Imagine if you ran a company where the staff only work 50 or 60% of the time - and only produce 50 or 60% of the products they were employed to make. And on top of that they demand a full salary at the end of the month - and when the company runs out of money - they demand a pay increase. That's Eskom for you - and we are the people paying their salaries.

12 hours per day, every day, is actually Stage 8. It shows it clearly on the ESP app. I think the loadshedding schedule is a bit more complex than what you are aware of. At Stage 6 we will get shed three times per day, varying between 2 and 4 hours each time, meaning 8-10 hours of loadshedding per day (Stage 6 is 36 hours of loadshedding per 4-day period).

Uhhm, the reason some European nations are reverting to fossil fuels is due to the natural gas pipeline from Russia that those countries heavily relied upon. However, due to the war and Russia shutting the flow of gas these nations are left with no other choice.
South Africa having perfect conditions for solar and wind turbines, I can tell you that we would be in a much better space right now if the R1 billion rand that is apparently stolen from Eskom every month due to corruption was instead invested into renewable power generation.

Is it really that difficult to implement feed-in and/or net-metering? Surely the excess being generated by residential and business rooftop solar installs can make a significant cumulative dent in the shortfall during daytime at least, and reduce the economic impact on businesses? We'd still have loadshedding through the night, but that's at least better than the status quo... Perhaps government could look at pumped storage (using the daytime excess power to pump water into hydro dams for use at night) to supplement evening production as well?

    1. That he does not quite grasp how the electricity works.
    2. He is just continuing his master's ( Cyril / anc ) corruption and theft.
    3. He is quite lazy & dim.

Solar won't fix the problem. South Africa's peak electricity demand is about 6 to 7 pm WHEN THE SUN IS NOT SHINING!
At a peak earlier this week all of the PV (solar panels) were producing a total of 67MW. That is just over 1% of the nameplate capacity.
Even if all the solar panels in the world were added to the SA grid it would not keep the lights on.
By June it will be dark at peak power time and the solar panels will produce zero.
So, fine, install solar panels - as much as you want. But you have a choice: go "green" or have electricity. You can't have both.
