Perfect for doing some noob html in front of your cilent
that is if I can do it without googling how to
@@shubhang2877 Give yourself this Challenge. Everyday at a Specific time you make a Basic HTML and CSS website using only Notepad or Vim. No googling or anything. If you have a feature to implement Google about it the day before and Try to memorize how it's implemented.
I actually LOL at this comment
@@asandax6 oh my gosh i was just kidding lol
@@shubhang2877 hehe
Imagine if this WAS the operating system. A minimalistic linux shell, with some UI elements like this would be amazing.
Yeah
@@jeremieh5009 1 more 👍
i wish
Let's do it
@@DuvibdDuvusbudhd Lets!
This is the most wonderfully horrific thing I've seen in a long time. It burns through CPU, crashes, has bugs, and quickly becomes annoying; but I am *definitely* using this. The other nerds are going to be so envious.
So... Windows 10?
what else would you expect from Electron, lol
Same, trying to seriously use it, cause it looks so legendary I'm crying. Ran into errors and now it's refusing to load. =[
@@jan_harald Seriously? Damn, what a shame
Sadly the windows version is really unstable.. i suggest running it in a VM instead of directly in windows.
Finally, I have an overwhelming yet interesting UI to impress my friends with
I've never understood this attitude in computer users. My computers are for me to use, I could care less what someone looking over my shoulder thinks about my desktop. To me, a computer is a "tool" for getting work done and for entertainment, it's not a "fashion accessory" - buy "Snapple" products if you want something the matches the colour of the shirt you are wearing.
Imagine this on a Semi-transparent 4k touchscreen OLED display...
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is an actual use for them.
Xiaomi has one! So...😊
@Sidekick 95 Ooof...
@Sidekick 95apparently you don't live in a country where xiaomi sells stuff
Only those who live in countries where we have the privilege to buy them, know that xiaomi products are much better
Bloody hell mate, now my computer can look like a stereotypical hacker screen. I don't know if I'll ever disable it...
Wish youtube had /remindme!
Sucks some nice cpu resources on older systems tho 😁 the price we pay for the glorious hollywood style hacking look 😁
@@dylancoulbeck7483 even on my Macbook, it likes to take up a decent chunk of resources. Can feel it being sluggish, but hey, style points are worth it!
@@alexwolfeboy I mean I use terminator which is more lightweight and robust, split the terminal layout as you see fit and theres your "hacking console" lol
But I use linux, the terminal is extremely important in linux as a whole, OS X is designed for point and click
Yes... we shall call it KALIDEX
LOL
I want an entire distro that looks like this!!!
Ok THAT would rock.
Count me in. This'd be absolutely epic.
SIGN ME UP!!
Reminds me of the "Movie-OS" storyline in "User Friendly".
use Arch lol
0:27 showing password to people standing behind - priceless

use tron no-type
You're already doing that on a tablet or phone.
Oh no, they're bittorrenting SDRAM into the firewall's IRQs! Quick, override the buffers!
yes exactly
If we disconnect the mainframe from the system's output we'll be able create a 2 way traffic network and thus creating more time before our system gets hacked
Every tv show hacker gibberish ever
let's hope it works...
otherwise we may have to spoof their TCP stack and sniff the registers in order to break their encryption through SSH using the GPU
ENHANCE! oh wait, that's a different show.
I can feel the pain of override the buffer
@@dutchdykefinger I have an idea that's... _just... crazy... enough..._ to work. Let's reroute all the warp plasma to the main deflector dish, configure it to emit an inverse tachyon matrix burst, and before you know it we'll be riding along a transwarp corridor like a _champ_ 👍🖖 I mean, if we're outta subspace internet communication range they can't hack us, right? Pretend like I'm wearing a hair clip over my eyes, I feel like it'll boost my credibility somehow.
I've waited since the 90s for a computer UI like this!

Ah yes, they finally managed to bloat a terminal emulator.
woot! so glad this fun little project is finally getting more exposure. found it myself while browsing around github a couple years ago, and have been following GitSquared on twitter ever since.
Nice short video to the point, no fluff, WELL DONE ! Subscribed
Awesome! This is really cool, thanks for sharing Jason
As a nerd, I appreciate the details that are often missed or even over-looked to the detriment of completeness.
edex-ui is cross-platform, and not just a Linux Terminal App; the devs have spent a lot of time to make something that works on Windows, Linux, macOS, and since it supports the linux 32bit kernel, it can probably be ported to android NDK.
they have not... it's just stinkin' Electron app...
