I’ve always said removing the walk in pass would damage the park as it’s an amusement park in a holiday resort not a stand alone park, they need to get back to getting family’s in and not follow merlin and take a good look at closing times at weekends especially during the illuminations and school holidays, excellent video Scott you have really shown what’s happening to the park

All those points you made at the end of the vlog are absolutely spot on. Mark "You Know What" is right, something has to change and that change is new ownership of the park. It's so frustrating that they don't give the punters what they what to keep them coming back i.e. late night riding at the weekends during peak summer season and the illuminations. They should also bring back the 'walk around pass' but with better incentives for the price, not just a go on the River Caves, offer more choice. Rant over.

I will defend this park until I’m blue in the face, but this season I have really fallen out with Pleasure Beach.
The lack of atmosphere, the absolutely shocking closing times, and not to forget the outrageous entry prices, it’s just so sad to see the place so empty.
Usually I visit at least twice a month, yet now I’ve been going Towers more than Pleasure Beach.
I seriously hope things pick up next season.

@@yourexperienceguide it has, and it’s honestly, quite upsetting. Understandably it’s October, it’s cold, but as Mark mentioned, LNR has always occurred on the final weekend of October, and it has always felt so magical.
The one thing that is also putting me off visiting is the £18 parking price. Whereas Towers has free parking for Merlin Pass holders. I understand that Pleasure Beach probably wouldn’t be able to afford it, and due to obviously the park size and it just being a standalone, family ran park rather than a large company.
Somethings to give, I’m honestly really concerned.

Brilliant vlog as per guys, couldn't agree more with all your comments especially with the park being empty, it really does just feel like something is missing, we feel like even reducing the admission cost would draw a lot more people to the park and as for journey to hell... how pathetic it is about the closing time. I've heard the park was quiet and what you can see here is that it's quiet. As for Journey to Hell it's needs scrapping, I've never done it and have no intention of ever doing it because it's a swizz. Oh and I totally agree with you about what you say. Really hope that they can have a positive season next year. It's my favourite park in the country by a mile but it needs to get the atmosphere back that sets it apart from the rest. For me a good day at BPB rivals a good day anywhere in the world.

  • @Coastsandcoasters

We were there yesterday (you were on the same PB express as us) and it was very quiet. We managed to get a lot done but the atmosphere was flat and staff seemed a bit peed off.
We had planned pry to do Journey To Hell, but after seeing the line up went to Scare Kingdom instead.
The Werewolf is great, but aside from a few scattered decs it didn’t feel very Halloween.
Both visits we’ve had this year have been quiet (and coincidentally we have seen you guys both times!) but I’d prefer it to be busier like I remember as a kid. I feel like the park will struggle even more next year as all the major parks are strengthening their line ups. I can’t see PB being competitive with their new pricing plans and tired line up. A huge shame as I love the place.

It seemed like it was even quieter when I visited on the 18th Oct. Despite the retracking of parts of The Big One, I came off the ride thinking that I'd be happy not to ride it again. The Big Dipper was great and on Grand National we tried the trick of sitting in the middle row of a carriage. What a difference it made! Enjoyed the ride this time, whereas in September, it knackered my back! I don't seem to have many problems on Infusion. 🤔 Enjoyed the day overall, but the fact it's been pretty quiet on my visits this year is of concern. Had a similar experience at Flamingo Land. Less than 200 visitors apparently on that particular day (a Monday). It was great in terms of cramming in the rides, but there was no atmosphere, and it raised concerns as to the parks viability.
I'll probably purchase the Platinum Pass for next year, mainly for the free admission days at the other 6 parks which I've yet to visit.

We visited again today and had a great time (gutted we didn't see you though as we spotted you last time we were there in summer!) the crowd level was perfect, busy enough for atmosphere but quiet enough for short ride times. I've only started visiting again in the last few years but I can see why it isn't a walk in park anymore. To have all and sundry walking about without the need to pay to enter or ride would change the clientele a lot I think personally. Maybe a cheaper non rider ticket would be a compromise. On a different note we went to streak first thing and the queue line was filthy and full of litter and gave an awful first impression. They should make the staff members walk along and pick up the rubbish of old drinks bottles and packets at the end of each day. No idea why the management think it's OK to leave the park like that.

Good vlog to watch, many good points made about the park. I live in Blackpool myself I've seen it on the prom myself, 1000s of people on the prom then the pleasure beach just looks like ghost town compared to what it use to be like, specially in 2004 till they introduced the walk on pass, all the people that could just walk on for free, grab a coffee, food etc spending that cash, even the prom units haven't been opened as much this year which has been abit of a downer. But I strongly agree as a former employee and a resident it needs changes to bring life back to the park before it possibly ends up having to shut (whether that would be the case or not might be a video for another day.........hopefully not though)

Was super interesting hearing your thoughts at the end. I was struggling to get in the hype all day and wrote it off largely to an unpleasant personal situation I have going on but on reflection I think it was in part that there was just a bit of a tired atmosphere. I'm more of a theme park person than amusement parks and so it's always slightly on the back foot anyway but I feel like it's appeal at the moment is nostalgia and that's just not enough to sustain it.

Really good honest video Scott. During Covid people couldn’t travel so made the most of what they could do in the Uk and all Uk attractions boomed. Now it’s been saturated and people have less disposable income and choose to spend it on other things.
Perhaps the appeal of Uk theme parks is on the decline for the general paying public. You can’t compare pleasure beach to Merlin as the parks are always dead on the pass restrictions dates so it shows a massive percentage of people visiting are not the paying public but passholders. Things go in cycles people want new things and it’s crucial to evolve and offer new things and it’s easy for Merlin to do this with the budget available.

