Hisoka has probably the simplest ability. It has no crazy rules or mechanics. It streches, sticks and bounces. Thats it. Simple but exceptionally effective because Hisoka has perfected his style. Fantasic writting at work.

It was my understanding that electricity is almost impossible to transmute because it still affects the user and most people wouldn't be able to handle the pain. It was stated by Biscuit that Genthru was immune to his own explosions via a quick application of aura to guard his hands. In other words, unlike in a lot of other anime/fiction, Nen users aren't inherently immune to their own abilities. Killua can transmute electricity because he's managed to learn how to ignore the pain it causes.
Yeah. You can also see it with Feitan. He needs an own armor to survive his own move. I really like the concept of you can get burned or shocked to death. A really good way of limitating Character powers

Fun-Fact: Wing is an Idiot. If you happen to be an Enhancer, please, by all means, use Enhancement+Conjuration to get Rich by Selling Power-Enhancing-Pills/Tablets. Same for Transmuters, really: The main-concern of this Type is always to not hurt yourself but still get a Use out of youre Transmuted Aura, but that makes me think that just transmuting a flavorless, colourles, effectless Substance and filling it into (real/normal OR conjured) Containers should allow you to basically make Potions of various Effects.
Fun-Fact: SHAPING youre Aura is also Transmutation but that's usually Overlooked.

Yet, he is so pale. I like to think when Feitan was younger he was tortured in hot conditions all the time, making him more of an indoor person latter in life. This also lead to his sadistic side.

I’m suprised that morel didn’t use conjuration for deep purple, as that could also probably make smoke, and is closer to his own type. It could be more effective, and do the same thing.

The problem is that smoke made from conjuration is that without some significant restrictions added to its use, it would be normal smoke and not anywhere near as version its use.
@@Varkas108 Not sure that's entirely necessary. Perhaps the Gas is part emission and Conjuration. It is possible to combine the techniques, considering Kurapika's judgment chain uses both emission and Conjuration. While not a great restriction, The use of Morel's pipe can be one.

If I was a Transmuter I would try to mimic the properties of Iron, blood, and water. The link between the substances would allow me to interchange my Aura's properties more easily. Changing my aura to mimic Frozen Blood, to Iron, to liquid Blood, to water vapor. The training would probably be hard though.

Not quite! So he transmutes his aura to have those properties but because he conjures a suit to protect him from his own transmuted aura, he’s able to do it without any of the said effects. Plus his ability is strengthened by the conditions he has placed on it. Imagine Feitan in the state that Netero was in after Zero Hand. Feitan’s ability would probably kill him, and anyone else within a LARGE radius with that blast.

Most transmuters developed their hatsu that are connected to their childhood memories and experiences, like Killua he transmuted his aura to electricity because eversince as a child his family trained him as an assasin and that involving to be immuned to electricity and Hisoka hatsu bungee gum came from his favorite bubble gum brand name when he was a child. And in Feitan case I am sure he had a rough childhood because he transmuted his hatsu similar to the properties of fire or sun, maybe he got tortured by fire or he got involved to fire accident when he was a child considering his rough personality.

Loved the vid again. Honestly Transmutation is probably my favourite Nen Types as it is so versatile. You definitely cleared up some points about the differences in conjures and Transmuters as well as morel's true affinity. I also find it funny how the Zoldyck family are so Black and white that every family member (bar Maha) are literally on the opposite side of the men ring from each other. What ability do you think you'd have if you were a transmitter?

If I were transmuter I would transmute heat/fire or explosion it would be hard to transmute explosion though but heat would be hard fire even most people have been burned before so it wouldn't be hard for that
Maha is confirmed as an enhancer.
As for your ability you could practice transmuting your aura into pure raw heat rather than fire however you would need to find a way to get a total understanding of this element without burning yourself to a crisp.

Morel is a poster child for being able to use even a category that is opposite one's own natural affinity. This goes in the face of people who think that nen users are "limited" because of their natural born affinity. Nope. In Morel's case, he is able to use transmutation at a high level on the condition that he needs to use his pipe to produce the smoke.
Also to note: Transmutation is not just changing aura properties. It also involves changing aura shapes- which is actually the more basic exercise of the category. So, shaping aura into a dragon, or sword, or an impression of a number or skull, is transmutation. Morel changes his into bunnies and humanoid shapes, among lots of other things.

