    Amazing training and so willing to follow commands for treats! Please, please create a training/tutorial I would think that it would get so many hits. Dog and trainer are amazing!!!!

    I wish you the best of luck on your training, and thank you for your comment. As far as how I taught mine all her tricks, it was all about consistency. When I teach her new tricks I make sure she has already had a chance to get out all of her energy by running at the park. Then we do 3 sessions a day at 5 mins per session. Usually within 4-7 days of that regimen she figures out when I'm looking for. I'd also suggest to only give positive praise and practice patience. Hope this helps!!

      Not sure if you still read the comments, but I was wondering what your work schedule is like? Thinking about getting a min pin, but I will likely have a 9-5 work schedule and wondering if it's possible.

Watching you two inspired me to start up again now that I have the time. We don't let the "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" saying keep us from learning new things! Min pins are some of the most loving dogs you’ll ever meet. They will literally be at your hills 24/7 to assist you and be with you and protect you. I always thought maybe they have more of a “pack dog” instinct and treat you like a member of the pack. Mine will follow you around everywhere and it hates being alone for a minute. It will go after anything without fear to. Only bad thing.

  • @jmarti134
    @jmarti134  12 лет назад +5

    Thank you for the comment! So the first step to getting Lex to walk on her hands was getting her on the couch. I then lured her with food to walk her front paws off the couch and onto the ground, and keep her back legs on the couch. Then click. Step 2, was to get her to step away from the couch with her front legs, just enough so she had to kick her back legs off the couch, then click right when back paws left the couch. We practiced 5 mins at a time, 3 times a day, and she got it in a week

    Really?! Yours has the pink nose too?!?!? U sure have a special one on your hands. As for the obedience, it was A LOT of time, energy, and patience. I started to teach her to heel immediately after I got her and kept up with training 3x a day for her first year. Just a heck of a lot of dedication. My real close friends say I'm obsessed, and that I treat her better than my human friends. And theyre proby right, but dogs embody unconditional love like no other!!

    Thanks for watching and I think that male or female, the min pin breed takes a very patient and innovative owner. It took about a year to get a full repertoire of tricks, but we are always tryin new tricks too, so the training never stops. Clicker training was great for lex, maybe it might b helpful with your new pup. Good luck.

    Really a beautiful dog! I have a 12 year old black and tan min pin named Gus. He's a sweetie, but the "ttricks" I've taught him are more like a) don't bark at every SINGLE movement made outside the window; b) if you pee in the house do it on a puppy pad. But I got him when he was 7 as a rescue dog, so I'm thrilled he learned those things at least!

    wow! impressive! my min pin knows some tricks (sit, down, wait, twirl, take a bow, speak, high five, wave, etc) but he gets sooo CRAZY FOR TREATS, it was hard for him to keep learning. when he knows it's treat/trick time, he just starts doing every trick he knows. he's still smart though. i'm still always told that he is very well behaved and trained compared to other min pins people have known.

    Inspired again by your success I have successfully taught my 6 year old Minpin to lay down on commend. Ok so there is a long way to go lol and it is a small success but I'll take it! What I find amusing about how Minpins perform their trucks is WHEN they "Get It", they perform them with abrupt intensity.

  • @DeptOfLawEnforcement
    @DeptOfLawEnforcement 9 лет назад +5

    Your dog is exactly like our MinPin was, he hated that painful shock collar/harness, but he LOVES his leash, in fact he loves it so much that he picks it up and drags it around the house in his mouth until we take him to the park for a walk. We never used a shock collar on him after a similar incident when he was a puppy. We've had him for over 11 years now, they're the absolute best dog breed in the world!! And while the toddler years can be a challenge, it only gets better from there on out. It's very important to never punish your Min Pin, whether physically by use of shock collars or by shouting at them, doing so will turn them against you, make then psychotic or destroy trust, forever wounding your dog's confidence, I've seen hand-shy Min Pins have to be put down because their owners used shock collars on their pets (note: shock collars are banned in many countries, it is flat-out animal abuse). MinPins are sensitive and endearing creatures, and extremely loyal to good owners. If you treat them with love and respect, they will defend you to the death if challenged to do so. Our MinPin is an integral part of our family unit, we cannot imagine a single day without him, both here at home, and on special occasions when he gets to go on ride-alongs in my police cruiser for the day. :)

