"Deeds not words" is a great slogan though.
It's also the tagline for the b-movie Megaforce (1982).
get out sargon xD, you should do a video on this
Akkad Daily bro. How tf are you not verified yet on RUclips for this channel.
There were plenty of 'deeds' done in Liberia. Just not the good kind.
It's a slogan for the US Army
You can lead a horse to water but it doesn't mean it will build infrastructure or create local business.
Horses? I see what you did there..
a hoof problem?
Speaking of horses, you could lead AOC to water and she would say, "Still water? You offer me still water? I bet if I was a white male you'd offer me sparking water!"
Frank Manning AOC is a donkey, technically a different species, but yeah, she would still bitch about whitey (all the while getting that white D)
A minor correction. 800% debt-to-GDP ratio doesn't mean (as you said) 'For every dollar the government spent, they owed eight back.' It means 'For every dollar's worth of goods produced in the country, they owed eight.' This is much worse, of course!
That doesn't say much since GDP both as a concept and its calculation are garbage.
@@senselessnothing agreed
Tasos Obscure 😂😂🤣🤣. This is what socialists nations claim so they can try to spin their horrible GDP numbers as “inaccurate”. Every single respected economist agrees GDP is the best way to gauge a nations economy.
Sam P You're talking about mainstream economists, ie failures.

Tasos Obscure Mises the socialist economist? Lmfao the one the ENTIRE financial industry viewed as a hack and had no basis for any of his claims. The one that touted socialism and turned around and promoted fascism? Mises is the literal definition of a failure. The guy was not respected by anyone. 🤣

Real African ethostates have never been tried
Real British ones have. They were pretty good before the wars pissed our boys against the wall.
They really haven't. European powers deliberately put borders through ethnic groups to divide them

I remember about 10 years ago, being a grade school boy, searching up Liberia and the first result being cannibalism.
@The Wessex Independence Party remember the internet?
Still top result on RUclips.
Just googled the combination of words: Liberia cannibalism. Wow! Before ELECTIONS they do ritual killings to get more votes!
1. Katherine Mary Knight an Australian woman was sentenced to life imprisonment without Parole for murdering her partner John Charles Thomas Price in 2001;
2. Armin Meiwes stabbed Bernd Jurgen Brandes in the neck with a knife, kissing him first, then chopped him into several pieces. He eventually cooked parts of Brandes in olive oil and garlic and ended up eating 20 kg of human flesh in 2001.
3. In Kansas City, Kansas United States, Marc Sappington went on a murder and cannibalism spree and gained notoriety for eating the leg of Alton Fred Brown.
There are countless stories out there about cannibalism and why people do it irrespective of the pigmentation of your skin. Be careful about pointing fingers at others.

I find the use of the term "Persons of colour" in a document from 1847 to be quite interesting.
Poc or Pos? That is the question!
I went to school with a Liberian who was getting a business degree, with the plan of going back to Liberia. His reasoning was "I am getting a business degree, because in Liberia there is no business." Ignoring the fact that business degrees are BS, I hope he did well.
To play a bit of devil's advocate, I would guess that there are those who would say that this was still a case of Western colonialism simply because it was colonised by Westernised black folk: people "corrupted" by European influences. They'll say that the indigenous tribes were getting on quite fine prior to this "invasion." To a degree this is perhaps true, though it certainly destroys any argument of racial unity or even significant commonality. Further, those tribes were certainly not doing anything that would make themselves socially, militarily, or economically competitive with their colonial neighbours. The only countries in the world that did not "suffer" colonialism and yet still rose to rival Western powers were those who invited Western experts from whom to learn and thus begin adapt their nations. That's what Japan did, after all.
I don’t disagree with anything you said.
@Alpha Boss Sort of doing down everyone that is non western here, I believe that non-whites have the ability to grow economically, why dont you?
@Alpha Boss India isn't an economic leader.
@Alpha Boss Why the colonization of Africa should have in any way not allow Liberia to accomplish anything substantial economically?
And if it did in any way, why would Liberia still stay useless even after the colonization is long over.
And what example China and India can serve for this matter? These are succefull countries not anyware near total failures as Liberia.

They were colonized in the mind maaaannnn.
You mention at the end that Liberia's history is depressing because it seems to suggest that native entrepreneurship has never been tried, and that its only hope for salvation is foreign intervention. While I have no desire to invoke arguments about the benefits of imperialism here, it does seem to me that many African countries suffer the curse of their artifical borders. African entrepreneurship is possible, but too often sparse resources are constantly squabbled over by tribal and ethnic groups who through culture or necessity are basically semi-nomadic. Ultimately, the framework of the republic is a trap that keeps them fighting over the same box, rather than allowing them to develop their own smaller localities or be absorbed into a more natural polity. It seems like there's only two ways to go- either become part of a bigger, more stable nation-state/contiguous empire that could take the "hit" of developing liberia a bit, or do away with the Liberian republic as is, and let each tribal group find its own land and work up from there. Neither option is very palatable, and especially not to the foreign oligarchs who will always profit from Liberia's chaos.
Thank you so much for the thorough and clear explanation and summary! I am currently doing a research on Liberia and this video helps me so much! Hope you're having a great day :)

This is the most informative and accurate video I've seen on everything that most never know about the country, even after visiting. Great job Academic Agent! Superb work. One thing to note is that Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (also a member of the 'congo tribe' (the americo-liberians) carried the same corrupt practices and killed foreign direct investments in the country and George Weah is pretty much inactive.

While the diversity between the Americo-Liberians and the native tribes has given the country some strength, I think that strength would be greater if the population was 10% Maori and 13% Laotian. Hence the original constitution which banned non-African immigration is the cause of the country's weakness and we can blame it all on the white people who wrote it.

Yo. Possibly irrelevant question here but why call Liberia the real-life equivalent to Wakanda when there are clearly better comparisons to make (Wakanda, Djibouti, Somaliland, Ethiopia, South Africa, etc) and I don't recall Wakanda being explicitly stated to be on the African equitorial
Even moreso when you consider Somaliland isn't on modern maps despite being autonomous for about 2 decades now with their own currency and passports as well as better public healthcare than their neighbors (except Ethiopia)
iron saad Because I don’t believe any of them are explicitly ethnostates, also I made a video on Ethiopia before. ruclips.net/video/0UyOTgmDmek/видео.html
The Academic Agent; that's understandable for most of the countries I listed but if you're looking for an explicitly blacks-only ethonostate then you may want to consider researching on Somaliland and Djibouti (although Djibouti's income relies on porting carrier vessels and foreign military installation as deterrence on pirating in the red sea, the upper class of their population primarily consists of Africans disregarding the investors on the ports themselves which probably doesn't count as they don't constitute the population but rather the GDP like the rubber company you mentioned in your video)
The Ethnic groups that didn’t join the Liberian Government did so only when their Land was encroached on by the British and French. They had the freedom to remain autonomous until these encroachments and so they joined the Republic for help
LIBERIA FOREVER!
Where do the Bongs of Wakanda grow? On the range naturally :)
Actually the only reason that Wakanda wasn’t touched by European powers is because of vibranium and they were the only ones to have and thanks to that they could defend themselves and progress much faster but the most unbelievable part about this is the fact that a monarchy actually cared about his people for multiple descendants and didn’t go to absolute shit and I agree with this video