@@renblais1274 yes he is a manipulator. However, he is also using transmutation and emission in his ability. It's a theme in the 3 of them that debuted in the chimera ant arc (him, netero, knov). They're examples of mature hunters that have branched out of their natural affinities.
It's not entirely real smoke (hence why it can exist underwater). Or perhaps not always entirely smoke (there's some confirmation of this in the manga, hence why it's even mentioned in this video or up in the wiki). It's also his aura transmuted into (or how I like to think of it: "into the") smoke. It's not explained in the series, so what follows is somewhat theory, but you could think of it much like the way he does his puppets (which was explicitly explained). There's a mixture in there somehow, like a heterogeneous mixture of nen and smoke particles.
Remember that smoke is not a single object but rather is particulates. If it was all smoke particles that he manipulates, he would need a container (much like gaara's sand gourd), and would have a limited supply of particles. The volume of that pipe does not seem to correspond with the amount of "solid smoke" he is able to output (if it was purely particles), and the upper limit to deep purple is not to a fixed volume (i.e. the pipe), but to his aura reserves.
At the very least, he would be extending the volume of smoke particles using nen; at best, fully transmuting his aura into smoke (which is supported by the manga) merely becoming visible by virtue of real smoke particles mixed in.
No transmuter is just change quality not shape even biscy training of manipulation depend on this

@@8100era I think you will be disappointed reading the manga because there's a lot of exposition in some chapters rather than drawings and dialogues. I mean the plot is still great but the wordings is quite lot to handle for me.
Can you imagine an MMO based on the Hunter x Hunter universe where you can develop your own hatsu? Would be very difficult to do a good job making such a video game but the payoff would be tremendous.
They'd have to focus heavily on the creativity aspect of nen, because half-assing anything in that game would cause it to bomb

@@inFamous_Izanagi Very difficult, but not impossible. I imagine you would design your nen yourself, Spore style. Like literally create it in 3D, give it color and texture. Then you could choose from a few different types of damage with subtypes (physical ＞ piercing/striking/blunt/poison/bleed etc or magical ＞ fire/cold/psychic/pure magic (arcane?) etc) and then you could add effects to it like disorientation, incapacitation, damage over time, healing, shielding, and so on. A huge number of premade animations to use your abilities. An item designer if you went with conjuration, character designer if you use a nen beast. I can definitely see it working, and it would be amazing. But would take a loooot of effort and resources to pull off.
Just the fact that there's such discussion about how characters incorporate different branches of nen to reach a desired effect is the reason why I love nen. If you can cook it up in your head you can make it happen, and the level of nuance that nen battles involves when it comes to decifering your opponent's nen is nothing short of amazing.

Transmutation is usually the most flexible nen abilities in my opinion because it gives you a "property". Being able to "mind control" for example is very specific, while "controlling thunder" is way more versatile. As Killua shows. Its way broader so it lets you have way more options!

When this series is over you should do a what-if battle royale with natural users of each nen affinity. For example: team enhancers ( netero, gon, uvo etc) vs team transmuters ( Killua, Hisoka, Zeno etc) vs teams for manipulation, conjuration, emission, and specialization.
I mean sadly netero would just use 99 hands and everyone would be blown away

I would transmute my aura to be like titanium-alloy that I could transmute on my body like armour and than strengthen it with enhancement I think the best part about it would be that I could than focus more of my aura in offence with ko than defence I would also dedicate as much training as I had to for the ability to manipulate the shape of the metal however when transmuting it to begin with I would be able to decide the shape it starts as I would only need to use manipulation to change it afterwards.
Very interesting ability, I like how you used Enhancement to complement Transmutation, which honestly not enough Tranmuters do in the series.
Personally, I was thinking of something similar, mimicking the properties of iron, blood, and water. This would allow quick change between the properties due to their link, providing a versatile amount of use through solid iron, frozen blood, liquid blood, and water vapor.
Only flaw I see is that it seems complicated but if you can grasp all of its aspects properly at any given moment then it sounds great.
However does the ability rely on manipulation?
Replace the titanium-alloy with diamond. Not only do you have unparalleled, near-indestructible defence, a strong diamond-imbued Ten capable tanking immensely powerful blasts, aura or conventional, you could also have a super sharp, nigh-unstoppable offence, transmuting the aura around your limbs, fingers and body into extremely sharp, monomolecular diamond blades, capable of slicing through even the toughest of materials. Plus, added restrictions and an 80% Enhancement affinity on the diamond blades would make them even deadlier.

