At the 7:24 mark, I remember decades ago POPULAR SCIENCE and POPULAR MECHANICS magazines had the same idea about using baby food jars for holding hardware and screwing them to the shelf with their tops. Brings back a lot of memories.
6:20 is a very useful hack. To get pro level results you can also strip the paper off the drywall in the areas where you apply the reinforcing mess. This way, it comes out perfectly level. If you don't do this, there will always be some uneven raised bump in the areas where there is mesh was used (even if you sand the spackle.)
@@AlexMcGaughan I hear what you're saying but I still think it is a hack. It's a shortcut because the proper way to repair it is to take down the dry wall and connect it a new piece to the studs. Years from now if somebody goes back into that wall and sees a piece of wood screwed into the sheet rock the 1st comment they'll say is oh what a hack. But again I totally agree with you that this is a good way to fix it. It works and saves a lot of time.
@@MOAB-UT I take your point, but if I suggested to any of my clients that, to do it right, I would have to replace the entire sheet of drywall to repair a 4” hole, I’m pretty sure that would be the last time they talked to me, lol. I say patch, you say hack, it’s all good.
@@AlexMcGaughan I agree with you. I think it's just the term hack that is causing confusion. A good hack like this one can be a good thing. It is still technically a shortcut. If I had to repair that I would do exactly what he did in the video except I would trim some of the paper off the sheet rock so the seam tape sits more flush when you cover it with spackle.
some good stuff here. When plugging existing holes with wood, like in fixing the hinge, it is often useful to glue the plugs in before replacing the screws.
Those are some great tips....some i knew and some i didnt. The drywall patch if you cut it a bit larger and score the backside you can peel it so the top layer is larger and when you place it in the whole you can trim it while scoring the wall. Peel the top layer of paper off the wall in that spot and you can use your patch as the tape as well and will not have the need to fill as much as the levels would be relatively the same

Appreciate you showing the baby jar lids screwed in up at top, fill the jar with as in my dads case screws, washers, nuts and bolts. Not sure but there was a flock on them about 35, 40 jars. these one's actually work and are not stupid,
So thank you for sharing.
OMG, seeing the glass jars with lids nailed under a shelf brought back memories from seventy years ago, thank you for posting that one.
Me too. My Dad did the same thing and he screwed the jars onto the undersides of the stair treads. Genius!
Don't forget to use plastic jars, save on picking up shards. They can come loose.

Its actually a good idea when it comes to zip ties. If you cut out top or bottom they just fall out easily many times just by accident.
