Tragic from such expensive earphones. This guys video won't help this problem. Only made it worse. Thanks man. Cricking. Too funny,
About that clicking noise: I had the same Problem. The noise was not Random, It was at certain low frequencies at mid to high volume. I remember having the same issue with another pair of headphones. and the problem was ... DUST, in my case a little hair on the membrane ! So after resetting it (And you should try the factory reset first because it might no be dust in your case and you could be lucky and it will solve the problem), I CAREFULLY removed the ear cushions and looked at the membrane. I found a little hair on it , and dust on the other side. I carefully removed it by blowing air on it very carefully. If it wont go away you can take a little very soft brush to remove it. It solved the problem ...
Aaron, someone recommended sweet almond oil for the ear pads. It seems to work especially well on artificial leather. I have several over ears, treat them with this oil, wipe the surplus and I have no problems with the pads. None whatsoever. Of course, you have to do it before the cracks appear 😊
I am not 100% sure, but in my opinion this popping/clicking plastic sounds comes from place where hinges hands are connected with cans. These places have a little play, movement between cans and hinges arms is slightly visible, and If you put your headphones on I will find, that moving these parts making this specific noise. I think that we need a easy solution to make this place more fixed, maybe adding some plush material here will help.
nope. thats not it. it may sound to you like that, others may hear footsteps. what you hear is a purely electronic signal. there several possibilitys where an electronic issue can be indeed "solved" by slapping it. another possibility is that it is something hardware that results in that eletroinic loop but unlikely. bottom line is quality of all of these is crap. but well alternatives are rare if you want wireless
I was having this persistent clicking noise in my right ear cup that was driving me crazy, and without music turned up all the way it was making noise canceling unusable, which is the whole point of the headphone. Sure enough the old slap did the trick. Thanks for the fix!
I heard a crackling noise on my left ear cup, like wind passing through. Only when ANC was turned on. Here's what kinda helped. I tried smacking it several times. Pretty hard. No luck. Then I did "forget device" on any device I had it paired to. Then I did the reset by holding down the power and anc buttons for 7 seconds. I don't hear the sound anymore. Sometimes I think I hear it but it might just be my imagination, or it's super soft, definitely not as loud as it was. Evertime I wear them I'm praying it doesn't happen lol. I would've returned but I have a slickwraps decal on them.
I just got the same problem recently with my Sony H.ear On 2, but in the left ear. I just read the Reddit post and followed your link from there. I'm going to give the slap technique a shot soon!
Thanks for the video. I had a few very frustrating months since I started to hear the exact same popping noise. I have sent mine /xm4/ 3 times back for repair. The 3rd time I wrote a letter to the technician and asked them politely to take the time and test it because the issue only appears when the headphone 🎧 are under vibrations. The Sony repair center in the UK was super quick and I received a new unit. /the first 2 repairs were in Hungary because I had to be there for a while. / Thanks for making this video and thanks for talking about this , I believe mechanical issue.
Slapping too hard on the earcup and pushing the earpads deep into the ear is not a good idea if the padding is airtight sealed, the air pressure will push against the driver's diaphragm (which is made of thin plastic film). It can possibly rupture and tear the plastic sheet (diaphragm) and spoil the whole driver making sound all distorted
When sitting next to a fan and using noise cancellation and calling i get wind noise. When calling i get a lot of noise from outside. I can hear my voice like a double voice when i activate inbuilt Alexa. Is this happening with you too?
Thanks! It worked, however I agree with Joseph Mack that this should not happen with a set of earphones as expensive as these. I am going to keep a close eye on this set and a close watch on my return cut off date.
when using cable and noise canceling i can hear a buzz sound all the time. not when using bluetooth. i want to use with cable because i make music with a extern soundcard.
All this talk about cleaning your ear pads is way too much. Just use a microfiber cloth to wipe them off if they get oily. Or if you don’t have one, and your hands are clean and dry, literally just wipe the ear pads with your palm. I did that with my 1000XM2 without issue, and do the same with my 1000XM3. As long as you keep your ears clean, it’s not such a big deal.
btw, if you have cracking sound in the right ear cup you still have to hit the left one (the one with the ANC sign). Slapping on the right airbud is not helping from my experience :)
The slapping worked at the very first try. I am using a sony wb xb 700 Bluetooth earphone. And thanks a lot for saving me from that annoying clicking noice
I get the hissing in the right ear cup when I switch to NC mode. It's the same hiss in the right cup as when you select ambient 1 with focus on voice. If I choose ambient 1 without focus on voice ticked off the hissing in the right goes away
@@jfjfjf agreed. I just couldn't find a fix for it so that was the only option. It still noise cancels in the app (the slider) but just not like full noise cancelling. I since purchased a new pair and gave that pair to my cousin.
