I believe this was recorded on pretty standard Marshall gear. JCM800's and JMP 100s. Which tons of people still use. I think he also used a Rockman Sustainor, which are around $500 used. So very attainable. Personally, I bought a 5150 back in 2002, and it's hard to choose anything else when I need gain.
Actually they do, it's just rare.

+Santiago Hernández I believe this song is about Vic Rattlehead (MegadetH's mascot). And the reason I think that is because this song is followed be Rattlehead. I think this was like an origin story for Vic.
Yes, they say it is about Vic. However, originally Boots was track #4 as the Side A closing song. Rattlehead was the first song of Side B.

The original CD and vinyl record of this album sound just fine. One you tuber said the original mix of this album sounded dated and sloppy both of which are not true. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. The original mix of this album sounds the best to me.
The problem with the remasters is that they are too perfect. The originals had a signature sound that come from the lower quality production, and the various mistakes that were made. But those mistakes weren't bad - they are iconic. They made the originals so popular. It was recorded on the skill of the musicians. The remasters sound to polished and perfect, and have no aggression to them.
I can't listen to the remasters because of the terrible drum sound.
There is no such thing as "too good." If you're seriously going to knock points off of an album because it's "too perfect," then what the hell are you doing listening to music?
@@Rob23765 They aren't good honestly. They lack aggression. And the drumming fills are dead. Some details in the song here are not present in the 2002 remaster. The 2018 remaster has all of those details, but I think if the 2002 remaster did something correct, it was with the mixing of bass and lead. The 2018 remaster has decreased the lead down significantly in my opinion.
A lot of times I like the raw pure sound of the old days, when rock guitars were not doubled and over distorted. Guitars today sound like machines and not like strings singing. We should not forget that music is only good if it sounds great with any kind of instrument.

@@lucasissa5536 Ive never associated megadeth with "heaviness." Of course, they got heavier as time went on. What made megadeth rlly special was dave's unorthodox riffs and song structures.

at minute 2:19 you can imagine the doctors fastening the patient , resisting his attempts from escaping, especially added with the bass before the ‘prepare the scalpel part’ adds the rush of the situation. Not that im a sadist but the tempo really plays a good role to picture the scenario

Austin Brake best is defined "the most excellent". While all of megadeths drummers were great, gar was by far the best. The closest any of them came to being able to play like gar did on this album was nick. And nick couldn't quite nail it. Oh he came close, and even added his own little menza touch, but couldn't do it like gar. Nick was a great drummer . gar was a pure talent
What's sad is, they're both dead now. Nick died on the 21st. Rust in peace.

I honestly prefer Peace Sells but this is a kick ass album.

I could never understand why this album is so underrated. The riffs and solos are very unique to this day, mixed with a nice level of technicality. You just get a real sense of anger and rage, representative of what Dave was feeling at that time.

After reading an article with Ellefson saying this was originally slower I am listening to it at 75% and it grants the riffs a little more impact. They will always be 1000x better than Metallica

Let's not dredge up bad blood especially when there isn't really much between the bands these days. :)

I was one of the lucky ones to see them live during this tour and Peace Sells....in Sacramento. The band was so close they were right in the pit with us.
