After all these years, I am convinced there are people at Hasbro and writing the stories that watch your videos to know who is due for a turn in the spotlight.
Fun Fact : The Masterpiece Smokescreen (MP-19) referenced Devcon as one of the sponsored decals ('Devcon Oil' written on the doors) on Smokescreen's vehicle mode. That's a way of Smokescreen for saying thanks to Devcon for helping him in the Gambler episode. I just loved that little detail.
If there's one sure fire way to ensure that a character is remembered no matter how small their role, it's to stick them with the ultimate badass title "bounty hunter".
In TF Animated, Devcon was a member of the Cyber-Ninja Corps and was trained by Yoketron who called him as his "perfect student" due to being emotionally disciplined, balancing reverence and levity.
or alternatively, sense lockdown always stays "unaligned" maybe we could see a friendship between them? would be fun to see how devcon would react to lockdown repeatedly taking deception jobs.
I would like to read a comic book series that reunited the most famous bounty hunters of the Transformers universe Just imagine this: Devcon, Slizardo, the Skuxxoid, Lockdown, Death’s Head and many other mercenaries; all fighting over the same bounty (Similar to the “War of the Bounty Hunters” comic event of Star Wars)
At long last, a Basics on the Bot whom I chose to name myself online! Nice one, Chris, you did the old boy good :) Fun fact: on Smokescreen's Masterpiece toy, one of his "sponsor decals" is "Devcon Oil", referencing their friendship in 'The Gambler' . Here's hoping the bit about Void Rivals comes true!
Devcon such an interesting character. Maybe time to move Devcon from being an obscure character, to be given a front line appearance in future Transformers media.
Wait so in the Wrecker's Comic Devcon went to find Slizardo and renew their partnership, but wasn't that comic set in the Beast Machines era? Buddy I think you outlived Slizardo.
As a kid, Devcon seemed like a cool idea. Just seeing there were other Autobots operating in the universe, beyond Earth and Cybertron. And did anyone else grow up thinking his name was Defcon?
Devcon has a cool name. I'm surprised the Hasbro hasn't used Devcon in other Transformers cartoon besides the episode The Gambler and the cameos in other shows and media. Hasbro should take the Devcon from Dark of the Moon and make it an Autobot the likes that particular alternate mode and guns, like Warpath like to shoot his chest cannon and say stuff like Kablam.
Devcon, despite his small appearances in the Transformers franchise has become a fan favorite character, but perhaps the reason why he has remained in obscurity is due to the terrible reputation that others in his profession have created. After all as the saying goes, when it comes to bounty hunters: "We don't need their scum!"
Great episode! Devcon easily my favorite single-episode character. The Gambler is one of my favorite G1 episodes too! I have Hasbro‘s Devcon figure, and I have a third-party legends scale Devcon as well. I did not know about the 2014 Botcon exclusive. I will have one purchased by the end of the day! Thanks for letting me know about that.
I enjoy seeing these Transformers that are with a designation of Bounty Hunter, Mercenary, Double Agent and the like. They bring about a somewhat not one side or the other, but only to themselves type of idea.
I was still one of the few people Among my friends who actually tempered this Autobot bounty hunter from that cartoon when I watched it forever ago. Devcon has always been one of the most memorable original characters from the cartoon. Really hope for an appearance of him in Void Rivals!
What a great start to the month. Devcon is still a figure I'd like to add to my collection. Any future stories with the character, I could see him being a part of the Mercenary faction, or perhaps the Wreckers.
When I watched G1 for the first time a year ago his episode and him stood out to me. I loved the idea of an autobot bounty hunter and he became one of my favorite G1 characters.
It’s been 40 years and I still can’t believe they named him Devcon instead of DEFCON. Was that a typo in the script no one caught? Studio interference at the last minute worried that kids would somehow be inspired to try and build nukes?
Cartoon writers in the 80s tended to be actively prohibited from using words associated with the nuclear threat of the Cold War, yeah. The G1 seires bible and the G.I. Joe writer's guide explicitly labels them "no-nuke shows." Hasbro famously almost didn't let Megatron be named "Megatron" because it sounded like "megaton." So the spelling of Devcon's name was very much on purpose.
