Of course everyone involved at Google saw what would happen - and surely did happen during testing - but didn't speak up because of the social culture of compliance.
Dream on - they did it intentionally. All US tech companies are based in California. These super woke progressives think that curating the internet in their image (including censoring is) is super ethical. They are the morally superior, so it's their duty to use the power of the companies they work for to propagandise the world into their way of thinking. No harm could possibly come from that and if it does we'll just cancel anyone that points it out!!!!
@@andyvirus2300Yeah, I think destiny is way too charitable. It's true that Google thinks they are doing a good thing, but it is also definitely true that there is a top-down organized effort to implement a pretty extreme ideology. I have had googlers as roommates, and they were in deeeeeeep. Socialist revolutionary anarchist deep. They are surrounded by that atmosphere at the company, and people that don't subscribe to those views are considered a "bad culture fit". It definitely is an organization-wide phenomena, destiny is wrong in his take on that. Ideology doesn't just affect a couple people, it can affect the entire org.
As someone who is working in AI, the amount of deliberate work to get that kind of result is no joke. This is no accident. This is better seen when people people asked Gemini to output a « beautiful woman on the beach », and you find yourself with an obese black woman as the output, or simply « naked woman » gave you a woman (?) wearing a niqab. They were trained to be the farthest from the truth as possible, and that’s hard, really hard.
@@Tomjones12345 This is the approach OpenAI used with dalle, but I highly doubt that the case here. First because that kind of approach doesn’t work well with multimodal LLM, but mainly because this isn’t just changing the prompt, bit changing the meaning of it. When you think « beautiful woman » the last think you’re going to think about is an obese black woman. And when you see the failsafe for the rest of the model, like how it won’t help you in C++ because it is… unsafe. How can Google can be so behind in the AI race is impressive.

I get what Destiny is saying, but I think it ignores the reality of complete ideological capture in almost all American institutions. The "screw up" or "whoopsie" happens over and over and only in one direction.
He completely rejects the notion of institutions being ideologically captured. It's a real shame as his inability to see/accept that, as long as it aligns with own ideology, blinds him to so many realities and prevents him from having a reasonable position.

It would have been racist anyway - it's based on data WE produce, it's going to have the same faults we have but amplified in odd ways because of the biases of the people training it. Humans are flawed, therefore everything we create will be flawed.
Why on Earth would there be any anti whiteism to begin with? White men have been so kind to all other races since the beginning of time. Never killed, raped, and mass murdered others. Never went to war with people of color. Never came into their land and stole it. People act like white people claimed they were superior by race at any point in history. I'm just confused what could white people have possibly done that was frowned upon in history. Or are you saying calling out the wrong sides in history white people have been on is being anti white?

Most of the pre-1917 Communists around the world had great intentions. Evil and suffering on the largest scale in history ensued around the world from these "good intentions". This Gemini thing reminds me of when the devs of the Civilization game tried to code Gandhi to be super-pacifist, and ended up making him insanely nuke-happy by pushing the code a little too far.
That was just an integer underflow. There were a bunch of modifiers you could apply to Gandhi's peace level to reduce it. If it went below 0, then the integer "underflows" and cycles back around to 255 (or 127, depending on type). It wasn't a strong, concerted effort to make him "woke" or anything
@@JackSack-w5h It does, however, teach us a fundamental lesson: just use a signed type unless you absolutely have to do otherwise and back your invariants up with checks or assertions.
I am tired of granting them the benefit of assuming compassion. I think they just wanna feel good without making an effort to dig into root causes and long term effects. Because if people had ever spent one, just one hour, of digging through commonalities in trans, they'd see an extreme prevalence of sexual abuse having happened to them as children, and that treatment is extremely difficult even if they get to the point of passing and acceptance from their peers.
Thank you. Blaire White said something similar, it's most likely a trauma response. Then again, most people calling themselves today are just pretending anyway, they don't actually have gender dysphoria.
Well that is the problem with luxury beliefs. The tiny minority elite at Google can afford luxury beliefs, the downsides of which they are completely insulated from. Poor people that live in rough neighbourhoods don't want the police defunded. But super privileged liberal elites who live in gated communities, they can virtue signal defunding the police all day and never feel any of the consequences of their virtue signalling.
While I understand your point in pointing out relevant correlations. I don’t think it’s fair to imply that sexual abuse is the causal factor in someone being transgender. The literature is absolutely non-conclusive. And is certainly not the case in all scenarios. There is however plenty of evidence to suggest medical transition can result in decreased anxiety and depression. Although research is still very much ongoing. And there are certainly many exceptions. So saying someone could spend “just one hour” to reach your conclusion isn’t very true. There’s no reason why it shouldn’t come from a place of passion to support children who are truly transgender. Science doesn’t have any truly clear answers on either side.
The ops isn't saying sexual abuse is a causal factor in being transgender. They are saying that there are numerous reasons someone might present with gender dysphoria. Gender affirming care just goes straight to prognosis without any diagnosis. This is totally unscientific and goes against all medical practise. As a result it has misdiagnosed thousands of children and pushed them to irreversible surgical procedures which did not address or fix their actually underlying issues (sexual abuse, autism, depression, normal teenage anxiety, the list goes on). This is why gender clinics are being sued by thousands of people who were given negligent clinical advice, because no one actually stopped to give them real therapy to investigate their issue. It's not actually "compassionate" to wreck the lives of kids because some of them might be truly transgender, so lets just jump to a transgender diagnosis. It's truly horrific what society has allowed.