I don't even have the same headphoens mine are wired gaming headphones. This trick worked on them. The crackling noise does come back but a light slap fixs it.
I bought the XM3 about a week ago. Emediatly became absolutely addicted and dependant on them. What wizardry! But after a few days they developed a strange behavior. I think it's what you are talking about. In the left ear cup, with ANC on, a white noise builds up that over time changes in nature. It eventually becomes such that it radpidly raises in volume and then stops - over and over (not the same low volume static noise ANC produces, which is OK) It was so frustrating and unacceptable that I returned them. And I actually swapped them for a pair of Bose 700. But they proved to have a whole other issue where they produce a cabin pressure sensation that made my ears HURT! And even my jaw too! Back to the store once again and they willingly swapped again. I wanted to give the XM3's another go. Now I have the second pair. And guess what. They developed the exact same problem as the other ones with less than half a day of use. I thought I found a miracle, instead I got a huge roller coaster of emotions. I'm so disappointed and frustrated. gdi
@@jfjfjf Im sorry you are experiencing this. Hopefully your retailer are as understanding as mine. I kept going back and returned them untill I got a pair that didnt develop this issue. I also wanna say what fixed mine. If you can go in your XBOX and change settings on your hedphones simply turn the bass down and the poping should go away in 1-2 days for it to understand the ingame codes audio or something. TEST THIS!!
I have xm4 and I have the same problem!! Slapping didn’t help :( I approached Sony support and they explained me it’s happening and it’s normal. Wtf, so expensive headphones shouldn’t have this problem at all!
Lmao I just received my headphone after almost one month and I heard crackling noise on it. It freak me out since I never have this kind of problem before. Seller didn't reply back so I search about this and surprisingly the slap works! Finally after a few hours figuring this out. Thanks to whoever that recommend the trick.
Didn't see anyone mentioning but it might be because of low charge. I turn off the headphone and let it charging overnight. No more noises when turning ANC on. Maybe there's something happening when you have low battery left. Give it a shot!
SOLUTION that works on any of 1000XM models. 1. cracking/popping noises - there is some kind of debris stuck on the membrane of the driver on the side your experiencing your issue usually dust or hair. very carefully clean the membrane with wet cloth or qtip, use only water and do not deform or poke the membrane, this will ruin your sound quality and cannot be fixed. there is a big magnet in the middle of each driver so do not use anything that can be attracted by magnets. 2. buzzing noise that can become louder over time and only appears to happen when noise cancelation is on - the magnet has attracted microscopic metal particles and they interfere with the driver producing this humm or buzz, very carefully and gently pick it up using the weakest masking tape / painters tape and clean it same as step 1. be careful not to damage the membrane. 3. the headphones decide to stop charging, appear that the battery is dead - disconnect the battery from the headphones, wait 15 minutes, then connect it while holding the On button. step 1,2 only require to remove the ear cushion and the foam insert. step 3 you need to unscrew 4 screws after doing sterp 1,2 on the right side. if neither of these steps solved your issue, it most likely means something has been damaged and needs to be replaced, further consult with warranty. DO NOT SLAP YOUR EARPHONES. doing so as the uploader demonstrates and so many commenters swear by will only damage your headphones and will void your warranty. it only works temporary because it dislodges the particle stuck on membrane until it gets stuck again producing the same problem. if you blow into the earphone or suck on it you risk ripping the membrane and ruining your headphones.
I have much worse problem, my right headphone starts to make noise as if you bring the microphone closer to the speaker, so annoying, is not happening all the time. Sometimes it helps get rid of the noise if i blow air with my mouth right on ear cup , but it doesn't always help, does anyone know how to fix it? 😭
I just bought this headphone 3 days ago, at first it works fine with no problem at all. Then I noticed the left earcup has this static-hissing-sound when I activated Noise Canceling mode, when I switched to ambient sound mode or ambient sound off the hiss/static sound disappeared. The hissing sound is loud enough to drive you crazy, you still can even hear it when you play a slow/low volume music. Does anyone else experiencing this or it's just a defect on my model?
I have done a replacement. But, the replaced version also has this issue. But the hissing is not very frequent now. May be it will come once in a day. Going for a replacement will be the better option.

