So that extra cable you pointed out in 9:20 is for a backlit keyboard. While it might not look like this model was built to accommodate such a feature, it actually works if you remove the top most connection and replace it with the backlit cable from the new keyboard. I just did it, so I'll find out if the cable it replaced was important or not pretty soon.
aaaand the cable it replaced is for the power button. So if you do what I said above, you'll have a nice backlit keyboard, but no power button and no sleep mode when the laptop is folded.
I'm sitting here with the same issues. I never pulled the screws out of the back of the computer. Just removed frame from the keyboard by carefully prying. The keyboard easily popped out. Disconnect the ribbon, connect new ribbon and carefully install the new one. Turn on the computer and check that the new keyboard is correctly installed before you snap the new keyboard into place. No need to mess with removing 6 screws from the back. The new keyboard comes with a new frame so do not panic iff you break he old one getting it out
I'm encouraged to try replacing my own. I've been using the keyboard found in accessories. My laptop is Toshiba and I can only see notches on the top bar where the function keys are. Hopefully it's just a matter of the different device.
Thank you..my keyboard was not sensing some keys since the cord had slightly detached after a minor repair and almost bought a new one..but the procedure saved me.
You don't have to remove ANY screws! There are NO SCREWS connected to the keyboard. The only thing you have to do is press down the tabs at the top like he shows. You are only wasting time by taking out screws that have nothing to do with the keyboard.
Just try it for yourself. Press down the five release tabs at the top of the keyboard and it will lift right out without having to remove a single screw from the back. As you can see in the video at 7:57, there are no screw holes on the backside of the keyboard. There are four anchor points for the protective plastic cover over the back of the keyboard, but no holes for screws to go into.
Am having the same issue with my daughter dell laptop as well , I want to purchase a new keyboard on amazon but am not sure of the one to buy can you help me out pls how do I purchase the one that fit
NB-note that these keyboards are not the same. The original has no F10 back light icon. The replacement keyboard does. That extra ribbon in the back (of the replacement) is for the back light. The second ribbon was never hooked up-so the F10 back light will not work. Sometimes you can "upgrade" to a backlit keyboard; sometimes you cannot. It depends upon the motherboard. Check your model number and serial with Dell to make sure. If the recipient of this "fixed" keyboard tries to use the backlight F10 button he's in for a frustrating experience....
I cant answer that, look at the listing you are purchasing from and see if your Laptop model is listed or see which Laptops its for and see if both numbers are there. Always talk to the seller before purchasing if you are not sure.
@@arorajivlogs1641 That's correct-it won't work. No F10 back light icon on original keyboard. New keyboard has F10 back light icon. 2nd ribbon is for back light which was not hooked-up.....
Well is there a backlit keyboard available for it and does your device allow a connector to power the backlit keys? If it lack any if these it will not work.
If your Power button is on the Keyboard it would mean its not connected properly. Check all Keyboard connections or Re-seat the Keyboard as you most likely made a mistake.
My laptop was beeping this same laptop I just got a new keyboard because sometimes the caps lock will go on and off and I fixed the laptop but it’s still beeping when turning On
@@rickytlc1985 I had replaced it with a new keypad . But what happened is now some others keys were not working on that new keypad. I'm confused whats tha actual problem is ? The new keypad not seemed to be of original brand. That may be the reason. I have a Dell Inspiron laptop.
I just spilled iced tea on my Dell Inspiron 15, 3000 series. I shut it down and wiped the liquid off the keyboard.. Turn3d it on and it worked but then the system said they detected an error and would restart after. And then i only saw the blue screen of death. I don't think we really care what's wrong with the old keyboard, just how to put the new one in. Too much time spent on useless knowlege in the first quarter of the vid.!

That extra small cable is for the illuminated keys' power. Did you really have to undo screws on the bottom of the laptop?
Where did you buy your specific replacement keyboard? It’s because I can’t find the one you bought which I need
Thank You for the easy to follow instructions. I appreciate the help.
Really happy the directs were clear.

Good luck let me know how things turn out.
Not sure if this was already said but the other extra cable is for backlight capabilities.

it lasted 4 years for me

Remember to have ribbon facing up. Otherwise it wont work. You might have to crease it as tidy as you can.
Thanks for the additional pointer.

I bought a new keyboard for mine but the one that came is with backlit and I done see a slot to plug the light ribbon in how can I get it to work
Could you please tell me why it is necessary to take out the battery?
While working on your device is always smart and for safety to unplug and disconnect all sources of power.
Not necessary at all, just unplug the power supply cable and turn off your device.
Where do you buy the replacement?
Amazon or ebay.
From where I can buy it please tell me website name
Hello, i bought the same keyboard for my 3000 series, how can i plug the backlight connector too ?
Your laptop would need to support the backlight and have the connection, otherwise you cant connect the lights. It still works fine though.
Could you share me where was you bought the replacement keyboard?
Amazon

Are you sure you connected the new one properly? Try a USB Keyboard and see if it works? that will give you a solid idea as to whats going on.