If you haven’t read Jonathan Haidt’s book The Rigtheous Mind, I recommend it. He talks about the “boo abortion” or “yay abortion” knee jerk reactions that people have. @squibbelsmcjohnson For the record, this is absolutely NOT in "The Righteous Mind", and Haidt would never condone this opinion. In fact, he would suggest that approaching the "other side" with some understanding would lighten their defenses and more readily allow logic to reach them.
The only thing Destiny said about Gemini AI is that they tried to make it diverse but went too hard ("overcorrected"). Essentially "it's a good thing it's happening, but it wasn't -subversive- subtle enough."

Just because you don't start with a particular assumption doesn't mean the facts of the matter won't show it to be true later. Some people *are* being evil and disingenuous, but you shouldn't start with that assumption until you have evidence to support it.
@@ewancaldwell9869 Assuming a position of compassion is great and Destiny is gradually getting better at this, but you can tell he mainly only does this if the topic is one he has already sided with. For example, if he genuinely feels Jan 6th protestors were there to protest the election being stolen, then he wouldn't call them "insurrectionists". Calling them insurrectionists implies he feels they were there and attempted to overthrow the government. He starts by assuming they are his enemy here to destroy the country.

The poltican games and BS have serious consequences, as there are now simple idiots in prison for years because they are a political football. Disgusting. US appears utterly corrupted, possibly beyond the point of possible redemption.
@@jeremybuckets I would reframe this. I think it is more accurate to say that one of the biggest sources of mass scale evil is the collective belief that "we" are saving the world from "them" who are harming it, and that is driven by hardwired ingroup/outgroup tribal psychology modules, which also turns people stubborn and refusing to listen to dissenting views. Few people are ever trying to be evil. Almost everybody is the hero of their own story, even the monsters of history. This is why person commitment to any belief system or cause is immediately a dangerous position -- whether liberal, conservative, progressive, libertarian, socialist, whatever religion, and onward -- and why free speech, debate, and listening to dissenting views is imperative to avoiding "evil". It's ok to hold views that you think make the most sense and with the most evidence; it's not ok to believe that you can't possibly be wrong and are unwilling to listen to opposing views in their own words.
3:30 spot on. It's really hard not to jump to conclusions, and you may even be right, but if you start with pre-conceptions you'll always find what you're looking for, because of the lens you're looking through,

Google search is awful. One time, it was great; now, it's next to useless. These are the top ten ads for your search request. Soon or later, a better search engine will come along.
I think the problem with search engines, that is not unique to Google, is the user, so many people search for the answer they want not necessarily the actual truth and so whilst Google will answer the query correctly, in doing so it fosters misinformation

I am tired of granting them the benefit of assuming compassion. I think they just wanna feel good without making an effort to dig into root causes and long term effects.

