I would LOVE to see footage of him doing that voice 😆 I wonder how rough that was on his throat) and Roy the Rooster. On top of that, he’s a great singer, and he wrote every single song that appeared in the U.S. Acres (Orson’s Farm) cartoons on Garfield and Friends.
I love how Jon Barnards sounds more like Garfield then Garfield in the Video Game
Oh Thom you will always be my Jon.
Wally is our Jon
_"BULLETS WON'T WORK, JON..."_
The banana knock knock joke without a punchline works John and you killed me
Thom is easily my favourite.
It should be Wally
Jon is one of my favorite characters in all of fiction. Garfield cannot be Garfield without Jon, and much of modern Garfield I don't think understands that. I've known about Garfield for a majority of my life and I've always thought that Jon is a much more compelling and interesting of a character than Garfield. The Garfield comics to me are primarily about Jon, but just always seen through the lens of Garfield's point of view, and that formula is what makes the comics so great in my opinion. People nowadays don't seem to like Garfield, many people seeing it as unfunny, repetitive, and boring. I think this is because the focus of Garfield has gradually shifted its focus from Jon and Garfield to just Garfield. I don't think many of the comics are supposed to be funny in the first place, but when the first thing people think of is a goofy fat cat that eats lasagna of course they're gonna think it's supposed to be funny. I think much of the comics are supposed to be bits of a miserable middle-class loser's life seen through the lens of a goofy fat cat that eats lasagna who can juxtapose Jon's bleak and mundane outlook on most things. I hope Jon one day gets the attention he deserves.
I had no idea anyone but Thom ever did it. That's crazy.
Also, Jon keeps saying Garfield should catch mice to supplement his diet. I hope he's prepared to give him meds for catching worms then XD
Does anyone know if Thom Huge dubbed over the live-action actor for Jon in the series of Alpo cat food commercials that were aired roughly between 1989 and 1993? Those were the commercials that sometimes had Lorenzo Music voicing Garfield and sometimes had the recently-departed Tommy Smothers as Garfield.
The Jon voice in the Alpo commercials sounds pretty much exactly like Thom Huge. The Alpo Jon voice sounds just a notch less cartoonish than in the CBS prime time specials and Garfield & Friends but I think it was Thom Huge delivering a slightly more "natural" performance to match the live-action actor's lips.
My rankings on who had the best Jon voice:
1. Wally Wingert
2. Thom Huge
3. Sandy Kenyon
4. Jon Barnard
Wally has by far the best Jon impression ever by how comedic and jolly he really is
Thom was better than Wally
That’s the problem: Wally can only make Jon sound jolly. Thom gives him much more emotional range and relatability. Makes the character feel more down to earth while still retaining his dorkiness.
@@Garfield152-i6o Thom sounded lazy when he was playing Jon
Thom Huge: Best one
Sandy Kenyon: Eh
Jon Barnard: Worst
Wally Wingert: Pretty Good
Sandy is ok, Jon is not good, Thom is the OG but for me Wally's the best
Hes the quirky jon but not the nihilist jon thats sometimes in the comics@@wolfgangamadeusmozart1293
Thom Huge's voice work is most comforting, Sandy Kenyon's is most accurate to a tired working man, Jon Barnard's is too robotic (ironically the worst), and Wally Wingert's almost sounds like the host of a generic kid's show (in a good way).
“ today garfield we’re going to eat nothing but razins “ - Jon Arbuckle
1:46 this line is dark
Thom Huge’s voice for Jon was perfect. Jon is a hapless dork and kind of a loser, but he can also be an ordinary everyman, a deadpan snarker, and even downright pissed when Garfield pushes him too far. Thom seamlessly captures the emotional range and nuances of the character. Wally’s good, but almost sounds a little TOO friendly. Like, I don’t buy that this Jon gets genuinely upset. Thom’s voice is better suited for a more fleshed-out Jon - especially when he’s irritated and/or being dryly sarcastic.
Oh shit, Wally Wingert the Riddler himself voices Jon now?
