Friend, I've been in LE for over 35 yrs. I've shot 2 qualifications and 2 practices yearly. Do the math. FBI/Blackwater qual ranges. You, my friend, are fast! Humble and modest. Good shooting. Good video. Don't mind the naysayers. When I build my range, like you, I've had enough expertise training to where i can now enjoy shooting rather then freakin dreading it. Good on you!!!
I really want to build something like this. It beats the hell out of "mining the berm" like I do. I wanted to mention that the lead dust you get when emptying the trap and shaking the bucket is the most dangerous way to expose yourself to lead. If the pipe were open ended at the bottom and had a angled baffle where it could slowly drop the fragments and dust into a bucket of water you could reduce your exposure to that dust to almost nothing. As long as you didnt add that wet lead to already molten lead no issue there either. And not to really sound like a safety sally (I hate them too), dogs love to watch you weld, but it causes them to go blind just like it would us. Keep that in mind.
Apex is awesome. Not only do they make great triggers, but their customer service is unbeatable. I had a flat advanced trigger for my P320. After the P320 recall they took back the original trigger and sent the new replacement trigger 100% free no postage either way. All that for something that was absolutely not their fault.
Super useful video that speaks to the absolute need to intelligently "cut-corners" so to speak where one can nowadays...American ingenuity, gotta love it--Definitely smart thinking that should translate into a trophy or two...Love the yellow Lab. Happy Holidays to All!
Great job! My dad build one similar when I was a about ten years old we used it a lot, collected our lead, molded our bullets, reloaded and shot again. I have no idea where it ended up, but I sure would like to have it today. Very nice video and thanks for sharing!!
I like the idea of putting everything at angles so as to increase the thickness of metal in relation to the bullet's flight path. Same idea as armor on tanks. Someone did mention that it would be more like perfect if the angle of one of the sides continued past the other so as to make it impossible to hit the pipe in the middle. That way when you pump up your Sheridan more than 10 pumps, you don't send a pellet thru it.😉. Seriously though, best looking bullet trap I have seen! Great job. Don't breathe in that lead dust man!
I would love to see a comparison of TSJ vs FMJ on this bullet trap. If possible maybe even a high speed camera on the TSJ rounds in flight. Great Video and thanks for sharing!
Really enjoyed this video - great design, well-filmed, informative and overall quite watchable! Keep up the good work, you’ve got something going here....
I like the bullet trap. Thats an awesome idea. You are correct on the slugs. They are hard on steel targets. Also i thought you was cooking on the parr time and you say it was awful.
Wow. I didn't expect you to be able to draw and reload that fast. You seem like such a calm relaxed dude. Best of luck in the competitions. I hope you make POV GoPro videos when you do go out to competitions as I would really enjoy watching your growth in the sport.
Great idea for saving lead for recasting. Only one improvement I could think of besides the "tip off bottom" mentioned by the welder guy, was that one plate should be longer than the other so no shots could go directly into the pipe. With a slight overlap but still a space between, the shots will always hit plate even though the pipe is pretty tough. The overlap with a space will also guarantee that no lead will ever bounce back or out of the device, though it would still be rare with your design. Good luck and keep shootin'.
Love the bullet catch thingamajig! And, love your channel name!! GUN-TIME with Brandon!! Im a geezer Brandon, the name you chose works great! Gun time. Tells us what you do. What we like to see. You spending time with guns. Me watching.
Nice build, it might be a good idea to glue some thin rubber sheet onto the rear of the panels and tube to stop the metal from ringing. Apart from that, an excellent job. 👍
Very impressed with your design. Never watched one of your videos before but looking forward to more. You are interesting plus loved the humor! When you started the timed shooting you taught me some great stuff to try and work on. Plus you had me laughing very hard at times. Great videos and like I said looking forward to more. Take Care and be safe!