I had the same problem with mine. They are a day old XM4 blue and the left side squeaks like crazy. Hitting it didn’t solve it. So I used silicone spay on the earpiece hinge and it’s gone. It’s the hinge that makes the sound
I'm having this issue on the XM4, which I've only owned for 9 days. I love these headphones, but it's irritating that Sony hasn't fixed this issue even with the newer versions of them.
Same here. Got the XM4 a few days. Haven't taken them off, they are so good. But then this annoying scratchy/cracky sound started to happen in right ear cup. Come on Sony! You got a winner on your hand, don't let a silly problem like this ruin the fun.
Sony only has extreme production problems with the over-ear and also with the xm3 and xm4 in-ears. I think I have now bought a total of 8 Sony headphones and had to send in at least four or five of them because they malfunctioned either immediately from the start or within a week or two. Especially noises or had worse sound than the previous model and poorer noise cancellation than the previous model and so on.
I have this problem with a pair of monster inspiration headphones. The left ear cup when put on your head and pushed towards your ear kinda of air tight fit will sound like the air baffle is crackling. The sound from the headphones is still perfect though. If I dont move then they are ok. If I press the left ear piece towards my head there is a crackling noise that happens with the noise cancelling on or off even with the cord pulled out of the none wireless headphones and no batteries in. The left ear piece needs to be forcefully removed and I dont want to break them as they work fine if I can avoid pushing them or fiddling with them on my head.
I got my Sony 1000XM3 headphones mainly to use on my PC. They worked great for about an hour, than they actually made any video on my PC go into slow motion (RUclips videos & videos on my hard drive). Then after about ten minutes of restarting my computer and trying different things, my computer actually froze up completely. But as soon as I would disconnect the headphones in "bluetooth & other devices", "BOOM" everything started working again just fine. Soon as I would reconnect my headphones, my PC froze again. I must add that my computer is brand new, but I did check to see if any sound & video drivers needed updating (they were fine), I did disconnect all other bluetooth devices connected to my PC, but it kept doing the same thing as soon as I would connect the headphones. This issue only occurred when using bluethooth, when I hooked the headphones up using the supplied connector they worked fine, but the whole reason I bought them was because of the wireless feature and the great sound quality. All in all I spent two days researching and trying different things, but I was never able to resolve the issue.
I’m having this problem right now, I just bought these headphones two and a half weeks ago. My problem is in the left ear cup. Please let us know if this happens with the 1000mx4. I will try this for my night walk tonite.

I sent them a request for a replacement headband and their response was the headband is irreplaceable.I am done with Sony.

Mine have a problem it sounds like the speakers are loose, hard to describe but abit like wind noise, like a strange rattle, try shaking your head like your saying no, does anyone elses do this, im going to return to sony , its so bad it does it walking about,
So this is not popping and clicking sound issue. But is it normal for the headphone to make some squeaking noise when you expand the headphone to both sides with 2 hands? Like when you expand it to put on your head. What happened was I spilled some fluid over the headphone. So I unscrewed it and wiped out all fluid. Screw all things back again and now I notice that squeaking sound. I'm not sure if the sound was there before I did some cleaning. Or it is because I messed up some screws.
Some times at night when I use the headphones and turn off the music on the left ear I can hear something like a bug crawling inside of it I don't know what it is or how to explain do u guys have the same problem or know what it is because I don't think a bug can live inside of it it's really confusing me

I had the exact same problem (right ear) and fixed it by removing a small hair that was stuck right on the inside mic. That could explain why it was better or worse when using the "smashing" technique. As the hair was displaced by the shock. And, as it happens only when the noise cancelling is active, i suspected that the mic was involved in a way or another. Anyway, i opened the headphone by removing the earpad and foam (you don't need any tool to do this) and gently remove the hair (i had to use a magnifying glass to see it). I also remove as much dust as possible. Re-assemble the headphone and the headphone works like brand new :') [this avoid smashing the headphone and possibly damaging it] Hope this will help ! :)

You’re welcome 😁
Interesting - I've not noticed any creaking with my Sonys...yet!
Great.. From what i can tell, only some units will have this issue
still not?
They're fine still!
I was about to buy this bro.. cmon , hopefully only certain units
What about now?
So
I'm in the bus rn
I have the same problem
I've slapped my headphone twice
It worked a little, but still here
Caveman slap solved popping for me first try on the left earcup...
Same! The popping was on the left side of my headphone too.
Thanks for making this video and thanks for talking about this , I believe mechanical issue.
