Uhh okay soo I'm working on this and it's kinda widening as I go? Is there a way that I can fix that and crochet it straight or does it correct itself when I finish it off?
Why sew? Chain half of the width you need and crochet on the backside of the chain. Three stitches increase on each end. No sew. Makes a pouch that turns into a cat hat. No sewing needed.

That will happen a bit naturally but it shouldn’t be a huge change in size, just try to keep your tension tight as you finish