Hi, thanks for the good video. I noticed your cast bullets smoked alot, i had a similar situation when i was lubrisizing it with a 50/50 bees wax allox mixture. I then tried just tumble lubing with Lee liquid allox for handgun loads and the smoke issue is resolved. If the smoke doesn't bother you then forget what i said. Kind greetings
Looks great ... would you think it might work on a 30-06, mr-15, and other rifles? Or might the side plates need to be a bit thicker? Or you think it's more for a hand gun?
Yes but over hear in the UK as you know we're not allowed hand guns now. Hence why I shoot air rifle's and shotgun's. Keep the Vid's coming I love them.
the deflection plate angle at a range may be listed as 12 degrees so for a silhouette target make 2 steel triangles 56 inch "tall" with a 24 inch wide "base" for the top & bottom & make 2 steel trapezoids 56 inch "tall" with a 45 inch base & 21inch "top" for the sides to make a 5 foot-ish funnel that you weld the small end into a 2 inch slit in a 6 inch pipe
Great design, works well! Your dog did a nice job of supervising construction. I'll bet you could sell as many of those as you could make! Shipping would be a little high though. Interesting video, thanks!
Interesting design and great build Brandon, will indeed save you a fortune. Just be careful when opening that pan up, that very fine lead dust that billowed out is a nasty thing to breath in. But apart from that very cool make great job.
Word of caution: blood LEAD levels and it's ill effects. My advice: have them checked at least every 6mo. Mine were high from just shooting indoors 2 x week for a yr. Took a year to come back normal. Use gloves , ventilated areas, etc....
Nicely done! Please don't handle lead dust, and be careful not to breathe it either. Lead dust is MUCH more hazardous than handling solid lead such as cast bullets, etc,
Liberty4Ever Yeah man, use gloves when handling the dirty trap and the powder! Remember, no safe threshold for lead exposure has been discovered, meaning ALL lead exposure does damage to the body!
***** I'd generally agree. Lead absorption through the skin is low enough that for most real life applications it's close enough to zero that I don't get too worried about that. However, our skin does have a texture (fingerprints, cuticles, etc.) and the lead oxide dust can get stuck in there and later transfer to food we're eating. If I needed to handle powdered lead such as shown in this video, I'd wear gloves. Not to keep lead from being absorbed through my hands, but to keep from contaminating my hands so much that the lead compounds would be ingested later. Breathing finely powdered lead compounds is much more problematic and care should be taken to avoid that. BTW - There are special cleaning compounds and wipes formulated to remove lead, but trisodium phosphate (sold in the paint department of your local home store as TSP) is very effective at removing lead dust.
+Liberty4Ever Only inhaling lead is dangerous (once inside it can't be expelled by the lungs and does practically the same damage as smoking tar does to them).
Enjoyed you videos under 401. Gun-Time is a suitable name. Find a way to mass produce these traps, sell them, and make a million. Another great video. Thanks again.
That's a really slick design. When you are catching that powdered lead & melting your own is when your lead levels start to build up in your body. Keep an eye on that, be aware of & avoid excessive exposure so you can enjoy shooting for many years to come. That design is probably worth patenting. You can get a provisional patent for just a few hundred & shop it to manufacturers. If they like it then spend the $ for a regular patent. Even if you have no desire to make & sell them, get the idea protected & let an established target manufacturer take it from there & collect a royalty. Seriously, If I were you I would at least talk to a patent attorney & see what options you have. It may not make you $10 million but if you got a $5 or $10 royalty for each one it could seriously add up. Back in the 80s my friends dad patented those stupid little bars that you padlock across the coin bin on video games. Yea, a piece of flat with a hinge & a slot cut in it. He licensed it to the video game manufacturers & made 25 cents a piece. He would never tell me how many were made but he was making serious cash off of a very basic idea.
Very good. but what is the thickness of the plate you used on the side ramp. ? you also have the dimensions.? I found very interesting. I would like to make one for myself. thank you and congratulations.
Have you considered putting a top and bottom plate to catch any low or high angled shots that might miss the side plates? And rather than put wheels on just the back so you have to tilt it since it does weigh over 200 lbs put an all wheel base on it with outdoor dolly wheels or something that would roll easily on uneven surfaces you'll find outside.
