Mitch is so angelic. One of the most gifted vocalists ever. Ever. This is one of their most stunning songs. I cry every time I listen... That involuntary reaction. 💜😊
They really have to win another Grammy for this! There is no other way. If they don't there is seriously something wrong with the panel. Absolutly stunning! And all a capella 🤯
Yes, this was so beautiful live during the Evergreen tour…which proves their talent…they sound so wonderful live…what a treasure! My family will never forget that concert! 😊❤️🎶

Hello Dave. This is Pure Pentatonix Perfection. A Capella at it's very best. Grammy #4 PLEASE for PTX. Mitch's talent and vocal mastery are beyond superb with his smooth tone, angelic voice, the notes he hits and holds, the runs, the vibratos - the voice of a generation. Scott with his operatic intonation singing in Italian. Matt on the bass underlying the arrangement. Kirstie sharp and belting. Kevin the master beat boxer driving the rhythm with drums and clashing cymbals. The solos. The duets. The crescendo. The bridge. The wall of sound. The videography. The message of hope in The Prayer. Astounding. Thank you for your reaction - it was spot on. Pentaholic here reporting for duty. Subscribed to your channel now and looking forward to more of your PTX reactions.
This song is overwhelming. When I need to feel whatever I am going through I play this at top volume and let the sound overwhelm me over and over again.
Totally agree -Tsunami of sound! Another reactor said that if there was a hospital for ears, they would be playing Pentatonix to heal them and I think that's so true! Also, yes, Mitch has a once in a generation voice. It is absolutely unique and heartbreakingly beautiful. Andrea Boccelli is an opera singer and Scott sings in a slightly classical style on this but it's not opera - it's Pentatonix style! It sooooo deserves a grammy. Crossing everything that they get one for this.
Such a beautiful song with their wonderful voices ... angelic 😇. "Guide us with YOUR grace. Give us faith so we'll be safe" a prayer needed for today!!
It's overwhelmingly beautiful. And you're the first reactor to call it a Wall of Sound. I'm a Synesthete, see sounds and hear colors and have always used the term Wall of Sound!!
Several years ago when my daddy was alive, I admitted to him that I cried when I heard great music. He smiled at me and said he did too. I love to share music for that very reason.
I Love Your Reactions ❤️ So Very True, Mitch Always makes me want to Cry because his voice is so Angelic!!!! And the only change to Pentatonix's lineup is the Bass singer. Avi Kaplan was with them from 2011-2017 & Matt Sallee is from 2017 to Now!!!! Scott Hoying (Baritone) he also takes over Bass when Avi or Matt is singing lead Mitch Grassi (Countertenor) Kirstie Maldonado (Mezzo Soprano) Avi Kaplan (Bass) 2011-2017 Matt Sallee (Bass) 2017 to Present Kevin Olusola (Tenor) & (CelloBoxing)
Yes! Was coming here to point out that both Kirstie and Mitch are chameleons and change their look constantly. The fact that you were speechless listening. Enjoy the pain. You will need a cigarette to recover from your eargasm.
@@trudiegentry-pears6810 No he is not. I have been to countertenor concerts, and there is a clear difference. Please look up Jakub Jozef Orlinski. He is a countertenor. It is a very specialized type of singing. Mitch never refers to himself as a countertenor because he knows he is not. Kevin is a tenor/baritone, who also sings a lot in falsetto.
This is one of my favorite PTX songs. I really hope they get a Grammy for this one. It's amazing and you described the way Mitch's voice hit's you perfectly.
I always have this feeling, when Mitch is singing, that God let one of his Angels, come down to earth, to give us hope, & allow us to feel his spirit in us 💞💞💞💞
This song was released last year, the Popspring concert you mentioned is from 2016, so it's not in there. But there's a live performance of it on RUclips from a morning tv show.
Dave. Hi. There is a new behind the scenes video of PTX “Making Evergreen” which has this song It’s a great behind the scenes showing them making this album last year. Highly recommend playing it for us
Man, you're reaction made me tear up cuz you are feeling EXACTLY what I feel!! Mitch's voice is angelic, painfully passionate and addicting! Just can't get enough of these guys!! 💞
Hi Dave, have enjoyed watching your reactions to Pentatonix. Did you know that Kevin the beat boxer also plays the Saxophone. He played at Carnegie Hall as a teenager, there is a PBS video of it on RUclips "Kevin Olusola Live at Carnegie Hall 2005" It's a good watch and listen.
Only 1 change in the line up. Avi left in 2017 and Matt took over. I heard this one just 30 minutes after it dropped and I'm still in awe over their version. It hits you in your soul as least it did to me. Thank you for your reaction.
