I remember when I took the 640-801 in 2005 and I don't think I had one question on subnetting. HOWEVER, to get the correct answer for almost every question, so it seemed, you had to know subnetting! When I took the exam I could subnet in my head with no problems and even then I only have 15 minutes left out of 90 so when someone says they failed the exam because they ran out of time the first thing that comes to my mind is they didn't practice subnetting enough.