3:59 Sounds like Jason Griffith's Sonic voice
I still find it insane how Jon Arbuckle and Renji from Bleach have the same voice actor
Like Lorenzo Music WAS the voice of Garfield for almost 20 years, Thom Huge will ALWAYS be Jon Arbuckle. He, like Lorenzo Music, voiced their characters for 20 years. Just like the late Mel Blanc. He'll ALWAYS will be the voice behind the Looney Tunes characters.
Does anyone find Jon Barnard’s voice to sound like Garfield’s voice in the Garfield Show?
Yeah. It doesn't really fit Jon Arbuckle
@@wolfgangamadeusmozart1293late but it sounds like Garfield doing a mocking version of Jon's voice.
“Your hyperactive and that’s serious” 😂
It was good that they went back to Thom Huge after trying Sandy Kenyon. Sandy was too mellow. There wasn't enough contrast with Garfield. John Barnard was even worse. Wally Wingert at least has some excitement, but he doesn't have Thom Huge's range. Also, these newer Garfield animations are hideous! Film Roman had it perfect! They should swallow their pride and give 3D a rest, because they're terrible at it!
Thom Huge - By far the best Jon voice, he had been there a long time too
Sandy Kenyon - Sounds kind of British, doesn't fit whatsoever
Jon Barnard - Why does he sound nearly the same as his voice for Garfield?
Wally Wingert - I actually like this voice alot (Not as much as Thom Huge) I grew up with The Garfield Show just so you know
Thom Huge. No contest...
Wally Wingert. Hands down
Wally is my favorite Jon
Mine too
Same
I thought I recognised the latest voice for Jon and hey look who it is it’s Wally who played The Riddler in the Batman Arkham games
Wally is cool
@@wolfgangamadeusmozart1293 He's also a regular on the 1966 Batman Message Board. He's been connected to the franchise for decades, even doing an Adam West rap song circa 1988 as part of the publicity blitz for both the upcoming movie and the 50th anniversary of the comic book.
And Renji from bleach
And HH, your HHGregg sales guide
People give Jon Barnard a hard time, but he honestly sounds more like how I'd imagine Jon in the comic strip.
Jon's character in the TV specials and movies has a down-to-earth and relatable side, but his personality in the comic was much more goofy. So as an adaptation of Comic Jon, I think Barnard's voice is pretty appropriate!
For sure, it's not as appealing as the other VAs... but still appropriate.
Yeah but I feelnLike Thom hughe Did a better much capturing that goofy side of Jon better imo.
Wally and Thom are my Favs
Good
Huge is by far the winner, but give Wingert credit where it's due. I mean, I can't hate a guy who voiced Renji freakin' Abarai.
(Also, are we sure Barnard wasn't supposed to be voicing Garfield?)
I thought it was just my ears! He sounded a little Garfield to me too.
RIDDLE ME THIS, GARFIELD!
He did voice Garfield in the games too.
hope this series never end
Thom and Wally are the best Jon voice overall.
Thanks for uploading, and I agree with your ranking.

the jon barnard one sounds more like garfield to me
Why does Sandy Kenyon's Jon sound like a crime boss?
He's a classy actor
Man, Thom Huge's been the voice of Jon than Lorenzo Music's been Garfield's
Wally is the best by far
Facts
Wally works well enough, but Thom has more emotional range and makes the character feel fleshed out/nuanced. There are scenes where Thom’s Jon gets upset with Garfield and you actually feel like “uh oh, shit just got real”. With Wally though, Jon always sounds perky and harmless.
Thom huge is the best Jon voice
Thom Huge just fits Jon
Sandy Kenyon almost sounds kinda British, it's so weird
Also, Jon Barnard's last appearance was in Garfield Lasagna World Tour, from 2008
Also
Actually Jon Barnard still voices the Garfield characters from time to time to this very day. His most recent time voicing was in December of 2021 for a Garfield Pinball game for the Apple Arcade. Yes, Not even Nickelodeon can stop him. Nickelodeon only seems to have control over Garfield Voices if it's a Crossover.
For some reason I like the present
Thom Huge, no contest
Jon Barnard voices Garfield AND John, and I HATE it
un popular opinion:Wally wingert is the best
Weird how Sandy temporarily substituted Huge