This song gives me such chills. That ending was masterful. Every time you thought it was the end, they gave another little joy. I agree with you I expected Mitch to take it really high with the last note, but the restraint was so much better.
Such a great reaction! The first time I heard this version I said this deserves a Grammy! It is amazing! Gives me chills every time. Their arrangement is unbelievable.
Dude you will love the behind the scenes “making evergreen” it’s a behind the scenes look at them putting together last years album including this song. It’s a video on RUclips Play it for us. It’s such a fun look at their process.
Just found your channel and subscribed. Your reaction was one of my favorites to this song. It made my eyes water and now my cat is judging me. She probably wants food, but I want to see more of your reactions, which I'm going to look for now.🙂
Thanks for your excellent reaction!!! I have so many favorites of them it’s so hard to choose which one is my absolute favorite. I really loved your reaction though, have a blessed day!!
There is a live performance of this online. It's from their Evergreen tour this past Christmas. If there is any justice in this world they will get their 4th Grammy this year for this!
This is Pentatonix knowing their instruments so well and they have them so honed it is magical. This comment is a month after your reaction but when you talked about the Expressions on your face what many people haul the sound that they are hearing from Pentatonix and the pleasure that it brings is called an eargasm
At about 3:12 when they all hold that note before Mitch takes the next solo they sound almost like a pipe organ. Never heard that before with voices. Just jaw dropping. Tsunami. Pretty accurate.
I love your reactions. Showing your feelings makes for a terrific reaction - so much more enjoyable to watch than folks who are deadpan. Never apologize!
What a wonderful reaction! It was such a joy watching your face during this masterpiece and I can tell you really felt it! I cried when I heard this one for the first time.. and more times after the first hearing, it's beyond beautiful and I'm glad you liked it so much. And you described Mitch's voice perfectly, never heard such a voice in my entire life. Can't wait for your next reaction and btw you have a wonderful speaking voice 😊
Yes their are lives of this song, just search The Prayer live Evergreen Experience. There has only been 1 member change. In 2017, Avi (bass) left for personal/family reasons) He was replaced by Matt' shortly thereafter, same year. No other changes.
I know I'm late but as I was saying in the other video if you watch "the making of evergreen" you will see all of them listening to this mix in the production booth (not sure what to call it) and it's Kirstins first time hearing it and when she sings above after Mitch he says, "sing!". Also, when Mitch sings just like every chil il ild at the end Matt says there is the song or sauce right there!!!!. Kirstin says it's sounds so good, that got me pumped as hell and Scott says I am cold now bc I have chills all over. It also shows Scott amazingly freestyle arranging it with their arranger Ben Bram. There are so many other things in that that you would love as a producer and maybe you could teach us something we don't know at the same time. You are so right about Mitch's voice. It is so clean and his enunciation is the best and they all have said in interviews that he has the most amazing vocal control!! Thanks for another great reaction. This is one of the songs I had the nurses play for dad when he was dying.
Andrea Bocelli sang it with Celine Dion and Josh Groban sang it with her as well. All of what you described Mitch's voice to be is my personal Mitch slap. Every single time I hear his voice! I feel ya on how much it hurts. Music is a deeply emotional thing for me too. I sometimes use it as a way to have a good cry and purge pent up energy. To be a deep feeling person is both a blessing and a curse. HUGS!
They do NOT interchange members...they are all the same except for Avi (bass) who left after 6+ years by Matt, whose been with them not for almost 5 years. Fact: they don't record any video that can't sing live...another recommendation for you, they sing in other languages in their videos..."Papaoutia" (french), "Perfume Medley" (japanese), "Gangnam Style" (korean). The latter has a great blooper video !! ENJOY !!
This is my most favorite PTX upgrade to date ! Would love to see your reaction to Mitch doing AHA Live at Star Vista Singapore..... Yes, it is a cell phone video, but still strong enough to give you a big ol' MITCHSLAP :)
Dave, I’ve watched this video called DEFYING GRAVITY. It’s by 2 of the members from Pentatonix and they sing the song “Wicked”. I’m sure you’ve heard of it but their rendition is so good. I recommend you hear it my guy. Love your vids man.
You never named the faces other than Mitch and Scott. They’ve been together for over 10 years with only one personnel change when Avi left because his mother was sick and was shortly after replaced by Matt Sallee. They are all still good friends.
PopSpring is live! I love that video and 3 songs are originals and a Michael Jackson Evolution. You can play them individual but the whole concert is fantastic! Love it. Thank you for The Prayer!
