Talk about an Ableton portable. This thing takes batteries so it's portable. |t will export Ableton-compatible tracks. You could use this as a sequencer for external hardware, recording midi to its 16 tracks for storage and playback as performance with or without using its internal sounds.
It features 16 tracks on which you can place any combination of drum sounds or synth patches. you aren't limited to what goes where. it will record 64 steps, as 4 banks of 16 steps, and has a chain mode feature on the most recent software updates, so you chain another 64 steps to follow on from the first.
The screen keeps you informed, so its easy to select a sound category and from that select the drum sample, or synth patch. It has loads of filter types, as well as some decent built-in effects. The synth sounds can be tweaked 'live' using the knobs controlling the ADSR parameters. you can build patterns as step time, eg one note at a time, or press record and play your notes/drums in real time.
Despite its appearance, this is not a toy. This is a serious synth with a sequencer and drums built in. Be warned the electribe2 comes in two versions, the sampler version which can record sounds, and the regular version with fixed sounds.

I think the Electribes are good for novices or experienced users. I've been using electronic grear for 25 years +, have Ableton and a ton of plugins and hardware gear. The Electribe is the most inspiring piece of gear I've owned in that time!
The Electribes are just so quick to use, they help keep your inspiration going, I think too that the most recent generation is far, far better than the first gen Electribes.
I owned a few of those, the first model ER-1 (red), the green sampler one, blue synth one, the latest Gen is much easier to use (plus can run on battery power).

I got the E2 Sampler about a year ago, and never looked back. It plays well with other gear, but it's also got everything you need - drums, synths, effects, a mixer, and plenty of knobs and keys. I think this also has one of the easiest and fastest workflows I've ever used!
These are easy to find for about $300, and for that price you get everything you need to go to town.

Had me sweating there for a sec, just bought an E2S today and didn't want to be told I made a bad decision. Liked the video and subscribed! I hope the algorithm is favorable to you as this is a well made video.

Oh thanks. But DJ Pew Pew cares not for algorithms. Obviously. FYI lately I have been running a TR-06 into my Electribe and it's been a double trouble beat box. I like the punch layering identical sequences with multiple instruments.

I'm going to keep my Electribe 2 forever, it's teaching me so much about making music and while it has limitations I think those limitations are a good thing. I also read a rumor of Korg making a new Electribe for 2025 (unconfirmed) but if they make a new Electribe I'm 100% down. However I still have not mastered the Electribe 2 yet, it' is so capable yet beginner friendly. I don't like DAWs because there is too many options for me to get overwhelmed by and some hardware is too complicated for my beginner skill level. The Electribe 2 is just perfect for me.

Got the sampler version, load hundreds of single cycle waveform. This gear is so easy to use, the workflow is very intuitive. My only regret is the 4 bar loop length limitation, but the good news is we have 16 parts, make it far more flexible than the 2-melodic-track Circuit.

I partially disagree with you on the menu diving. It’s very hands-on for basic operations, but once you try to add a bit of nuance or experimentation it turns to unlabelled shift functions and a menu-maze real quick.

I got this 4 years ago, together with the sampler version, and i really like the synth version, but almost never used the sampler. The stock sounds are not a problem, but samples on the memory card has to be loaded in before you can listen to it, which is VERY inconvenient when you have 30.000 samples on your memory card, and try to find a good one, lol... Back then i had only barely tried designing my own drum sounds on the E2, before i gave up way too quickly. I really should have practiced some more, because the E2 is AWESOME for making drum sounds - and if i had known how "easy" it is, i could have had a lot of fun by sampling it onto the E2... These days i have Maschine MK3, so dont really need the E2S for sampling, but it is still nice to have if i want to make music outdoors.
If anyone wants to enhance their Electribes, they really should consider learning to make stuff in NI Reaktor. The arpeggiator on the E2 is really cool for basslines and drum patterns, but it cant play melodies - so today i made one in Reaktor, that records the notes i punch in on the E2, and programs up to 16 steps/notes into the arpeggiator. It is almost finished, and just needs a few finishing touches, before ill start working on adding modulations (3x envelopes, 3x LFOs, and 1x step sequencer) that i can send to any parameter on the E2. Normally the pads only play a single track/oscillator at once, but i suspect this is a pretty easy fix, by making Reaktor receive the note info from the pads i play, and route it to other tracks on the E2, and suddenly i can play several tracks/layers at once. Once all this is finished, the E2 is gonna seem like much more expensive synths - only those dont have 16 oscillators and 55 waveforms

Learning curve, - yes, I agree it's monstrous. But its capabilities are something else entirely. I have that and Digitakt on my desk right now. And I have to say, Electribe beats it hands down in many respects despite much easier learning curve of the Digitakt.

    • @toonvank6165
      @toonvank6165 Год назад

That’s crazy. I’ve never heard anyone say the E2 beats the Digitakt 😛 I agree with the learning curve. I’ve shelved my unit for prolonged periods only to come back to it and learn new things. Many of the issues I had turned out to be limitations of my own imagination and technical abilities. Compared to earlier electribes it’s not the most immediate and intuïtie machine, but quite capable of you learn to think outside the box (pun intended).

It is a good choice as a first groovebox but make shure to compare to a Roland MC-303 and a Yamaha RM1X. They all are pretty much in the same price range. The Korg sounds better than the other two to me personally but the sequencers are better in the other two boxes. RM1X would be my first choice.

    • @dxtrs_mnpltr
      @dxtrs_mnpltr 2 года назад +2

You gotta work around its limitations, this is not a DAW. The machine forces you to be clever about your decisions which is really cool imo, just like vintage gear. Obviously if you stack voices,fx,filters and motion on every track you’ll max it out immediately but that can also happen in more powerful (and expensive) gear like a Maschine+.

      Maybe...
It depend what you want to do.
I kept the mine, i use it with an external sequencer and it's really more comfortable.
My Big frustrating stuff was (and are for some) :
      - full quantization
      - sample management for sample version (why this format file without application to manage it ??), can't load an entire folder... Poor memory
      - noise on input
      - when plugged to AC it does not charge NIMH (maybe for security about stupid people)
      - 16 voice but only 24 poliphony and automation and FX use 1 voice each
      - poor midi configuration, the implémentation was published years after lunch, in a semi cryptic format
      - only 4 bar, so you try to use chaining pattern but ... :
      - miss some Idea like keep all sound parameter when changing pattern.
      - exporting don't take master FX (?) and when exporting chained pattern you still have separate files per pattern ...
ok for some stuff it can be fun, but it could be a bangger with a little bit more effort by Korg, domage...
I don't buy Korg anymore. This is my choice.

Many hits are just 4 bars, mainly. Also, you can tie one patch to another like "Patch 1 -> Patch 43 -> Patch 23 -> Patch 1" so there is some possibilities. If you want to make "finished songs on one device" it is difficult on this one but depends on what type of music. You can even write the patterns to wave files.

Sampler has the ability to "sample" - meaning to use small recordings as "instruments". It also comes with some preset samples. "Sampler" has less filters and synth sounds than the "normal" electribe. But if you want a "sampler" for something like small guitar riffs or voice shouts, then you can not load that into a "normal" electribe.
