Non-profits today can’t get away with saying “we have transformed thousands of lives, and helped many people.” It’s a lovely sentiment but today we need real definition and data instead of easy, inspiring rhetoric. Like “In what measurable and immeasurable ways are people transformed? In what ways was their transformation sustainable long term? In what direct and indirect ways have you helped people? What have you done to reconcile broken families and heal divided communities. In what specific ways are you welcoming immigrants and strangers among us, as the Bible teaches?” Inspire us with your real works as well as your faith. Churches and their mission must be as accountable as any other non-profit, tax exempt organization.