Gun Time made me think of Howdy Doody Time. (Dates me, I know). With all the good names suggested I don’t know how you decided on that one. There was nothing wrong with Brandon401401. Since I’ve been subbed for a few years, you are still Brandon401401 to me. Actually, I did not even notice the name change till I started reading the comments. Nice little trap. Get that patented before someone else watches this video and patens it for themselves. You just built yourself a 401K.
He can't patent it. He did a common standard design. Actually he kinda messed up. You are supposed to offset the plates at the convergence and have the tube off center. That way a bullet can't hit the pipe directly. In this way it can take hits from high powered rifles without damage.
Friend, I've been in LE for over 35 yrs. I've shot 2 qualifications and 2 practices yearly. Do the math. FBI/Blackwater qual ranges. You, my friend, are fast! Humble and modest. Good shooting. @Pine Nut Move on Antifa, keep being a usefull idiot for the Marxist's
Congrats on the very effective bullet trap build!
FWIW, I wouldn't be so cavalier about handling the lead fragments/dust. Stay safe!
I really want to build something like this. It beats the hell out of "mining the berm" like I do. I wanted to mention that the lead dust you get when emptying the trap and shaking the bucket is the most dangerous way to expose yourself to lead. very clever design. you'll probably start getting requests to build those for other high volume shooters.
Same situation. I think I will try to make one. Thanks for posting. Great video.
Im so glad you are making videos more frequently again. You have a way of cutting through the BS and making informative videos. Very enjoyable.
Apex is awesome. Not only do they make great triggers, but their customer service is unbeatable. I had a flat advanced trigger for my P320. After the P320 recall they took back the original trigger and sent the new replacement trigger 100% free no postage either way. All that for something that was absolutely not their fault.
Very cool. I like how you just went at the project and figured it out on your own. Self reliance means loads in this world.
Super useful video that speaks to the absolute need to intelligently "cut-corners" so to speak where one can nowadays...American ingenuity, gotta love it--Definitely smart thinking that should translate into a trophy or two...Love the yellow Lab. Happy Holidays to All!
The dog needs a welding mask. Great job! I just picked up the steel today I want to copy your exact design. Thanks for posting!
Great job! My dad build one similar when I was a about ten years old we used it a lot, collected our lead, molded our bullets, reloaded and shot again. I have no idea where it ended up, but I sure would like to have it today. Very nice video and thanks for sharing!!
too awesome...son you have a new business venture there...if I had the cash I know I would buy one...great job!
My gosh that Apex trigger is like butter, definitely going to buy one now!
Great target & trap! Thanks for sharing not only the design but also the demonstration to prove it works. Well done!
Awesome trap, would like to see more of you and Kirsti shooting challenges
Same trigger I have in my M&P 9 pro and I must agree, it's the cats meow. That gun with that trigger don't get much better!
I love it. Smart design and build.
This is an awesome design for a bullet trap you should get a patent for this and sell it
This is not an original design it is a smaller version of commercially available traps
Wow!!! You did great on that trap!!!!!
Awesome design.
I like the idea of putting everything at angles so as to increase the thickness of metal in relation to the bullet's flight path. Same idea as armor on tanks. Brandon, You need to have the plans for the bullet trap available for others! I would like to build one like it!!!
That is a very impressive bullet trap. Nice job there.
Right on. I have been thinking of something like what you have. GREAT WORK and Vid. Yer dog looks like a winner
great video!
me and my pops just watched and were heading out get materials to build our own monday!
Nice looking old Ford at the top of the driveway. btw nice invention deVinci.
Nice, very cool design, btw a humble shooter is always better than excuses, live seeing that
I like the bullet trap. Thats an awesome idea. You are correct on the slugs. They are hard on steel targets. Also i thought you was cooking on the parr time and you say it was awful.

Nice video as usual. I miss Kentucky so I enjoy the back drop as well as the shooting:)
That trap is awesome Brandon great design especially for the first prototype.
