Bathsheba the Witch, formerly known as Bathsheba Sherman, was the horrific specter that haunted the farmhouse that belonged to the Perron family in The Conjuring. Although Bathsheba is the main antagonist of the story, many viewers are not aware of her colorful history, or the meaning behind many of the paranormal events seen in the movie.
Unlike Valak in The Conjuring 2, Bathsheba is based off of a real person, who was rumored to be involved in witchcraft in the 1800s. In this video, I'll be using the history of the real Bathsheba Sherman to fill in the blanks about the movie character Bathsheba. I'll also be analyzing her entire story, including the possible origin of her name and how she made a mockery of religious ideas as part of her Satanic agenda.
Finally, I'll look at how she might influenced certain events later in the Conjurverse continuity like what she might have been up to after The Conjuring.

Bathsheba's name means daughter of the covenant in Hebrew. Bath means daughter. Another way to remember this is that Jewish people have bar mitzvahs for their sons and bat mitzvahs for their daughters to celebrate their respective becoming men and women in their society.
Any woman named Bathsheba was supposed to be a promised daughter in the eyes of God. This would make any victory that the devil had over her soul that much more "great". I mean "great" as in large or immense. I use it in a pejorative sense.
Bathsheba was the name of the woman who was blamed for King David's downfall. David, the same who slayed Goliath and became king after Saul, saw Bathsheba bathe naked while he was on the rooftop. He lusted after her, called her in and despite her being married to another man, David and Bathsheba slept together several times.
Bathsheba told David she was pregnant with his child. David wanted to cover his sin, so, he told Uriah (Bathsheba's husband who was a commander in David's army) to go home from the war and fuck his own wife. Uriah refused because he felt it was better for him to fight the war to protect Israel. David became annoyed by Uriah so he arranged for the soldiers to go with Uriah into battle and then withdraw their support so that Uriah would inevitably be killed by their enemies.
Long story short, Bathsheba becomes another one of David's wives. She has the baby, but it dies and David is punished by God and is chastized by Nathan, the prophet. David's family would later be cursed where so many terrible things would happen. His son would develop incestuous feelings towards his sister and would rape David's daughter. His other son would kill the rapist son. It was just a horrible, horrible mess. David would lose his political power and his family and kingdom were torn asunder.
So, Bathsheba became a name for a woman of covenant or promise to God but then commit a devastating sin.
God punished David by killing the baby of Bathsheba and David. So, in the movie, a witch binding herself to Satan by killing children seems significant to point out. In Christian/Jewish traditions, a woman's greatest role is being a co-creator and bringing children to this world and so to do the reverse would be one of the worst sins to make.

The way I saw it, when Bathsheba invades the Warren's house, she only went, when the locket was left at the farmhouse, creating a connection to the one in Judy's room. As for Bathsheba appearing with the Annabelle doll, I see that as her kinda borrowing Malphas' strength for the upcoming possession.

Bathsheba has her own strength she dosen't another demon's strength she just was holding the annabelle doll so she can team up with malphas but bathsheba mostly used her strength since she hates when people invade her land, so she is ready also a bonus the scene when bathsheba was on the wardrobe and when she jumped on the girl scared the hell out of she is definetly my favorite ghost in the conjuring universe

    • @ahardy7837

I think it was purely just Malthus pulling judy’s leg the next year as it makes no sense as to why Bathsheba would have been caught in the music box. I think the ghost trapped in the music box is Rory and Bathsheba was just banished back to hell.

    • @Phantas43
      @Phantas43 5 месяцев назад +1

OK... Batsheba's spirit can travel to Judy bcs of the locket, and the doll attracts Bathsheba bcs of the spiritual power emanating from it (bcs of Malthus being latched onto it). Naturally, an evil with like BS would be drawn to it , especially if it has demonic power. It is unlikely that Bathsheba would be allowed to use Malthus' power, however, she might have struck a bargain with him, being the evil witch she is, to perhaps use a fraction of Malthus' intelligence and power to do whatever is needed to get to Judy.
Bathsheba however, is ultimately banished and it is Malthus who uses the Annabelle doll as his way of misleading people to get close to them. Since it began as a little girl's doll, Malthus has a thing for young girls...