Spot on lads. Good video. Scottish mid-term break in Oct has reduced to 11-5 opening hours. But once in, rides testing, starting 1145am, then they start closing down at 4pm. Its becoming an absolute rip off. With each passing year, more and more rides not running on day we visit. Raise it with park management to offer feedback etc. No interest whatsoever. Considering looking elsewhere for first time in 13 years of visiting. Can see you gents hurting in that video. Honest and completely justified view points, just hope the park get wind of this and changes happen.

I've said it before too. Bring back the walk on pass. For decades I used to go regularly to PLB with my Mum. She has no interest in the big rides but she loves the atmosphere. I'd go on some rides, we'd have lunch and several coffees/drinks. But now there's no way we will pay full entry for her to go in. So neither of us goes in. We go somewhere else and give them our money. It beggars belief Amanda T can't see this.

I'm still a big fan (I've got a brick in the wall and recently spent 12 months recreating the entire park on Planet Coaster -You can see the results on my channel - shameless plug 😂) but I agree something has to change. Every time I've been this season it's been really quiet and I'm wondering how on earth they are making much of a profit at this rate. Something needs to be done about the admission policy. Not only the prices but also the process of having to upload photos of each visitor in your group to a useless app that never seems to work at the ride turnstiles anyway. I'm sure in the past, the Pleasure Beach got so many visitors who'd decide to go in for a few hours on impulse while in Blackpool and spend money on a few rides. Nowadays it seems to be too much like hard work to even get in. On the plus side I'd much rather walk on to Icon or the Big One than wait 2-3 hours in a queue for the Smiler ! Also even though Journey to Hell wasn't the best this year I loved the changes to Ghost Train (new audio and costumed scare actors around every corner) and the actors in Twisted Tunnels deserve a shout out. They were brilliant.

Some of the website is truly weird. a £120 season pass for Hot Ice. Really? It's as much as an Alton Towers annual pass, that starts at any point you want in the year and lasts 12 months and includes free parking. The parking SHOULD be included in a £189 season pass at minimum. Driving 3-4 hours to get there, for the prices the park charges and the hotels and I can sort my own parking out is completely unbelievable compared to other parks to say the least.

The big one could really do with a majority if not full retrack, I love it as a ride but it's getting unbearable now. Last time I rode it I ended up bashing my knee into the seat in front because of a jolt near the bottom of the drop which hurt for about an hour, the profiling around the big blue doesn't feel right, it was jiggling around the turnaround, it's just uncomfortable and it ruins the ride experience. I honestly wouldn't mind if it was closed for a year and they just redid it, but whether the pleasure beach can afford that is another question

Well the fact is since 2004 when Amanda Thompson took over the only big investment has been Icon. In that time the park has lost Space Invader (not replaced), Trauma Towers (not replaced), Wild Mouse (not replaced) and Black Hole Waltzer in the dark (also not replaced). These are just some rides gone from the park.

Not sure if Blackpool is too big a park but have you seen how PB Great Yarmouth opertes now. You buy a card for £5 which gets you entry into the park all year plus one ride. You can then top up your card at machines inside the park for the rides you want to go on. Just a thought.

Lots of factors involved with the quietness. Walk up on the day prices are really expensive. Book a week in advance prices are expensive really for a northern seaside town. The weather looked terrible though and when I have been in August queue times for Icon etc were over an hour so people do go. I think the season for BPB is too long and it maybe needs to be shortened. You can’t compare Thorpe Park with BPB as the catchment of people for Thorpe is massively higher.

We did journey to hell on Sunday night (29th October). This was the first time we have ever done it. It was OK, not thrilling by any means but just ok. Some of the actors really got into the spirit of it, while other elements were a damp firework in all honesty. They really need more jump scares across all the areas. What was interesting was the scare mazes and seeing parts of the park normally off limits. Ok to do once, but don’t think I’d do it next year unless I hear much better reports.

The new Ghost Train audio wasn't working today (Sunday) - I promise it does exist though!
I found it shocking how empty the park was today, even though I'd seen your photos beforehand. Icon at 5-10 mins queue, Big One only had a queue as it ran one train. The atmosphere in the dark was non existent. Big One's lift hill lights off looked awful.
I strongly agree with the things Scott said, I grew up in this place and remember the park absolutely buzzing. It's utterly tragic seeing how it's all gone so wrong. JTH is such a mistake when we could have had late night riding. It's like the day ends before its begun

Whoever is making the currently decisions out of park in the offices needs to wake up big time, walk round the park talk to guests to get feedback both good and bad reviews, as they’ll up with the park closing down if they ain’t careful which no one wants at all.

Sad to see it so dead. There's so much stuff they could do to get people in, it's crazy they're not doing more. They should definitely bring back the walk around pass for a start. Pay one price makes no sense for a seaside amusement park. They've already invested in the e-ticket system so it seems like a no brainer. They could even allow non riders to pay for individual rides through the app, just like you can pay for a ride on Enzo. £5 entry fee plus £5-10 for each ride. Kind of like the old ticket system but modernised.

Easily solved your points at the end....end the absolutel ballache that is the e-ticket and scanning your phone on every bloody ride! Puts me off coming a lot more than i do. Bring back rider wristbands and the non-rider ticket, the amount of parents, grandparents that comment about this ... unreal. Say £15 and chuck in a cuppa aswell, something like that. Solve the flat atosphere instantly. Bring back the ability to purchase a go on a ride should you choose, you mentioned South pier, spot on...i went on that mouse ride , and for me and my daughter it was £8! Let’s be real. Blackpool Pleasure Beach is an absolute mess. The park is in turmoil. The fact you’ve put journey to hell at the bottom of your list speaks volumes. I struggle to see how the place turns a profit. For me the park is at rock bottom and needs new ownership to change for the better.