@@jan_harald oh yes. I forgot how easy it is to integrate macOS framework calls into electron apps.
Sorry. In case you weren't sure, that was sarcasm.
the only thing that's missing is 100 windows popping up when you start typing. Then you have the perfect movie experience
If anyone asks: "It's a Unix system".
🤭
Yo Same profile pic holy shit😅

to be honest, TempleOS does that, it has no networking, but hye
I love this channel. Definitely can't wait till it gets popular :)
eDEX-UI running while listening to "Volkor X - Enclave" and messing with "bpytop", "nvtop", "tree", "newsboat", "ranger", "cmatrix","figlet" and "lolcat" is love.
Wow! That looks so Awesome!!!
You will find number of subscribers for your channel increased by one now.
Thank you so much 😀
I forgot about this video, glad youtube brought it to my attention again
Late to the party, but here's your StarTrek background noise:
$ play -n -c1 synth whitenoise band -n 100 20 band -n 50 20 gain +10 fade h186400 1
"play" is from the "sox" package; at least in Debian.
You might have to adjust the gain; and be aware that, due to the very low frequencies, this isn't audible at all or sounds really bad on most cheap/laptop speakers. Use speakers with a decently large main driver.
That was freaking perfect.
Music to my ears!
I'mmmmm.....Captain James T. Kirk!
Awesome, can't wait to try it!
I haven't used Linux since 2012. Never saw this video till today, three years after the video was posted. Giving me something to install on Linux. Thanks a lot.
This looks really interesting. Great video!
Man, I remember seeing ASCII Star Wars twenty years ago and wondering why it wasn't a bigger meme. Has its time finally arrived?
Well I'm sure trying to make people see how awesome it is!
This looks fantastic! I wouldn't know about the new Tron inspiration as I've never seen it (hell, I didn't even think much of the original), but this I've got to get. Bonus that I can also use it in Windows.
That looks fun! Thanks for sharing.
Yeah! I've been waiting since 1990 for a UI that looks like it's 1990!
That's F*** Awesome. Thanks for the great share!
running cmatrix in this app is the icing on top
Amazing!!! Thanks for your video!!!!
That looks super awesome
Already downloaded less than 30 seconds in, absolutely amazing!
That's so cool!! Instant sub!
i saw this on the explore page on github and forgot about it until a few days and I couldn't for the life of me find it again, but now it found me!
That looks wicked cool! Gonna check iut out for Mac Os. Thanks for sharing 😁
Dude, you made my day. Thank you
Glad to hear it! Thanks for the comment Dejan!
You're right. It's the sounds that do it for me too.
the thing is its _actually usable_
like you can actually browse your file system _and_ monitor your system resources!
just like a file manager and top! but now its in javascript great!
@@hen6003 ohw yeah but do we have any other terminal that displays it like this :P
This reminds me of the game Uplink. Great times.
The perfect time has come . Even a simple terminal emulator is now made in electron.
nope nope nope.
I do not understand the Electron hate. Electron is everything Sun Microsystems wanted the JVM to be.
@@codeman99-dev with all the drawbacks jvm turned out to have, but on steroids
It came way before this one. Hyper.js is an electron terminal
@@markhaus and unlike edex, does not swallow your system whole ;p
I don't think this quite qualifies as "simple".
Wow ! That was very Cool !
Ty for putting this on my radar is dope! Honestly this isn't bad for a parrot or a khali machine that's all terminal work any wayz lol. I love it.
An electron-based "Terminal App"?
Isn't that a contradiction in itself?
I put a terminal app in your terminal, so you can terminal while you terminal.
looks great!
For messing with files, this is actually more useful than both my terminal and file explorer - it's 2 in one! :D
God dang. BEST THING EVER! I’m gonna download and use this ASAP...
This is amazing!
.... The closing music is cool!!
The hollywood script has been bugging out for me so this looks like a great option to look like hackerman 😎😎 👌
its amazing!! I like it
this 0:06 was literaly the first time ever on youtube a intro of some sort was not anoying ... really loved it ..... and the interface is fokin awesome !
Kind of an ASMR-ish intro, right? Glad you enjoyed it.
Looks awesome.
