As everyone does. You will never remember all these rules while trying to speak or listening.
The best system that worked for me was a system which starts off in all English in the target language and as the conversation progressed a word or two is introduced and over the course of the conversation the whole conversation is in the target language. This takes time
over many conversations and you will be surprised that you are understanding the target language. This works for reading and speaking.

How can you start “all in English” in the target language that makes no sense as surely that’s just English?

Learning German would be the biggest journey I would take (yet), since not only do I not live in Germany or even close to any German speaking country, this is also my 3rd language and the first language I will learn without getting to practice speaking to other people. I do not expect fast progress, but I'm definitely not giving up on this language :) I've tried learning French but (it's a heck of a language and) I find German way easier, especially with this amount of resources.

So many great tips in the presentation. Patience and realistic goals are really key; without them, one can get disappointed with their progress and eventually lose interest in learning. Mindset is an absolute key factor, and I am glad that you mentioned it. Flashcards, as you suggested is what I started out with. I had a very long commute to work on a train and that time going back and forth to work is when I did my reviewing. Using the gender with the noun as a beginner was something I neglected to do so now I am backtracking a bit to catch up with the use of genders with the noun. Am busy writing down all of the resources you mentioned; I am a watcher of the Easy German RUclips channel, and I got a lot of background on German culture and what makes the German public tick! As you can see, I get a lot of helpful tips and instruction from you, and I am very glad to have come across your channel. Thanks so much!

I learn German because I want to work as a nurse in Germany. I started last 2018 and after a year and a half, I took the B2 exam. Unfortunately, I did not pass it, overall. Though I passed the speaking part but overall, I failed. Because you emphasized speaking as the most important, I find it the most easy. Yes, practice is the key. On my second attempt same year 2019, I still didn't make it. So sad. And when the pandemic started on 2020, it is so hard then for us to take the exam because we need to travel to get to the exam centers. For me, Schriftlich in general is the hardest. But thank you Lehrer Luzi for the tips. I will note them. I am not giving up for my dreams!

Years ago in the navy we visited Yokosuka, Japan. My first time out in town was a disaster. I spoke no Japanese. Nobody spoke English. So at the base book store I got an English to Japanese dictionary. I wrote down key words and tricky phrases based on my previous experience, learned them, then went out. It opened up a whole new world and I had a blast. The people were friendly and helpful. I just went for it.

I think for me I worry way too much about the German Grammar, making it perfekt, just so I don't sound like I'm intelligent or a foreigner. I am slowly feeling better about that, the more I speak to others I realize it wasn't so bad and that not everyone has that way of thinking (being negative towards those who come from other countries/learn/speaks other languages)
But I do need to practice my writing! I think with today's technology, we hardly write like we used to. So the diary idea sounds like such a good idea to do! Even if it's only a few days a week, Just to be able to practice writing in German to better it, is one of my goals. 😊
Thank you for the video! I feel a lot better with knowing your experience in Taiwan. I am currently living in Germany (Soweit seit 5 Monaten) and it can be overwhelming to speak to people, But the most overwhelming thing for me is, having those spontaneous conversations and being all flustered because you want to help then it's like you forgot how to say this and form the sentence correctly (like a bit of stage fright) if it was in my native language = no problem, easy!. But for the moment, (A2-Niveau) it is still a little overwhelming. 😅
    Nochmals vielen Dank! 🤗

I use a note book and my brother's "Teach Yourself German" and I have a friend who is fluent in German. We are seniors, I had learnt some Spanish once, before that Samoan, before that Latin at school. So I am not unfamiliar with the Declensions ideas etc....But at my age I had decided to do other things but then when my friend and I got talking...well, he knows German, Chinese (North and South), modern Greek. I was also reading some German poetry as my friend was. (In English and German). We also looked at some Swiss poetry which was a revelation. I am a writer and read, for example Musil's three volume book (in English of course!) some Mann, and some Rilke, Celan, Trakl but I was also reading Wittgenstein and after reading his texts, or some, I read a bio. and in there are his diaries in German and translated so I looked at them. I think learning English for (say) a Polish person or a Chinese) is just as difficult as German. But the various der die das and the grammar, declensions and verb conjugations have to be mastered. I was caught out with translating '...in der See...' I had read that 'die See was the sea. Der See, a lake...So I thought the book was wrong (it said in the sea - 'gebardet' I think it was, with 'hat' I think ). And I "corrected" the book. Then I thought, no, it IS the sea! As der here is the dative 'the' for the feminine singular...took me ages to do the exercises but I was proud of that one! (I knew the 'die, die, der der' etc).... I agree, it will take time (if this is still going of course or similar)...

I want some more of those old file cards....I agree with writing words down (preferably on physical card etc). Even having some old paper also and writing it down, repeating it aloud and so on.

Also noch einmal: danke schön! :)

Yes sir it is hard work in the beginning. Learning a new language as a child is easy but as we get older difficult. It is to do with programming the brain cells. Aller Anfang ist schwer.