Dude that is awesome. I am definitely making this. Thanks for sharing.
super slick design brandon looks great
This was exactly what I have been looking for as well. Very nice.
Great idea for saving lead for recasting. Great idea I am going to build one like this.
You done a fantastic job!!
Very cool! Great design.
Very nice bullet trap! Great demonstration!
Karl Hansson ---- same here too! the sound of gun fire brings bak my shooting days memories. well done.
Love the bullet catch thingamajig! And, love your channel name!! GUN-TIME with Brandon!! Im a geezer Brandon, the name you chose works great! Gun time. Tells us what you do. What we like to see. You spending time with guns. Me watching.
Very nice. Great build for the savings.
Awesome! Love your channel Brandon! Keep it up
Just awesome. I want one!
Awesome setup! Should pay for itself in no time.
Might have to make my own sometime.
Great job!! love the design! you have a marketable product there!
ballsy shooting those slugs!
great target man.
I live in the uk so no guns here.. Still love the videos. Your work is always professional, informative and interesting - keep it up!
no guns.....no Freedom

Very well done, Brandon!
I like your style...
Looks great ... would you think it might work on a 30-06, mr-15, and other rifles? Or might the side plates need to be a bit thicker? Or you think it's more for a hand gun?
Great video on your build. Can't wait for the review on the flat faced trigger from APEX.
I wish that's how much primers and powder cost now! Awesome video Brandon.
What a brilliant job, though the welding could do with a bit more practice ;
plumbers putty is ok for air guns but useless for anything else the idea of this is to be able collet he lead and recast it into bullets
Yes but over hear in the UK as you know we're not allowed hand guns now. Hence why I shoot air rifle's and shotgun's. Keep the Vid's coming I love them.
very nice build Brandon.
Very innovative.
the deflection plate angle at a range may be listed as 12 degrees so for a silhouette target
make 2 steel triangles 56 inch "tall" with a 24 inch wide "base" for the top & bottom &
make 2 steel trapezoids 56 inch "tall" with a 45 inch base & 21inch "top" for the sides
to make a 5 foot-ish funnel that you weld the small end into a 2 inch slit in a 6 inch pipe
let's go brandon!
Great idea
That's an awesome setup.
Very nice. Be careful handling that lead and lead dust.
Awesome build and idea!
That trap makes a lot of lead dust. Nice shooting. Be safe
Brandon,
I'm fine with the new name. I've been looking at your stuff for a couple years now, and I think it's GREAT.
Keep up the good work.
Awsome work.
Great videos
Great design, works well! Your dog did a nice job of supervising construction. I'll bet you could sell as many of those as you could make! Shipping would be a little high though. Interesting video, thanks!
Excellent job bud.
Looking forward to that review of the flat faced apex trigger and how it compares to the curved apex trigger. Keep up the good work.
Nice work!
Interesting design and great build Brandon, will indeed save you a fortune. Just be careful when opening that pan up, that very fine lead dust that billowed out is a nasty thing to breath in. But apart from that very cool make great job.
Great job. Thank you for showing this. Great shooting too.
Please consider wearing gloves and a respirator when handling the lead.
Awesome job thanks
Nice idea and well made!
Excellent idea! Keep up the great vids Brother!!
love it. thank you very much for the information sir.
I love this video and I'd like to see more like it so I think you should make cool gun inventions on your channel more often
Very smart. Well done

Great job. Just a comment: you should have used an angle iron for the top and bottom plates connection, too, just to avoid ricochet.
T-shirts in December. Good Luck with your competition shooting.
What a great idea. You should sell these things!
Cool idea
Very good. but what is the thickness of the plate you used on the side ramp. ? you also have the dimensions.?
I found very interesting. I would like to make one for myself. thank you and congratulations.
Thats a well made target trap for sure I might be able to hit that one lol
That's a great design maybe you can market that ? Will be interesting with high powered rifle rounds
Great job on the trap!

Awesome job dude!
