When I brought you the feed sack fabric, I hadn’t realize that you liked it. I will keep my eye out for more of it and will even touch base with a gal that sold me the ones that I split up for you guys.

Brenda: My Mother, who was young during the Depression, wore feed sack dresses made by her
Mother. When my Grandmother died, my Mother gave me all of the feed sack scraps from her Mother. I ended up making a pieced quilt ( had someone else hand quilt it). It is very precious to me.

Feed sacks of this type may not come to Canada until the 50s, but they definitely started in the 30s here during the depression as a marketing method. Other fabrics were too expensive for most, so the sacks were a service to many. Some also were printed with a pattern for a stuffed a nimal as well. The fabric was relatively cheap, loosely woven and coarse threads. My parents and their sibs had clothing made of feed sacks

Your fabric choices are just so beautiful Sarah. 😍 I love it so far.
I haven’t started yet as I’m sewing a rock pool from Fleur’s book. It all takes so much time doesn’t it! Amazing how you fit it all in with teaching full time as well. Xxxx

Love your colors. When my mom passed away my dad gave me her feed sacks. I was going to use them in my slow stitching. But 1st need to figure out what box they are in.. haha Thank you

This is looking so beautiful Sarah. You have an amazing eye and the way you put it all together is amazing! Your pouch idea has really inspired me to make some more. Also best wishes for the holidays - being a teacher these days is more demanding than ever - thank you for the investment you've made to the young this term - now it's time for you to take some time for you. Best wishes, Kate@thejournalnest

Hi Sarah, your zipper pouch is going to be bright and colourful❣️ I am wondering if you have looked at the colours available from “Itchy Stitchy” ? They are an online family business on the Gold Coast. Their stranded threads are of Egyptian cotton, very reasonably priced and they also stock DMC threads. When I last looked through their colours I’m sure I saw a neon pink in the “ Itchy Stitchy” brand. Hope this helps. 😊🌻🦋

Would it be telling my age if I admitted wearing feed sack dresses made by my grandmother when I was a child? 😂
