thanks excellent video. I’ve just bought a 1998 XR 100r and after checking the engine out I think it needs at least new rings. The engine sounds good but keeps failing. The plug have tried adjusting the carburettor by recusing it and given it a really good clean out it had old fuel from sitting for a long time. when I open the dipstick oil is a lot of air blowing out. so I’m thinking the rings are worn. thanks for your video. It’s made the process look a little bit more easier than I thought.
Just want to say thanks for being so thorough with this video, im 15 and just bought a project xr80, and this video REALLY helped me out for my first engine rebuild. Thanks man!
NO NO NO NO NO NO!!! Arrow faces toward the exhaust!!!! Your piston is 180 degrees backwards! Another indication will be the intake indentation on the piston will be larger than the exhaust indentation. (Intake valve bigger) Everyone freaks out about the chain dropping down. Just use a telescopic magnet to fish it up instead of trying to hold it up and getting in the way. Just did rebuild and learned this so passing it on. Especially if you are removing the cylinder, as you can almost just reach it with your fingers.
I have a Hondaxr100r 1987 motor runs so good it’s crazy how good it runs for the age I’m questioning if it’s been rebuilt recently or if it just haven’t been ridden much what yoy think is more likely? It’s just crazy how smooth it sounds
@Everatti so In the video there is no arrow on the piston. There is an “N” stamped into the top of the piston to indicate that is the intake side of the piston.
@@LOWCOUNTRYDIY Okay my mistake. Going to see if I can check through the spark plug hole so I don’t have to pull the whole thing apart again today haha. Thanks for the quick reply, video was super helpful

Did you home the cylinder in your rebuild? I’m trying to figure out if I have to, it looks good to me
What tebud kit did you use
@@McDizzleDrizzleyea you should so the new rings have good cross hatching to seat.

Possibly just has low hours or could have been rebuilt. Hondas are hard to beat. Enjoy it and thank for watching.
Can you re use the head gasket?
Gasket sealant help?
Thank you so much!
You’re welcome, thanks!
Your piston is 180 out. You said it backward. Arrow points to the exhaust. Larger cutout is for intake valve.
Thanks for watching
Just realizing this now. And I just torqued everything to spec. Looks like I have to take it all back apart down to the rod..