The Five Faces of New Pentaholics 1. The most common is the Mitch Slapped. Commonly found when Mitch is heard for the first time in Hallelujah, The Prayer, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, and doing Aha! at the Star Vista. 2. The Wide Eyed Look of Disbelief. Normally found when you hear their Wall of Sound. Found when listening to Mary Did You Know, Imagine, The Prayer, and Mad World. 3. The I Didn’t Want It to End face. Most commonly found after listening to the 90s Dance Medley. It can also be found after listening to all their medleys and evolutions. 4. The Teary Eyed Look. This is commonly found when listening to an emotional song of theirs or just the sheer beauty of their work. Commonly found when listening to Mary Did You Know, Hallelujah, Amazing Grace, Imagine, The Prayer and most especially Thank You. 5. The What Did I Just Hear Face. Happens when Pentatonix starts strong, or when you hear a really special note or Kevin sound. Is usually accompanied by rewinding the video or song to make sure your ears really heard what they heard. Those times are too many to list, but the most common rewind at the start moment is the beginning of Sound of Silence.
Great reaction! If you enjoy "the wall of sound", I can't wait to see your reaction to their cover of John Lennon's Imagine. In that one, Kevin also sings a whole verse, and the whole video is very meaningful. By the way, there has only been one change in the 5 members. Avi Kaplan was their bass singer from 2011, when they first became a group, until late 2017. Since then, Matt Sallee has been their bass. The other 4, Mitch, Scott Kirstie and Kevin, were all there from the start.
Loved, loved, loved your reaction. I love this song and I especially love their rendition. Mitch was masterful!!!! If you really want the wall of sound, you need to react to Imagine by John Lennon. Such a powerful performance by PTX. Please watch THE RECORDING OF EVERGREEN. It is so amazing to see and hear how they divide the parts they sing and the total collaboration.
There has only ever been one change in the members of the group and that was the original bass Avi ( left for personal reasons ) was replaced by Matt. Mitch and Kirstin do like to change their look quite often.
It is only Avi and Matt who have changed - the other four members, Scott, Mitch, Kirstin and Kevin have been in Pentatonix since the start in 2011. Avi left in 2017 so Matt has been with Pentatonix for as long as Avi was now, but often doesn't get the credit for his amazing voice because everyone loved Avi so much. I loved Avi too but now we have is amazing solo stuff too and Matt is just as good but different. His bass may not go as low as Avi's but his range is wider - he can go up to a very high falsetto (listen to him live in Joyful Joyful or Hallelujah).
I am not a fan of Marcilito Pomroy's cover, if you go back and listen to the Original by Celine and Andrea Bocelli or Celine and Josh Groban you get a real feeling of the mastery of what Pentatonix did with this song. This should most definitely by their 4th Grammy!! They ended the song on an "Aeolian Cadence" which means the song resolved on the high 6th relative minor key that Mitch/Scott were singing above the supporting harmonies. Its a "grandiose" way to end big songs. Its one of the things that makes PTX so good at what they do, the way the play with chord structures and know how to do it so well.
In the eleven years since Pentatonix was formed, there has only been one change in the lineup. Avi Kaplan left the group in 2017 and was replaced by Matt Sallee. Every other group member has remained the same. Having said that, I've seen a LOT of reactors assume that there has been more than one member leaving the group. This is primarily due to two reasons: Mitch and Kirstin. Both of them have changed their looks drastically over the years, primarily with hairstyles and in Kirstin's case hair color. It legitimately throws people off, and it's easy to assume that there are different people, but in fact there was only one change.
The only person to leave Pentatonix was Avi Kaplan. He decided to pursue a solo career. He was replaced by Matt Sallee. No other changes. If you see a video with Avi than it's the "original" group. Anything with Matt is newer.
They have only had one line up change since the group was started. The original bass singer (Avi) left for personal reasons and the new bass (Matt) took his place.🙂
Please react to “Let Freedom Ring” by The Gaither Vocal Band live at Carnegie Hall. You will tear up. Please don’t miss it. The gentleman in the blue shirt is David Phelps. He has many songs that will blow you away!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I love your reactions and facial expressions. Don’t apologize; this is the way God made you. Your reactions are so much more fun to watch than folks who show no emotion.
I noticed that you haven't done their almost 680,000,000 viewed HALALUIJH! It put them on the map and is the origin of the "Mitch Slap" Another early origional is LOVE AGAIN! that is one of my favorites! Love your work! 🙂
You are right. Most people can't listen to this without facial reaction. Horrible but true, some of us have learned to internalize our reactions and keep the face unreactive due to lives that were not easy to live. Either way it is a beautiful song done beautifully. Glad you got to react to it.