That's totally cool. I haven't ever seen anything like this. I gonna try this I don't know if I'll use this for only 20 mins or a year but 1 time I'll use it for sure..
man.... now i need to download this and install it.. THANKS :D
On Zorin OS, I like: KeepNote, you can store your class notes, TODO lists, research notes, journal entries, paper outlines, etc in a simple notebook hierarchy with rich-text formatting, images, and more. Using full-text search, you can retrieve any note for later reference. I keep everything from Order lists, Bible Quotes to Monthly Bank statements on it. Also Clipit, Clipboard manager with features such as: * Save history of your last copied items * Search through the history * Global hotkeys for most used functions. Goes hand in hand with KeepNote
Thank you for showing this to me :o
A top video, straight to the point
We all have distros to try, games to play and life to live 😁
That Star Wars thing is amazing
good shot!
That’s very cool ! As to your request for cool things to share - have a look at OSQuery if you haven’t already. Very cool SQLite virtual table database containing over 200 tables related to the current state of your machine.
I am taking note of this thing!
Awesome!! 🙂
broo. thank you soo much
Thank you for the video very much been trying to make my linux like that for years . . I partially succeeded and I honestly still do not dare to upgrade my linux version because I don't want to lose the GUI I spend hours creating . . now I can !! The only thing missing is some 8-bit playlist
PS: I am not a programmer :-)
Nice, thanks.
That looks so cool
I absolutely love this but also "shoulder surfing made easy" if you ever sudo in public lol
You can disable it (or remove the keyboard completely)
Something you may want to watch out for - the on-screen keyboard mirrors input, even passwords, so you might want to disable the keyboard module if you intend to create more videos using this
Opsec lives matter.
Thats awesome terminal
Wow that's amazing
LOVE IT
super cool thanks :)
i love it i hope i will see it for android tablet soon
That looks amazing! I'll never use it as it uses too much screen space for things I don't care about. But, hell, that looks amazing!
I've installed and ran it. Now I'm off to get a hoody and a anonymous mask. Great find!
LIke finally something to look forward too!!!!!!!!!!!!! that ui is sick!
This was a super cool opening.
Thanks! I wanted to capture how it felt every time you fire up EDEX-UI :D
It's so freaking cool!!!
It is a shame that eDEX-UI is no longer maintained.
This is fricjing great! I'm going to try it.....right away.
I immediately knew it from the thumbnail, lol, too bad it's electron...
if you apply a few custom tweaks to the theme, it's awesome (I take the amber theme, add colors from another, hide the keyboard and globe, tweak the system info to display properly and not squished together, etc, makes it a lot better for actual use rather than showing off, since I don't have a touchscreen)
Oh it's electron, that's way it uses so much CPU while doin nothing. My god electrons app are bad.
This absolutely made my day, even better when you run bpytop in it too!
WHY didn't I run bpytop in it and show that off!?
@@LinuxForEveryone not enough caffeine that day?
That is VERY possible, Dean.
Awesome video.....
what i feel like finding the ; i forgot in my javascript after 2 hours of troubleshooting
So cool !
I know I might be a heratic saying this but being able to change directories with a mouse or at least constantly have a small window that shows the available files in current directory seems actually like a cool idea
1:48 *my eyes are now blinded*
This would make the perfect linux terminal application for a tablet.
Very 80s sci-fi vibes :D
One of the loot disks in ComputerCraft has a disk called alongtimeago, and it tries to have the entirety of the Star Wars movie in ASCII, but I guess it didn't quite fit and ends with a rickroll instead.
Pretty kool yes, functional and useful I don’t know.
How to make people subscribe to your channel in 3 seconds : *intro music*
You misspelled dislike and an urge to say F your intro. Scared the hell out of me.
Lucky that now I am using this terminal. And he got a like.
@@LucyPLM win-win
That thing as an own os would be cool.
Looks like the ideal smartphone UI.
Very cool
lolll that's so cool :D :P like driving a fancy car but for nerds like me :P let me ask you: how do you create the sound vu-meter & what video-editor do you use? btw, nice tune for the outro!!
Thanks for the comment!
The outro song is from "Brain Dead" by my band More Sun!
The Superfan credits themselves were created in Blender by our graphics guru Naseef.
Nice video
I totally need this in my life.
It's pretty awesome to have on a secondary monitor.
Linux For Everyone I didn’t even think about that possibility, good idea. I was only thinking about keeping one up on a virtual desktop!
