  • My hair transplant surgeon tried to warm me that getting off of finasteride was going to be a huge mistake!
Getting off finasteride after a hair transplant can be a mistake for several reasons:
Continued Hair Loss: Finasteride is effective at slowing or stopping hair loss by reducing the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that contributes to male pattern baldness. If you stop taking finasteride, DHT levels can increase, leading to continued hair loss in the areas of your scalp that were not transplanted. This can make your overall hair density decrease, leading to an uneven appearance over time.
Protecting Transplanted Hair: While transplanted hair is generally resistant to DHT, the surrounding native hair is not. Discontinuing finasteride can lead to the loss of your existing hair, which might make the transplanted hair look more isolated or patchy, undermining the aesthetic results of the transplant.
Long-Term Results: Finasteride helps maintain the overall health of your hair, and stopping it may compromise the long-term success of the hair transplant. The newly transplanted hair might stand out more against thinning or balding areas if the surrounding hair continues to thin.
Risk of Needing Additional Procedures: If you stop finasteride and experience significant hair loss afterward, you might find yourself needing additional hair transplant procedures to maintain a full appearance, which can be costly and time-consuming.
In summary, continuing finasteride after a hair transplant helps to preserve your natural hair and maintain a consistent, fuller look. Stopping the medication can reverse these benefits, leading to potential dissatisfaction with the overall outcome.
If you're considering transplant surgery I suggest you text or call my friend Steve Cook. Steve is a wealth of information, and the most knowledgable and honest person I've met in the hair restoration business.

Hair transplant surgery is a procedure designed to address hair loss or thinning by relocating hair follicles from one part of the body (known as the donor site) to a bald or thinning area (known as the recipient site).
The often most overlooked part of hair transplant surgery is getting on (beforehand) and staying on preventative hair loss medication. Without the continued use of the best and most effective medication available surgery is often in vain, and ones results will be worse a few years later than if they'd never had surgery at all.

Want to lock in your hair today and reach peak hair regrowth? You need Locklab.co ...and for a limited time use the code FF50 for half off your first order! I take Locklab, my brothers take Locklab, and most of my closest friends are on it as well.

I’ve had friends who have had severe side effects from finasteride, these are genuine people. To dismiss the side effects and say they don’t exist I feel it’s irresponsible.
I myself use topical fin for 7 years with minimal sides, but I don’t discount anyone’s else’s experiences. It’s clear that some ppl do get sides, medications affect ppl in different ways, ppl need to understand the risks.

Yes, I completely agree that medication affects different people in different ways. And therefore virtually any side effect/allergic reaction of sorts is possible from virtually any medication. It’s all anecdotal though until those side effects are documented and statistically analyzed in third party placebo controlled trials. I also have friends that swear to me that they have seen ghosts. Have you ever met someone who in general you trust, but that person has told you ghost stories that they wholeheartedly believe in? Maybe my friends really have seen ghosts. I don’t want to tell my friends that they are liars. And I don’t wanna believe they are liars either. But until there is someway of documenting what they have experienced, it is probably not wise for me to go about living my life based on that information as being truthful and meaningful.

Agree for most part. I had bad itchiness when i started it resolved it by reducing it too every other day. I did notice i little bit more down on myself when i took it daily. Dosage matters for many.

I was totally bald like yourself, I’ve had my first HT with just over 2000 graft, hair line, nearly a year ago. I’m having my second 2000 graft HT in a few weeks,on top, then another about 6-8 months later, crown.Should I start taking medication after the third HT or start after the second one. Any advice would be appreciated.

@@GetLocklab thanks for the reply. I live in England, so I can not get you’re medication in that form. I can’t believe how much hair you have from being bald. Is that all natural hair or do you have some kind of spray on there ?