Few people are ever trying to be evil. Almost everybody is the hero of their own story, even the monsters of history. Such brilliant insight, I appreciate Destiny so much.
Funny how in the same breath of saying not to start from a place blaming your enemy for the worst he calls it an "Insurrection"
Saying something is an insurrection isn’t a moral statement. The American Revolution was an insurrection and it was pretty based.

Yeah he doesn't seem like he's actually super intelligent. More like he's average, maybe slightly above average intelligence and just uses that charisma, expectation manipulation, play on your insecurities, smoke and mirrors, type technique that sociopaths tend to use to make them appear smarter than they really are. If you listen to him with that in mind it will kinda just seem like tepid fluff statements.
This is just you getting mad because his default point of view isn't to take everything everyone else says as gospel and agree with you.

@@nathanmitchell7961 No I don't think that's what it is. I've listened to a fair amount of his content and content featuring him. I think it's important to have a nuanced view on things, there are things where I agree with his position. I just find him to not really say much of substance and to be better at making himself sound right by degrading another position than he is at actually making salient, factual points. And I find that annoying.

Great insights on the AI mishap! For entrepreneurs, it's important to know that AI systems can sometimes amplify biases present in their training data, so it's crucial to have diverse datasets and continuous monitoring to avoid such PR nightmares.

damn this was good. destiny is really on his shit rn. thanks, Vyvanse!
I think the problem with search engines, that is not unique to Google, is the user, so many people search for the answer they want not necessarily the actual truth and so whilst Google will answer the query correctly, in doing so it fosters misinformation
That’s a very useful conversation in terms of a 10% difference of view being taken as a 100% opposing view. The death of nuance, listening and reasonable disagreement is a big problem.
how curated is Destiny's world view that he was only vaguely aware of this?
very
There's a million issues going on in the world so I wouldn't expect a political commentator to know all of them especially amidst a big public debate of his. I mean I work in tech and only vaguely knew about this topic, because the world of tech is immense (and most isn't public drama).
@@junimeme5626 Safe to assume the tech you work in isn't software, or you neither consume software or political related content on RUclips, since my home/recommended feeds were full of videos from both software and political channels talking about this for weeks. Literally impossible to miss.
He lives in an ideological bubble, insulated by his radical community.
Having watched Destiny off and on for the last decade, my summation, is his analysis leads him to never be wrong. He's got quick mind, and he's no dummy. But, he believes he's got the answer for everything. And like a typical liberal, when faced with the absolute failure of his conclusion, he doubles down.
People rarely assume others are doing 'Evil crazy stuff' they assume they believe they are doing things' for the good of all' whilst not recognizing it is that act itself which is often used simply as a shield by the elite.

Using the media's own logic what happened on j6 was a mostly peaceful protest.
@@john.10347 it was a protest that was at most, half as violent as the BLM riots. 100% a setup by democrats to attempt to remove trump from power but it failed.
When you twist the meaning of words constantly you can call anything whatever you want, it's an insurrection if the narrative says it is because the definition is malleable depending on who we need to demonize this week

Every once in a while, I'll check in to see if Destiny is still blue-pilled.
Here he is talking about still believing in Hanlon's law and calling a riot an insurrection.
Because its object was to prevent a legitimate president-elect from assuming office, the attack was widely regarded as an insurrection
Yea, a "riot" that was predicated upon a campaign of misinformation about rigged elections propped up by Trump that caused "rioters" to try an obstruction the transfer of power by storming the capitol.
Even while the criminals gained access to the Capitol Donald Trump used the opportunity to ask Pence to overturn the election instead of calling of his cronies to go home. Because its object was to prevent a legitimate president-elect from assuming office, the attack was widely regarded as an insurrection
I'm not going to pretend like i don't know why you're using reductionist language to downplay what happened on January 6th but it's dishonest nonetheless.
*It was an insurrection.*
Because its object was to prevent a legitimate president-elect from assuming office, the attack was widely regarded as an insurrection. They sought to keep Trump in power by occupying the Capitol and preventing a joint session of Congress counting the Electoral College votes to formalize the victory of President-elect Joe Biden. The attack was ultimately unsuccessful (thankgod) in preventing the certification of the election results.
