Hey QualityOldGames ! Do you think it would be interesting to compare the efficiency of various hoplite and pike units with and without phalanx formation ? I know there's basically no point to having this information because you are heavily incentivized to never use hoplites outside of phalanx but still I'm a little curious ! Thanks for the vid and for your resilience in making them, i'm not getting tired of this format :)
Thanks for the comment. Actually, some of those tests are already done. ;) Links below: ruclips.net/video/hI0snrwgfv4/видео.html ruclips.net/video/k6sy5dE7tf0/видео.html ruclips.net/video/44NUX3tqATI/видео.html ruclips.net/video/iRGTOX5LLaE/видео.html
Historically what made the Spartiates(Spartan citizens) so good compared to other greek Militias wasnt their skill at arms but it was their innovative and superior military organization, logistics, psychological warfare and propaganda. Spartan citizens were the tallest fittest healthiest and most disciplined of greeks add in the cohesion they had thanks to their brotherhood among the members of their syssitia and their use of psychological warfare(military uniforms, long but well groomed hair and beard, their silence and stoicism in battle and them incorporating poetry and dance in the phalanx where Spartan citizens would march and move accordingly to the rhytm of flutes and them chanting poetry during battle)add in the myth they created out of the heroic sacrifice of the greeks and now we know why the Spartan army was the best citizen militia of its time. All of these were by products of the agoge which wasnt about military training at all it was a state funded public education designed to create citizens capable of fullfiling all their civic duties from politics to diplomacy to serving in the civic army to taking part in olympic games. the stats in rome total war are too op but still fun and can be applicable to the artistically exagerrated Spartans of 300.
Upgraded urban is insane. Considering the fact that the spartans aren't dealing enough damage in the front and getting flanked to high heaven, I wonder how well they will perform without phalanx under the same condition.
Именно поэтому их надо окружать и расстреливать в спину, с 3 брони от халата их 2 хитпойнта особо не спасают. Еще и выглядят они нелепо в этих балахонах, играя за греков я чисто из принципа не брал этих клоунов.
Just more reasons for me to start hating how disgustingly OP the Spartans are. Maybe it's because I long outgrew the teenage love I had for them and see them in a more neutral light but I hate the hard on CA had for these guys to the point the only thing keeping them from breaking the game was by making them only available in two settlements in the campaign.
Eh i dont think theyre that good. In rtw theres plenty more op units. Sure in a vacuum theyre the strongest phalanx at melee but they have many downsides not just the region exclusivity. 2 turns to train, really not cost effective, countered by missiles harder than any other high tier phalanx, and theyre the only worthwhile unit the greeks have besides armored hoplites who are infinitely more useful most of the time. They were never meta in multiplayer either, where they dont even have the region lock or recruitment to worry about
@ When they can beat most of the Roman roster outside of Phalanx, counter cavalry better than any other Phalanx unit even when they charge them in the back and can beat even the strongest Roman infantry unit when outnumbered, than yeah, they are overpowered. I know full well they are held back by cost, recruitment time, and build requirement, beside their two-region lock, but that just feels like the devs having to overcorrect for making them so strong in the first place. plus thanks to their shield and two hitpoints they do not suffer more from missiles as they should. All in all even if they are not as useful in multiplayer they are still OP even in campaign and would have been more interesting if they were a bit weaker so they could be less braindead to play.
Nah their cool its just people misunderstand them and what they really were and what they truly excelled at as a civilization the mainstream view of them is far removed from reality. their pretty fun to play with in Rome total war but i understand in frustration.
I’m actually shocked at how much better upgraded Urbans performed. Quantity = More men flanking the phalanx = better results was obvious, I thought.
Then again, in the first match-up, the Phalanxes' flanks were better secured, which helped them quite a bit :) Thanks for the comment.
None can withstand the most powerful of all battlefield tactics...

THE MOON-WALKING PHALANX
Indeed :D Thanks for the comment.
suprised that the upgrades had such an impact!
Yea, they can be quite impressive :) Thanks for the comment.

Thank You for the interesting historical information :)

Thanks for the comment. Well, that would be quite a bit worse :)
5 против 7 -впечатляющий бой ,второй тоже по накалу не уступал .Мой вывод: спартанцы -великие войны и они это доказали )
Agreed on that :) Thanks for the comment.

Quality over quantity I suppose

Thanks for the comment. I guess it was because they wanted to make Spartans cool (for teenage love) ;)