So my mom bought a house YEARS ago, and I just remember HATING it. No matter how sunny it was, it always seemed dark and depressing, I never felt truly alone, and shit was always breaking around the house. Sadly, my stepdad ended up having a random alcoholic-based mental break and completely fell apart, leading to their split and selling of that house not even 3 years after they had bought it. I was super upset about their relationship failing, but honestly psyched she moved.
Years later, when The Conjuring came out, I found out that that house was 3 down from my mom's old, spooky house, & that we were on the original land. I just remember feeling vindicated about every eerie, uncomfortable feeling I had ever had. That house has had new owners for like 2 years, and they sell tours and overnight stays... But they're trying to sell it now, too. I don't think they even live there. The old owners had chains and shit up around the driveway so no one could trespass.

Why was 6 afraid of 7? It's a fairly common question, mostly because when people see 6 and 7 next to each other, it doesn't really make sense. 6 is large, muscled, and trained in multiple martial arts, while 7 is fairly average, physically, and short. However, 6's fear of 7 has its roots in childhood. See, 6 and 7 grew up together, and for a few years, they were best friends. But then 6 kissed 3, and they became childhood sweethearts. 7 secretly had feelings for 3, so 7 decided he needed to destroy 6 to win 3's affection. He started subtly, undermining 6 whenever possible with passive aggressive comments and compli-sults. But over time, things got much more insidious. 7 started messing with 6's performance in school, bringing down his grades and turning teachers against him. Even worse, 7 became great friends with 6's parents and slowly turned them against their own offspring. At night, 7 would sneak into 6's bedroom, and whisper depressing and hopeless things into his ears. Every time 3 was around, 7 would pants 6 and make fun of his genitalia, or try to body shame him in other ways. However, 3 was both smart and compassionate, and saw through 7's schemes, sticking with 6, trying to counter 7's psychological tear-down with compliments and friendship. Finally, 7 decided that he would never be able to win 3, so he drugged both 6 and 3, taking them to an abandoned cobbler's hut on the edge of town. There, he proceeded to torture and maim 3, forcing 6 to watch in horror, unable to do anything to save his sweetheart. 7 didn't kill 3, but instead, put her in a semi-vegetative state. 7 cleaned the scene of his prescence, then called the cops, having 6 blamed for 3's condition. 6 was sent to prison, believing 6 was guilty, 6's parents fell into a deep depression, eventually committing suicide over what they believed 6 had done. After serving 17 years of a 30 year sentence, and getting out on good behaviour, 6, now muscled and skilled as a fighter, thought he might get revenge on 7. But when he finally tracked down 7, he found out that 7 had installed a micro-bomb into 3's body, and should he be killed, the bomb would automatically go off and kill 3 as well. And though she was still in a mostly fugue state, 6 couldn't bring himself to hurt her any further, and decided to try and move on with his life. However, being an ex-con, it was difficult for him to get a job. 6 finally found employment at a diner, which 7 then bought, and proceeded to again undermine and toy with 6 at every turn. 6 tried to find employment elsewhere, but 7 contacted any potential employer and soured them against 6. 6 finally realized that no matter what he did, 7 was going to try and ruin his life, and he resigned himself to living as a broken, lonely man, never able to stand up to the depraved, amoral 7.

Judging by how Ed was handling the music box, I'm fairly certain Bathsheba is not attached to it. I think it's moreso just a memento of the case. As for Judy being pulled out of bed, the same way - many spirits do that. But it was, most likely, Malphas, doing that to illicit a deeper fear from Judy, as it's both startling and, as she has been woken like that, before, the fear would be stronger, due to her memory of the first time.

Bathseba was actually born in 1812 and died in 1863 in the Conjuring Universe. She got married and had her child in 1863 and then killer herself the same year. Also, Bathsheba wasn't trapped in the music box that belonged to Rory. She actually did go to Hell after Ed and Carolyn defeated her. But that box was still used in a ghostly presence which is why the Warrens took it. It was Malthus who pulled on Judy's ankle in Annabelle 3 because he learned that from Bathsheba, and it was an homage to her.