For Sony xm3 should be okay to slap on the sides,as the earpads are breathable and not disturb the diaphragm in anyways
Good input there, thanks
Given a slap when the headphones on or off?
When sitting next to a fan and using noise cancellation and calling i get wind noise. When calling i get a lot of noise from outside. I can hear my voice like a double voice when i activate inbuilt Alexa.
Is this happening with you too?
Thanks! It worked, however I agree with Joseph Mack that this should not happen with a set of earphones as expensive as these. I am going to keep a close eye on this set and a close watch on my return cut off date.
I was listening though my poppy mx3s and when you slapped your pair.. IT FIXED MINE AS WELL!
Hey, how long did that solution’s result lasted?
Around 10 seconds for me.
@@CulturalToast OMFG same thing
Slap did not work for me, guess I’ll be returning them tomorrow.
Any update? Did they replaced the unit? Does the new ones have same issue?
Thanks for making me give myself the most satisfying slap I've ever had in public.
my bose 35ii has the same thing on the left ear. and it seems that other people have the same thing. but only sometimes. i hope this will help
when using cable and noise canceling i can hear a buzz sound all the time. not when using bluetooth. i want to use with cable because i make music with a extern soundcard.
Replied you here ruclips.net/video/fbyPB_r4quE/видео.html
All this talk about cleaning your ear pads is way too much. Just use a microfiber cloth to wipe them off if they get oily. Or if you don’t have one, and your hands are clean and dry, literally just wipe the ear pads with your palm. I did that with my 1000XM2 without issue, and do the same with my 1000XM3. As long as you keep your ears clean, it’s not such a big deal.
your hands are full of oil and grease, using your palms is not a good advice
btw, if you have cracking sound in the right ear cup you still have to hit the left one (the one with the ANC sign). Slapping on the right airbud is not helping from my experience :)
The slapping worked at the very first try. I am using a sony wb xb 700 Bluetooth earphone. And thanks a lot for saving me from that annoying clicking noice
who that’s so crazy it seriously worked i slapped the left ear cup that was popping while watching the video and it worked
Same 🙏🏼
I get the hissing in the right ear cup when I switch to NC mode. It's the same hiss in the right cup as when you select ambient 1 with focus on voice.
If I choose ambient 1 without focus on voice ticked off the hissing in the right goes away
Just tried this and it worked spot on. Probably see if I can swap them out with the seller but this is a solid solution for now.
Cheers
Yeah the hissing goes away but so does the noise cancelling effect.... the whole reason i bought these puppies
@@jfjfjf agreed. I just couldn't find a fix for it so that was the only option. It still noise cancels in the app (the slider) but just not like full noise cancelling. I since purchased a new pair and gave that pair to my cousin.
Hi, i have a question, can we acitivate noise cancellation with audio cable when is plug in a pc without bluetooth ?
Thanks
Yes you can
@@aaronloudnwireless thanks !
you're welcome!
I'm so disappointed and frustrated. gdi
I forgot to mention that I tried the caveman-method and it did not work.
@@Tripleyou having the same issue you described. any fix?
@@jfjfjf Im sorry you are experiencing this. Hopefully your retailer are as understanding as mine. I kept going back and returned them untill I got a pair that didnt develop this issue. I have 1000MX3 today that I have had for 6 months with zero issues and I love them. I hope it works out for you too
I also wanna say what fixed mine.
Already returned my headphone 2 times and still have the same problem. Coincedence??? I think not.
Didn't see anyone mentioning but it might be because of low charge. I turn off the headphone and let it charging overnight. No more noises when turning ANC on. Maybe there's something happening when you have low battery left. Give it a shot!
Nope, happens at 80-90% charge with mine
I have the Ch ones and I had a click on my right and I’m guessing that’s the same thing you were having
Yes it should be chungachungachunga
I have much worse problem, my right headphone starts to make noise as if you bring the microphone closer to the speaker, so annoying, is not happening all the time. Sometimes it helps get rid of the noise if i blow air with my mouth right on ear cup , but it doesn't always help, does anyone know how to fix it? 😭
Wooow it just started happening on wh-1000mx2 and it actualy worked too...
Does anyone else experiencing this or it's just a defect on my model?
i am having this issue. Are you able to resolve ?
@ilhamdudi i have the same issue bro, how's it going now?
Org indokah jg?
I have done a replacement. But, the replaced version also has this issue. But the hissing is not very frequent now. May be it will come once in a day.