      My min Pin is the same. He is 7 years old and I do yell at him sometimes. He is my emotional support animal and he responds to my panic attacks (caused by my parents or doctors offices). I am 13 and love him to death. With out him I will be a mess. I recently took a 2 week vacation to London with my family and I had been getting in to trouble a lot more weather it was my fault of not I was the one to blame. Usually when this happens I go crying to him and he will paw me when I'm covering my face or my hands are crossed. He is what keeps me out of trouble and in to success. He has gotten loose and went after the mail man when I was about 9 and the mailman started to pepper spray him so I jumped in front and took some of it strait to the face. I have saved him from many big dog attacks including, Pitbull mix, some sort of long haired dog that looked like a rotwiler but it was not and many many more. In January he got attacked my the long haired rotwiler looking dog, He escaped from inside and ran out to a Grassy area in-between town house. The fence was knocked down by Hurricane Irma. He came growling and snapping at my dog attacking him and I started to swing him to avoid the other dog and thank god my dog got loose and he was able to go around the corner and wait. The dog tried to chase after but I tried to grab him and my fingers got stuck in a Knott in his hair so I grabbed him and gave him to the owner. My dog was not hurt, my dad and grandma just watched me do this the whole time:( Thank you for leaving this comment and I now will never yell at him or scold him again and continue to protect my best friend:)

    Its great to hear your concern, that means you pup is gonna have a great home! I honestly don't remember the portions I gave her as a pup, but your vet should definitely have that answer. Also the puppy food should have suggestions on the bag. Feeding 2 to 3 times a day is a good idea when they are young. What I can suggest is not to over feed. Min pins are notorious for over eating. Feeding directly from you hand is cool too, cuz it reinforces your roll as provider.

    Her name is Lex. I use her dog food for training. I don't "free feed" her; so I don't use a bowl for her to eat whenever she wants. Some people naturally think their dog should just GET food cause they are part of the family, problem is, dogs don't think like humans. I learned this from reading a Cesar Milan book. He explains how and why this practice strengthens the dog/owner bond. One reason is that Lex feels good about herself that she EARNS her food! Its all about the pack leader mentality.

    The best tip I have for a min pin owner when trick training is to have a visual idea in your mind as to how your dog will perform the trick. Reward anything that resembles your mind's visualization. Your dog will be happy to continue the learning process if it knows it is doing good (the good is the reward/treat/play). The min pin learns very fast so it is necessary to reward any desired behavior/trick immediately to clearly mark a job well done.

    Well done! Our min pin can't do a fraction of the things your beautiful dog can, but she's an awesome dog anyway :) Best breed in the world.

    That is the main reason of having a pet, to love it like a family member. My pin can't do any tricks he is now 7 years old I love him like my best friend every morning I wake up with him next to me on my pillow, i couldn't imagine my life without him :D btw there is no better dogs than pins

    I have say, you have done an amazing job training your dog. I don't think I've ever seen a dog as trained as that one. Do you have any videos to show how you trained her?

    I hear you about the house training. Min pins are notorious for being tough to potty train. Just know you are not alone. I went through it too. Best feedback I can give you is to make the biggest deal possible when your min pin gets it right. I used to jump up and down, and praise Lex like crazy when she would do her business in the right place. Best of luck

    What an awesome min pin and owner :) I have a min pin mix (shelter rescue), but darn if I can see anything but min pin in him, both looks and attitude. Have you thought about doing agility with Lex? With the wonderful bond you've established already, she seems well suited to doing great things with agility.
