- Paul Simon performs "Graceland" with Willie Nelson live at the Farm Aid concert in Irving, Texas on March 14, 1992. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

I was there. Third row center. My buddy and I were airman at Altus AFB and got tickets for 75 bucks because his dad was a friend of the guy that started Ticketmaster. He was from Oxnard California. We were both 24. To say it was incredible to see all these acts is a complete understatement. So many have passed on now. What a blessing I thought nothing of then. Lol
I can't say I'm a big Willie Nelson fan or Paul Simon fan, but if you appreciate music and the legendary status of these 2 guys, then this is beyond magical 🤘🏿
This is charming: you know, for those who aren't musicians, these things are a lot more difficult than the ease of performance might imply. Willie forgets the last half of the third verse of the song, which is crucial -- the narrator accepts the voice of his female friend ("losing love / is like a window in your heart"), enabling healing to begin. So Simon is not being an egoist, he's just trying to save his song; the chord progression is quite delicate, since the moves through the relative minor depend on mid and upper voiceleading rather than a bass line.

They probably wished they’d rehearsed this, but Simon likely thought Nelson would know the song better since he recorded it. Simon tried to save Nelson who was obviously struggling with the lyrics. To me, it’s a fine yet imperfect live version of the song.
Willy seems to be looking for the cue cards. Still kills it.

Maybe I imagined it, but I remember seeing Paul and Willie on Saturday Night Live doing this song...and it was phenomenal. Can't find video of it anywhere.
You are correct. They did a great version of it on SNL and Willie’s, The Big 6-0 Birthday concert. The latter is even better. Sadly, out of print. So many great performances on that show.

I've always thought this song especially has a real.pretty instrumentation. I'm no musician, so I don't know if that almost bell-like sound is coming from an electric guitar, or maybe a synthesizer? Anyway it's a beautiful song.

Having learned that after their divorce, Carrie Fisher and Paul Simon continued to see each other for almost 10 years, that the woman he's describing in this song was she (or based on her, anyway).

Willie is one of the most chronically underrated guitarists in music, but he's really only underrated by those who don't know much about music. He's as sublime and recognizable a musician as Mark Knopfler or David Gilmore in his own way.

Such a great song on the original studio version, but this is a train wreck of a performance. Willie Nelson cant actually sing, can he? Now I have to listen to the pure, undefiled original version to get this out of my mind! His song “Crazy” beat out many other songs submitted to Patsy Cline by seasoned song writing greats, Willie also wrote night life , funny how time slips away the same week he wrote crazy , 3 standards in one week the sold untold millions and recorded by multiple artists .