Going for a replacement will be the better option.
A very light slap on my XM4 worked, at least for now, thanks to the reddit post and this video
whose who have brought and used Sony WH-1000XM4, do you guys ever faced situation when you active ANC, there's buzzing sound from left or right side?
Any tips to fix it?
Slap it press it reset it it’ll still happen just not as frequent I’m getting these loud high pitch random noises if that’s what u mean
@@Ginger-g4b thanks, but i dont think its working.
@@soufiekhairuddin9118 yo blow in it like if you grab the one where it’s making the noise and feel around inside with ur finger you’ll feel a small gap blow into that it fixed mine
Thank you. I have seen thousands of complaints about static noise and I just canceled my purchase
Hey thanks for making this video, it was driving me crazy and this is the first thing I found when I tried to look for a solution. Now if I could fix more things by slapping them...
Just commented to say the slap trick actually worked. Crazy.
Yea it’s insane
I have (had) the same problem with my xm4's and the slap technique still works!
I had the same problem with mine. They are a day old XM4 blue and the left side squeaks like crazy. Hitting it didn’t solve it. So I used silicone spay on the earpiece hinge and it’s gone. It’s the hinge that makes the sound
This problem is also happening in Wh-1000 XM5!
That slap trick works but it’s gonna come back after few hours. Came back in mine!
2 days after opening my xm4s and got the problem. Slapping it made it worse... even moving my eyebrows makes a loud popping sound... worth the try...
The left ear piece needs to be forcefully removed and I dont want to break them as they work fine if I can avoid pushing them or fiddling with them on my head.
youre a legend. My new xm5's started making a noise - a frim slap to the cup sorted it out 👍👍
What do you think of the Sony mx4??
I talked about it here ruclips.net/video/f1eVm2slD5I/видео.html
It's xm4..
All in all I spent two days researching and trying different things, but I was never able to resolve the issue.
did you solve it?
@@jx8148 Nope never did.
@@fourbyfourer wow
How can I clean the inner of the earpad without destroying the soft material?
Thank you very much
Still using 1000 xm1 and solved the pop issue by cleaning external microphones as well as headphones with an electric air duster.
I’m having this problem right now, I just bought these headphones two and a half weeks ago. My problem is in the left ear cup. Please let us know if this happens with the 1000mx4. I will try this for my night walk tonite.
I noticed Sony has a way of making difficult to get to the support you need. I have the same problem. The )@*#$%*&) that I talked to said it was the first time he heard of this problem. I sent them a request for a replacement headband and their response was the headband is irreplaceable.I am done with Sony.
My clicking always happend In the car. I was traveling today and the clicking was driving me nuts! I can't believe this solved the issue... But for how long! 🤬 Annoying how Sony's website suggest just turning ANC off. Not acceptable for £300 headphones.
Just incredible

I didn't even have to slap mine, after watching this video it was fixed haha thanks I guess
Re-assemble the headphone and the headphone works like brand new :')
[this avoid smashing the headphone and possibly damaging it] Hope this will help ! :)
:O omg that i-i so cleaning the with a q-tip works
@@rrtttfthxg2143 It worked for me (i have to add that i also removed a small hair on the membrane. So there was two of them. It's been more than a week now. i use the headphone everyday and not a single clicking since the cleaning :)
@@theviperkid1 yeah smart its probably was the microphones picking up the sound and transporting it.

Mine is different... the popping sound started very quietly and as I leave it on longer, it becomes louder T.T However when i turn it off for like a day and turn it back on again it's quiet again :D BUUTTT AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT STARTs AGAIN! The Slapping didn't really work :/ What should I do....? I got this problem after using it on the airplane.......
i am having this same issue on my left side. now i will try this funny fix. :)
Solution :- leave them on a "Table" (and don't try to make headphone in a position where earcup is covered)or you can take them in a "Headphone Stand" while power is on & most important noise cancellation is on . So it takes hardly 2 mins to get rid of that cracking voice .this is how everytime i get rid of that & solution based on lots of people who have this problem with their sony headphone
Okay my problem is very hard to describe but I’ll try my best. So, if my hand accidentally brushes or touches the right side of the headphones I get this very loud static/error sound and it doesn’t stop until I turn off the headphones and turn them back on. I’m talking like a very loud buzzing/ sound almost like when you buzz into an apartment or like an amber alert, really weird stuff and it’s annoying as hell
Just bought these headphones a few weeks ago and has been a problem since day 2, kinda mad I dropped $350 on these