Feitan has a self imposed transmutation he first has to receive pain to transmute into heat he also then has to conjure the pain packer armor and then has to have enough reserve oxygen in the suit to last the duration of the transmuted pain which isn’t a guarantee that’s why feitan only converts small amounts of pain at a time so he doesn’t risk lack of reserved oxygen it’s has a very steep self imposed rule to activate

Really enjoy your vids, hoping you could help me out I’ve been trying to get my head around the familiarity aspect for transmutation and Feitan’s and Zeno’s abilities are very difficult for me to understand because how can they be familiar with a Sun and Dragon respectively?
I assume it's because feitan grew up in meteor city, which is an arid dessert environment. So he has a decent idea of the feeling of heat and uses his conditions to increase the power of his sun. Which on its own, probably wouldn't be very lethal due to his experience with heat not being that extreme.
As far as zeno goes, it's implied that the zoldics have pet dragons and his knowledge comes from caring and interacting with them. Though it shouldn't be that hard for him anyway, since he just seems to be mimicking it's shape which is basic transmutation.
Give Feitan some of Killua's kindness and Zeno's Nen and you have a discount Hiei

Also if I remember correctly, Morel can only create his nen smokes through his pipe. So to actually use transmutation with his natural affinity to a powerful degree, he still need some restriction or else it won't be as powerful as those who have natural transmutation affinity.
It would be cool to be able to your nen into like Ice/Frost as an ability. You could send freezing blasts, you could summon ice armor or spikes. Or if you had a really good en you could quickly create a blizzard. Liquid Metal which you could alter the shape of quickly would be cool as well.
I like how you focused on Morel and exactly how he goes about some of his more complex uses of Transmutation despite it being his natural opposite. The core of his smoke warriors is likely how he incorporates his natural Manipulation to control them without needing direct line of sight...as a result, they are also fairly fragile as I recall. On the other hand, his more simple uses such as the disguised smoke rope during his duel with Cheetu or the air lines during the Leol fight are much sturdier

I think the difference is in Transmutation, the nen never leaves your body. It still connected while mimicking the properties of an object.. While in Conjuration, it makes you create a copy of the object itself, thus need of nen separation from the body.

I would hazard a guess that Morals pipe is a condition set to strengthen his ability to transmute his nen to smoke, making the distant placement on the circle not as much of an issue.

To be able to transmute fire would that mean you would have to have been getting burned constantly or at least been very close to fire for a very long time? I feel like Botobai is probably that fire user and is strong enough to be completely heatproof.
If you’d study it good enough you probably won’t have to experience it a lot to transmute it
The question is does aura protect you from heat and cold. If so you practice ten or Ren while having some part of your body exposed to flames.

Conjuration is actually one of the least useful and most useful nen types all at the same time. There is really no in between.
The lower end this means that you used up your nen to conjure something up at the cost of your defense. This is contrast to manipulators/emitters who can be completely out of harm's way when attacking and enhancers/transmuters who can use thier nen as both offense and defense at the same time.
On the master level though, the only limit is your imagination and your nen pool. Master conjurers can quote literally imbue the objects they conjure up with special properties, conjure up other dimensions and create life itself. It's quite literally a deus ex machina at the hands of the right users.

Biscuit has such a useful ability when you think about it. She could basically allow someone (or multiple people) to get back a third of their lives by them not needing to sleep more than 30 minutes. It may not be great for combat, but you could just avoid conflict and live a nice life.

@@cartaphilus242 me too. I mean in the series we almost only see nen users in combat, being a nen user doesn’t mean you have to be a fighter. You could just enjoy life with your awesome power. Kinda like what neon was doing.

