They need to bring investors to Orion..It's got alot of potential for growth ..and considering it's history...It deserves to be more populated..and grow ....🌸
My favorite place in Alberta. Try to visit every year and chat with Boyd. Cried when I saw the storefront gone. There was a lot of history in that building. Thank god Boyd didn't get hurt. And he's back in town!
Love this documentary. I actually live in the area. I would love to see more like this with other small town in the Orion area. Believe it or not but there a lot of rich history in the gold prairies
I always enjoy any chance i have to visit orion when I am in the area (not very often unfortunately). I was there this year and noticed Stevens Garage was gone. A quick google and i learned it burned down Christmas 2016 (I had previously been there in April 2016 and took many photos). It was nice to see Boyd Stevens in the video as the news accounts of the fire only mentioned that he was taken to the hospital in Medicine Hat but nothing beyond that.
Love the history here, its kind of interesting when you are able to still see these structures. My girlfriend and I went out to Crowsnest Pass last week and it has quite the history out there (Just not very many structures). I did know about the Frank slide accident but I never knew about some of the other tragic mining accidents in the area. The Hillcrest cemetary is pretty interesting to go wander around in. Awesome vid though this place is on my list to go see now!
Thanks for watching, I appreciate the support! Also glad you are out there checking out some old spots, it can be a lot of fun to learn about Alberta's past. If you go to Orion, say hello to Boyd, he's great.
Hey Paul, thanks for watching! Didn't get a chance to explore much this year, I have been working on other projects. I will return to videos eventually, so check the channel every so often.
I was born in Medicine Hat in 1945. My family lived in Orion until 1950. My Dad used to fly his Piper Cub to The Hat the house Dad built was 50% standing in the early 1990s. My aunt is buried in Orion. It was her wish to be returned to Orion after her service to The Ivory Coast for 55 years. All of my uncles and aunts have died. The last uncle died in July, 2023.
@@mitchellrowley8663 send me an email, would like to hear what you think is worth checking out down there that hasn't shown up in my research kelsynorman@gmail.com
Thanks for watching! I have no idea what "Still Standing" is. I called it "Still Here" because whenever I am in Orion, and the residents talk about how people come there and think the place is abandoned, they often express some variation of, 'we're still here'.
Yea, my goal is to put out two Calgary focused videos this year, along with one video focusing on a location in Southern Alberta. I get really busy with my day job, plus I had to upgrade my gear, but now I am ready to get back out there and put together some good stuff for you folks.
I know I should, and I will, just not now. I like making videos, but I am currently working on a podcast project. That, plus I teach, and coach basketball, so not a lot of time to make videos unfortunately.
CLEAVER TITLE Sir... it could refer to You being Still Active on RUclips or about Orion, Alberta. Mr. Kelsy & Wife, I think you should do a Collaboration Video with Friends semi-local Channel called "Curiosity Inc." - Angel (Calgary Girl Rider)
I'm sorry to hear that Kelsy as I would also like to offer to help work on a video or project with you two YouTubbers. Are you familiar with the Channel "Curiosity Inc." from Edmonton do you see how your interest are similar.? :-) BTW: I am Angel from Calgary and share some common ground with your Wife Sir :-)
I am just really busy with teaching 10 months of the year, so I kind of plug away at the video stuff at my own pace. If that channel is interested in working with me, have them contact me directly, thanks.
Hey, thanks for watching. I went to Manyberries but didn't have time to explore. I will look around the next time I'm there, anything else I should check out while I am in the area?

Very cool. My great grandfather was Axel Mattson -- had no idea he was the local postmaster back when Orion was named "Needmore"

Eventually if you have time you should do a video on Alsask. That place use to have a military base. Must have a lot to say about that place.
I've heard of it, looks like a cool place to explore!
Great video!
Is "Still Here" a nod to the CBC show "Still Standing"?
