We put a call out to a group of women asking them to be part of a project - to tell the world if they plan to have children. We wanted to tell a story about the transformative power that reproductive choice has on women’s lives and why it’s a right we should all protect.
At the same time, on the other side of the world, President Donald Trump was busy reinstating the Mexico City Policy (The Global Gag Rule), dramatically restricting reproductive choices for women and girls around the world. Since then, women have rallied together to fight for basic reproductive freedoms. As one of the largest global providers of sexual and reproductive health services in our region, Marie Stopes International Australia is on the front lines of the fight for reproductive rights.
We’ve developed the #mychoice campaign and this video to demonstrate the stark difference between contraceptive access for Australian women and the millions of women across the world who want to access modern contraception but can’t.
On November 21, 2017, we are asking Australian women and men for their support, by posting the video with the hashtag #mychoice and a caption about why it’s important to have access to contraception and what it’s meant for them.