I have an idea for a Shattered Glass version of Devcon, he would be called DEFCON and he would be the opposite of a bounty hunter, he would actively try to free Autobot prisoners. His story arc would be learning that teamwork is actually overrated.
I think the mystery is why the movie Decepticon (who would make more sense being named directly after the term "DEFCON" than intentionally after the G1 character Devcon) also spells it that way.
Nice! I was waiting for one about Devcon. Incidentally I wrote a story called _No Business Like Sheol Business_ where my Decepticon OC goes to Monacus with Ramjet, Dirge, and Astrotrain, and fights in Lord Gyconi's Pit of Destruction. Devcon doesn't show up, though.
If they had Devcon go head to head with Lockdown itd probably make him a much more prominent character. The two of them would probably be akin to Boba Fett vs Cad Bane
If they reintroduce Devcon in future media, have him with his partner Slizardo in a rivalry with Lockdown and the DOTM Devcon being named something else like Devilcon or something
Bro here is doing god's work to spread knowledge to new generation of transformers fans. You inspired me to create my own transformers fan animation series on RUclips. My characters are inspired by transformers armada art style
What do you think is the best thing about Devcon apart from dealing with reptile like aliens? Which one of his powers and abilities do you think is the best?
I dunno why but he is my favourite when it comes to one off characters. Guess I thought an Autobot bounty hunter sounded so cool as a kid. While I'm glad he gotten a more cartoon accurate figure via legacy. Just a shame the spaceship mode is only accurate from one angle!
Hello there Chris McFeely and fellow Transformers fans. I do apologize for the tardiness of this comment, but when this video was dropped I was busy at work and didn't have the time to check out, until now. Anyways, I just wanted to say thank you for this wonderful new video. I have to admit that I never really heard of this character before and I really enjoyed hearing about this information. I also just wanted to say that Devcon does remind me of either a Transformer version of Captain America or Superman, but that could just be the whole color scheme.
I actually got to meet The Gamblers writer Charles Michael Hill at TFCon in Baltimore. Awesome guy! He really liked the Devcon voice I did for him. I was honored.
I really like my Legacy Devcon. I sort of wish he was a voyager class, but he's great, nevertheless. I took him to TF Con in Orlando and was heartbroken because I lost one of his booster rockets while I was there. I retraced my steps in the hotel parking lot over and over but to no avail. I called Hasbro but they said they had nothing to help me with. Praise God while I was cleaning out my car about 3 months ago (maybe 8-9 months later) and bam! there it was.
Devcon would be perfect for the Missing Link line! I would love to see how a posable Devcon with G1 esthetics would look! He would be a day 1 purchase no questions asked, you hear me Takara 😬
Playing a bounty hunter can be a tricky career choice for Cybertronians as both Autobots and Decepticons can't tell if you are trustworthy since you will work for either faction so long the pay in Energon or oil is good and who pays better. Lockdown is the best example. He worked for both Autobots and Decepticons. But mostly Decepticons because he loved the upgrades they gave him. One time he worked for the Autobots was being hired to capture Decepticons by Sentinel Prime who took credit. Then Lockdown turned on him after the lying Ramjet claimed he can pay him a lot more even though he doesn't have anything for it.
An idea I thought up while watching this video is a comic where devcon faces off against the djd specifically tarn, where devcon learns that going solo has its drawbacks.
As always my friend you bring such rich news to bring some of us hope and closure at least for me. Cause devcon was one of my favorites I would watch the gambler all the time. But did wonder what happen because you do see his partner but hearing this I'm hoping he's coming back too. Dig it 👍
I know Devcon is obscure, but it's also weird for me as none of these obscure characters feel obscure as I have watched the cartoons every day for years and years. Maybe I should watch less and appreciate the obscurity of these characters more! Great video as always. Saturday wouldn't be Saturday without the basics.
Often because they get just about as much screen time as some of the established characters, once you weed out time spent as a background extra form ….

Is Devcon one of the few Autobots to have a jet for an alt mode like Jetfire and Windblade while everyone else has ground vehicles?
Yes but given the environment he works in, it makes sense for him to have an aerial (and thus spaceworthy) alt form in stead of a ground bound form
So he's more comoarable to Kozmo?