There has only been one change of band members (which broke my heart) and that was Avi. But Matt. Oh my god, Matt. He is amazing and was the perfect man to step up to the plate. I miss Avi but my balm is Matt. In my opinion, he saved Pentatonix. Any less of a master musician would have brought the group down.
My fingers hurt from keeping them crossed so hard that they will be honored with a Grammy for this one. It's an absolute masterpiece, and it was released late enough that it was not eligible this year, but will be eligible next year.
Voting with you for PTX to get a well-deserved Grammy for this!!
Ditto!
ABSOLUTELY
Mitch should be protected by law as a national treasure! I think this is so well balanced among all the members and definitely deserving of a Grammy. I also love that Scott has a very strong tone to his Italian part without trying to sound operatic.
Pretty sure he's God.
THEY are god🤩
Still can't watch it without producing tears. I love all their work but this is their masterpiece. Beautifully done by beautiful artists.
Mitch’s 6 octave and one tone is indeed a gift Besides incredible range the clarity is simply spectacular. A voice of a generation.
Honestly if they don’t get a Grammy for this one, something is wrong with the Grammys !! This has to be the a Capella recording of the year
I dare anyone that listens to this to not be overtaken with emotions..I’ve heard just about everything from them..as a group and individuals..but this..this is EVERYTHING beautiful!
Agree, Iris...absolute masterpiece - A Capella at its very best. Musical geniuses.
There is the Mitch slap, and then there is the Mitch embrace.
This opening is the Mitch embrace.
I LOVE this so much.
Matt replaced Avi in 2017, that is the only member change. Scott, Kirstie, Mitch and Kevin are all OG
I saw them do this live on their Evergreen tour last year and it was everything you would expect with this brilliant group, absolutely SPECTACULAR 🙌🙌🙌
Yes, this was so beautiful live during the Evergreen tour…which proves their talent…they sound so wonderful live…what a treasure! My family will never forget that concert! 😊❤️🎶
I know, Mitch has the voice of an angel, and Kevin's timing is impeccable. Every time.
You basically felt that one in every cell of your body! Overstimulated. And can't blame you! They really get in there! Not only goosebumps and playing with the heartstrings! They mess it up! Hahha! Goodness, I love these absolute masters!
They are STUNNING!!! I Pray they win the Grammy this year... Unbelievably AMAZING !!!! LOVE THEM

This song is overwhelming. When I need to feel whatever I am going through I play this at top volume and let the sound overwhelm me over and over again.

I love that Mitch rendered you speechless, as did the 'tsunami of sound' 😁
Oh this one!! Mitch and scott😍😍 pure heaven
We call that being Mitch slapped.
I got to hear it live on their Evergreen tour.
Watch their recording of their album Evergreen. Pieces of this are in this as they work through the details.
No falsetto, Mitch is a true countertenor (can sing naturally as high as a soprano or mezzo soprano). The countertenor is the rarest of all voices...
The only person to leave Pentatonix was Avi Kaplan. He decided to pursue a solo career. He was replaced by Matt Sallee. No other changes. If you see a video with Avi than it's the "original" group. Anything with Matt is newer.
You can hear this live on their I heart radio Christmas special. It's even better than the video
watch the live version of joyful joyful from the evergreen experience, it is outstanding!
I’ve been watching it the last few days. Wow
Hello PENTAHOLICS..👋 I cant wait for you to react to their HAVANA cover...
They have only had one line up change since the group was started. The original bass singer (Avi) left for personal reasons and the new bass (Matt) took his place.🙂
Shallow is one of their beautiful songs too.😊
There was only one change with Avi by Matt in 2017.
They began there career after winning They Sing off.
Just one change. Avi left in 2017 and Matt took over. The other four are original members.
Recommend their I Just Called To Say I Love You.
Truly amazing
I love your reactions and facial expressions. Don’t apologize; this is the way God made you. Your reactions are so much more fun to watch than folks who show no emotion.
I noticed that you haven't done their almost 680,000,000 viewed HALALUIJH! It put them on the map and is the origin of the "Mitch Slap"
Another early origional is LOVE AGAIN! that is one of my favorites! Love your work! 🙂
I still want you to react to Kevin at age 17 at Carnegie Hall playing the saxophone!!!!!
Beautiful
I could have sworn I have been watching you react to PTX for a couple years now. Apparently I'm crazy. 😆
Nope. I did like 2 songs then stopped cause I didn’t know how to deal with the copyright issues then.
