I am no expert, but I have been reading up about this for a while now. 'Jerusalem ' was written in 1804 by William Blake, a much respected Poet here in the UK, after he became fascinated by a piece of history he stumbled across. Long before the Romans invaded our shores the people here had, for hundreds of years, traded with the Ancient World - including Rome, the East Mediterranean and Palestine. These Islands were rich in precious and non precious metals. Rome appointed Joseph of Arimathea, a very important and wealthy Jew in Palestine to be their Procurer of Metals. He travelled regularly to these Islands for shipments of all types of metals to supply the Roman Empire. Not only were we known and written about throughout the Ancient World, but they considered us an advanced, educated culture. They also called us the Centre of the Spiritual World.
When Mary's husband died, she and the young Jesus went to live with her uncle, Joseph of Arimathea. It's been recorded that Joseph sometimes brought Jesus with him when he came here to buy metals. Years later, when Jesus was crucified, Joseph of Arimathea claimed the body of Jesus from Pontius Pilate and placed him in Joseph's own burial cave. Days later, when rumours began to circulate that Jesus had risen from the dead, Joseph of Arimathea knew he had to flee. He had guarded and protected Jesus from both his Jewish Community and Rome. Both peoples would be more than furious. He and his Followers fled to a place they knew well - the South-West of England. Given land by the local King, they built a Church out of wattle and daub, which they called 'The Oratory'. It was the first Christian church built above ground in the World.
There are documents that seem to back this up, in the British Museum, in Christ College, Cambridge, in The Vatican, Rome and in various Ancient Greek manuscripts, even by the Romans themselves, by writings in Babylonia and so on. There are physical boundary markers, stones showing the extent of the land given to Joseph of A and his followers by the King. There is mention of this same land in our Doomsday Book, commissioned by another King, William the Conqueror, when he took over after 1066. It describes the land as always being free of tax. Is it conclusive? I don't know yet and maybe I never will, but it's interesting to keep following the trail - especially in this world of computers where we have easier access to information.

William Blake wrote the poem, as was rightly said, about 1808. He was an extraordinary man, full of great visions. ( He did much art, particularly engravings. ) I wish I knew more, but he is a study in himself. Utterly his own man, he is difficult to pigeonhole. He was certainly not an establishment figure!
He hated the way that at that time great textile mills had sprung up over much of England - particularly the North - in which the workers were treated terribly.
He longs for the country to be better and happier. He makes reference to an ancient - and unlikely - legend, suggesting that Joseph of Arimathaea in Palestine - he was the man who later organised the burial of Jesus - took a young Jesus on business voyages, including to Britain. (Britain was at that time not part of the Roman Empire, but was trading with it.)
Blake was very fond of symbol.
Sir Hubert Parry was a great composer, more establishment, but I think he was Socialist. His music is magnificent; when King Charles III and Queen Camilla entered Westminster Abbey for their Coronation, the music for their Procession was Parry's setting of 'I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go to the house of the Lord'.
If you notice, Blake is not advocating wholesale bloodshed: "I will not cease, from mental fight..."
This video gives some idea of the history of our green land. Yes, there has been fighting - but also peacemaking; bad deeds - and good deeds; people living in misery - and relief of that misery.

There is a very old pub in Nottingham named the Trip to Jerusalem. The name is said to be a reference to the custom of medieval pilgrims and crusaders gathering at the inn before leaving for the Holy Land. Painted onto the side of the inn is a foundation date of 1189., if your eber in Nottingham go have a pint of shandy and sit outside and Nottingham castle it right above you , fantastic pub .The real talking point in the Trip is housed in the Rock Lounge located on the second floor. The Cursed Galleon is fabled not only in Nottingham but in the paranormal community. Legend has it that the wooden model galleon was given as a gift by a sailor who had visited. The ship for many years hung downstairs in the pub and collected ridiculous amounts of dust, literally hanging from floor to ceiling, very odd in a sandstone cave as noted by landlord Karl.
Here in lies the tale…the galleon was cleaned and moved position in the pub, the unfortunate who took on the task reportedly met with his maker not long after. In fact, the last 3 people to have handled the galleon have all met with a mysterious end!
Landlords thereafter have refused to let anyone clean the galleon over the years hence it’s grimy condition and why the model was placed in a glass case by a spiritualist many decades ago.

An American tourist comes to England to visit. He tours around the major cities and, being a great lover of cathedrals and churches, he visits many - starting in St. Paul's Cathedral in London.
Whilst in there he is admiring the great architecture and amazing fittings when he notices a golden telephone behind the alter! He asks some-one what the golden phone is...and gets the answer "thats a direct line to God! But it costs 50 million British pounds to use it !"
Amazed, he snaps some photos, and moves on for his next visit.
In Lincoln Cathedral he is again loooking around at the majesty of the interior, when he sees another golden telephone behind the alter. Again, he asks someone what it is...."a direct line to God mate! But its 50 million British Pounds to use it!"
Again, amazed, he snaps some photos, and moves on for his next visit.
He visits great cathedrals and churches the length and breadth of Britain - Manchester, Glasgow, Bristol etc etc....and all have these golden phones behind the alter - £50million pounds a call.
Finally he arrives in Yorkshire and calls in Sheffield Cathedral. He is taking photos and taking it all in when he notices that there is a sign next to the golden phone which reads, "All calls 10pence".
Aghast, he asks the Vicar about it, "I have seen these golden phones in all the places I have visited, but they are £50million to call God...how come this one has that sign on it?"
The Vicar replies "This is Yorkshire my friend...its a local call from here!"

I never met my grandmother, she died before I was born. but listening to it makes me cry, I'm from the north of England, working class, we were surrounded by those dark satanic mills, and beautiful rolling green pastures, they are part of us, just as we are part of them. Gritty northerners, good humour, common sense, hard working, tough, with bluntness, a moral compass and a warm heart. So much of what is most important in life has been, and is being lost.

There is a legend that Jesus (The Lamb of GOD) was brought to England when he was about 9 years old, by Joseph Of Aramathia to meet with the Druids, who were concentrated in Cornwall, Devon & Wales. When the Romans invaded about 20 years later they drove ALL the Druids onto Anglesey; an Island off of the N.E. Coast of Wales; were they slaughtered all of them. William Blake wrote Jersulem in the 18th Century based on this account. The background images of this video portray many of the Kings & leaders of England including such events as signing The Magna Carta & our folk heroes such as Robin Hood (The Earl of Loxley). England has over 2000 years of written history and at least another 8000 years of archeological history on top of that.
