If you watched the whole game, you'd realize this was the culmination of an entire half of home cooking for Duke by the officials as is so often the case
Fair had three steps in the lane before Hood had position! That's his basket! The problem was Boeheim going nuts like that, with his assistant coaches pulling him back too late!
@@thescatman5029 It does not matter how many steps the ball carrier has in this case. It only matters that the defender has legal guarding position. He gains this by having both feet on the floor, and facing his torso towards the ball carrier. He does this even before he slides sideways out from behind the other offensive player. Once a player has legal guarding position, he is allowed to move in any direction but towards the ball carrier. He is allowed to move sideways into the ball carrier's path.
Goat_Filipino: Yeah, sucks to see a heavy weight fight like this end this way. Whether one thinks a charge should have been called in that spot or not, bottom line is that Coach B cost his kids a chance to win this game. Refs were then left with no real choice I guess when a Coach in out that far on the court going nuts. Can't damn him for his passion, but can fault him a ton for lack the self control to realize he wasn't helping his team, but hurting it.
00:16 - Look at this. Does it look like the feet are outside of the arc? You could say that. But the rules say that you have to have a specific distance away from the arc, I thought...and it's weird.
One can debate all day whether this was the right call or not. Even with the charge call CUSE would have still had a chance to win this game. Coach B cost his team a chance to win this game by getting the Tech Fouls. Great to have passion for the game and to defend your kids, but obviously you gotta show more self-control than that. Mind you, I love Coach B, but that's a moment I'm sure he'd like to have back.
That’s a great call from a great referee. His feet were indeed set and his hands were straight up. His hands did not come down. That was indeed a charge/player control foul.
Watch it again. The Duke player was leaning to get the contact and the Syracuse player was trying to avoid the contact. No call or even a blocking foul on Duke . It was not an offensive foul.
@@Christopher-jk9bj That’s not the rule. Legal guarding position must be established, the defender may then move sideways, backwards, or obliquely to maintain LGP. There is no requirement for the defender to keep his feet stationary.
Watch the Duke player lean to initiate contact as the Syracuse player is sliding past avoiding contact. Definitely not a charge but Duke is use to getting all the calls.
@@carwrtr1 100% correct He was in position BEFORE he left the ground. The announcer is WRONG. The feet don't have to be set . All he needs is position before the player leaves the ground
Coaches reaction was gold
Vitale: "Aw, come on, there's times when you have to let a coach call you a twelve-letter "m" word because you blew a call!"
In nearly 1400 games JB has only been ejected once. Now that's stellar composure. HFC for a reason.
What’s HFC?
@@kane7523 don't remember. Maybe it was for Head F'n Coach.

Cope. Duke haters are so predictable. "WAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!! THE REFS!!!!!"
That coach was pissed as freakin hell right Patrick?
The raft got paid under the table by Joe Blair was still move on his feet shut up from Syracuse at the free-throw line
My favorite memory of Boeheim, along with the 6OT game in the Big East tourney.
coach K has got many technicals in his career.
Man I’m still trying to figure out was it more fun at Duke or Syracuse?
Toney Green. I thought the call was correct. And these announcers do not know the officiating rules.
Questionable call, but, as Bill Raftery said during the Elite 8 many years ago when Larry Eustacy got canned, "Where are the assistants?"
The Scatman nothing " questionable " a out it.the defender had position BEFORE the player with the ball left the floor.good call

TV broadcast didn't show the replay.
I'm a duke fan but I wish the game didn't end like that
I can understand the ref giving him a tech but ejecting him smh
A coach coming onto the court like that usually results in an ejection
+francobobfred exactly that's why Dick needs to retire with Bob Huggins Mike Davis & others do it they are gone.
They really didn't have a choice on that one

The call is correct, the official was in proper position to make the call, and the defender was in legal position.

Yeah. I’d definetly say his feet were not set.

Clearly that was a defensive foul, totally controversial. These referees need to learn to open their eyes. I don't blame Jim Boeheim.
