    We film wildlife and we have 2 Red Helium (last generation) and one Red Raptor. The benefits with the Rhino vs Helium are really several things
    - Double slow motion. Incredibly useful with 120fps in 8k.
    - You can punch in while filming to check your focus
    - Better pre record technology that is more stable
    - Tons of other things like better wifi support
    - Support for RF lenses

They literally patented "one claimed method relates to guiding light onto a light-sensitive device of a camera, converting the light into raw digital mosaiced image data having a horizontal resolution of at least 2k at a rate of greater than 23 per second, compressing the mosaiced image data such that it remains substantially visually lossless upon decompression and recording that compressed digital mosaiced image data at a rate of at least 23 frames per second onto a storage device of the camera”. "In low light, I wouldn't push the camera really above 3200 to 6400 ISO. Above that you are going to get some really noisy images".
    I find this statement to be a little deceptive, since ISO is only recorded as metadata in the .R3D file. This means it only impacts our approach to exposure, but not the amount of noise in the image. Other than that, awesome job as usual!

    • @YouTube_can_ESAD
      @YouTube_can_ESAD Год назад +4

      You do realize why oversampling at a higher resolution to produce a clean 4K image right? A straight 4K Bayer sensor won’t produce a 4K image, RED tells you what you are starting with, Panasonic and others start at 5.6K to produce a 4K image. It’s NOT because RED has an irrational love for resolution, it’s the properties of dealing with. Bayer Pattern Sensor.

      @@RUclips_can_ESAD and you do realize that RED doesn’t oversample their images, right? It’s raw data, not processed. I know how a Bayer sensor works, and that it wouldn’t be a “true” 4K image unless it was 8K. Most camera sensors don’t produce a true 4K image. Point is, you could get a fantastic image with high frame rates and lower noise at that resolution.

    • @DynamicPhil84
      @DynamicPhil84 Год назад +1

      @@Dan737MASTER Not sure if RED would do this because in the case of this camera, to get 4k240, you have to crop down to a Micro 4/3 sensor size. Which would mean that RED would have to release a Micro 4/3 camera, which I don't see them doing. Super 35 is the lowest they will go. The Raven was kind of in-between Super 35 and Micro 4/3, but I doubt they'd release a similar camera like that again, there just isn't a market for it. Micro 4/3 is pretty much dead outside of drones and maybe future action cameras. I owned the Panasonic GH6 which was probably the most Panasonic would ever push out of that sensor size and was really underwhelmed by the image quality.

    How would the V-Raptor compare to the FX9? I know the FX9 has a 6K sensor, but it also records 120p 16 bit RAW. Is the V-Raptor worth the $10k extra?

    • @DynamicPhil84
      @DynamicPhil84 Год назад +1

      The FX9 is far far overpriced in my opinion. You can never get access to that full 6k resolution, even in RAW it is downsampled to 4k. Plus you need the expensive and over-sized attachment unit that goes on the back of the FX9 in order to output raw, and then that 16 bit raw gets converted to 12 bit ProRes Raw, which is absolutely loathe. I find it to be the least versatile, least functional raw format out there and pales in comparison to RED raw (the best in my opinion), Canon Raw Light, Blackmagic Raw, etc. The FX9 is an overall versatile camera for a lot of different environments, but not if you want to shoot raw.

What are your needs that the FX6 is currently not providing is the main question you'll want to answer, along with what your budget is.

It won't ever come close to the FX6 in terms of low light capability, but if you use fast glass (lenses that shoot at f1.2 or f1.0 for instance) it can totally work in low light. It shoots up to 6K in Super 35, and you can throw on a speedbooster to use full frame lenses and get an extra stop of light. All for the same price as the FX6.

    • @thermonuclearcollider4418
      @thermonuclearcollider4418 7 месяцев назад

      It's mostly a marketing ploy, though FF does come with a few advantages such as a cleaner image: in theory, it should be a full stop (so at ISO 1600 in FF you should get the same noise level that you'd see at ISO 800 on S35), though that has to be taken with a HUGE pinch of salt as every sensor is its own thing. The only cameras you can 100% see this pattern are the OG Alexa and the Alexa LF, because they use the same sensor (the LF simply use two ALEV III imagers sewn together): from personal experience, you can push the LF's ISO setting a bit further than what you can do with the Alexa. That said, FF mostly exists to force people to buy entirely new kits (not just the cameras, but the lenses): you don't really need it for cinema, save for VFX-heavy work. Arri reaffirmed S35 as the standard for cinema with the Alexa 35 and RED got so scared they pulled out S35 versions of their cameras, which make very little sense especially when it comes to the V-Raptor XL, as that's a machine mostly aimed at the rental market and rental houses would hardly buy two versions of the same camera. Sony at least is being coherent: they embraced FF and they are sticking to it.

So CMOS uses curtain shutter that fires up only a single line of pixels. So you get reduced noise, but it can suffer from horizontal noise banding due to the scanning procedure, as well as from the known rolling shutter effect. If we even had single pixel with slow capture, the rolling shutter would be an absurd diagonal mess, but noise would be extremely low. That would be awesome for static or slightly moving subjects, but catastrophic for others. Guess they could develop other techniques like wave, cyclic, or mirrored shutters that divide the image in two parts, thus reducing rolling shutter and noise, but introducing shapes in the rolling shutter defects.

      No they do. On DSMC2 it was pretty basic. On DSMC3 aka RAPTOR and KOMODO, it’s a massive step up. Not quite as complex and reliable as Canon, Sony or Panasonic, but defo usable in a lot of situations. Jake

      The only way to get higher framerates than the full sensor readout speed or data transfer speed limit internally with sensor readout to memory allows, without introducing artifacts like moire or aliasing from binning/line-skipping, is by cropping in (or switching readout modes if it has multiple, see C300 III). If anyone wants a reasonable alternative the Blackmagic 12K is $6300 and does 8K120 RAW and 12K60 with no crop. It's big and heavy and not for everyone but damn if its not a beast of a camera for a fraction of the price of the RED. As much as I love RED cams themselves Jim Jannard is really holding the industry back with his patent trolling. And lets not forget the REDMAG fiasco, $100 M.2 SSD in a Fancy enclosure and they still want $1400 for a 480GB one.