If Morel's smoke isn't normal smoke, then it must be conjured. At the very least, there must be either real smoke or Conjuration involved in his techniques. Nen constructs made to be mistaken for real physical objects/people need to have some physical form, either a real object (like Tocino's balloon soldiers) or one made with Conjuration (like Kastro's doppelganger). Nen constructs made of pure aura with no physical medium, such as Goreinu's gorillas, would never be mistaken for real people/animals.
No, I don't think it's ever stated outright that Nen users can tell the difference, but doesn't that go without saying? Do you want to argue that a Nen user would need the help of someone who isn't a Nen user to spot the real people in a crowd of smoke troupers?

@@jobsidian4219 Also the fact that Morel is the master of Shoot, someone who is also a Manipulator, appears to have Conjured his Hands. So, with that in mind, it's hard from the realm of possibilities Morel conjured the Gas instead of Transmuting.
What also makes bungee gum so great is that it’s a mimicry of two substances rather then one; I’d say killua’s biggest weakness as a transmuter is that he only use one substance; if he were to include something like water, he’d be able to use it like a super conductor for his electricity.

Idk why I always thought of this even if I knew I am ultimately wrong but Silva has yellow hair and thought of him be a natural emitter! Also, I do not recall in the manga stating that Silva is a transmutter. Let me know what yall think
Had an interesting transmutation idea of turning nen into sound waves. Not be confused with Melody’s ability, who’s an emitter. Basically turning sound as a physical weapon. Could possibly turning my voice into a sonic scream. Even fall it under manipulation. Have my vocal cords sound like someone else. Also thought of another ability that involves nen beast that I call, whisper swarm. Small insects that fly into a person’s ear. That activates the ability, “inner thoughts.” Basically a certain number of people hear something in their head. My voice pretending to be them. Hearing it constantly would drive a person insane. Also, have a post-nen ability involving a banshee-like nen beast that I’m still working on.
For sure I would wish my nen affinity to be Transmuter. It's so versatile and there are so many things you could turn your aura into I dont even know what I would transmute my aura into. Something like Wood Release from Naruto would be ridiculously overpowered but it's something I would try and go for.
When I think transmuted aura, solid objects are not what comes to mind
Liam - I like you, but I really think you're wrong about Morel.
I really do think Aura of Smoke could just be bad wording and even then, I think describing smoke as an aura is a fair IRL description of it. Smoke bubbles can form underwater, and it makes sense to me that Morel can manipulate them into the structures he used against Leol.
It just makes too little sense to carry round that giant pipe, which isnt much of a restriction as its also a versatile weapon, and not have it be central to the the hatsu.
Happy to be proven wrong, big fan of both channels, but I really disagree that Morel's smoke is transmuted.

That intro was the best thing i have ever seen...
I took one of those online tests long ago and it told me I would be a transmuter. Since I’m a science nerd and it’s an anime I’ve decided I would study antimatter and learn to transmute my aura into antimatter particles. I would conjure something that decreases pressure around it and enhance it to create a vacuum that keeps the antimatter from exploding. Then I would either blast it at people, set it as traps, or use it kind of like that bomber man ability. It would create insane destructive force. It would also be impossible to dispel, block, or even understand for almost everyone. My ultimate trump card move which would also probably kill me unless i used it in just the right situation would be enhancing it somehow to increase the density to the point where it becomes a black hole that sucks in everything and is constantly exploding with the force of multiple rose bombs everytime it sucks something in. Lol quarantine.
It sounds cool, but I think that an ability that powerful would have need some limitations, besides actually understanding something something that complicated. Like having to explain how your ability works and make them understand it. Or make the traps work for a limited amount of time. Otherwise, you would need to be Netero level of powerful to pull it of.
It’s not as simple as making a power and being like okay done, it’d take a ridiculous amount of Nen to pull off something like that and years of training to achieve that.
Do you know how accurate your control would have to be to avoid destroying yourself along with everyone around you? Make a ball of antimatter the size of your fist and you'd wind up destroying the whole city you're in. If your aura interacts with your own body you could accidentally blow up the entire solar system. Nitroglycerin would be a safer substance.

@@MisterRorschach90 Did I not just hand you a buffed up Bakugo on a silver platter. Nitroglycerin still gives you a powerful explosive without risking the entire solar system. For other options you could mimic protons to create a magnetic shield and accelerate your aura before emmitting it. There are many paths to power with nen.
