FYI think Michael was referring to the actual picture of the tape being the same on each jacket, not the tape cover itself with the track listing

The way he stated it I took it to mean the same box and info as well. Maybe he only meant the physical tape in the box which appears to be the same across titles. Could have been simple photoshop of one tape. Of course to me the Information is most interesting not whether the exact physical tape in the box is that exact tape. If I misunderstood, my apologies to Mr. Fremer.

I owned both the MFSL Beatles Collection Box and the 1978 Parlophone BC-13 Blue Box at the same time back in the 1980's. I ended up selling the MFSL Box after owning it for ten years, because I just found the sound of the BC-13 Blue Box more satisfying. I even added the German Horzu pressing of Magical Mystery Tour to my Blue Box. I still own that one now.

A few years back I snagged a sealed blue box for about 700.00. This one is mid-80s but pre-digital mastering, and no seam splits. Until such time as there is an all analog upgrade on the level of the mono box from a few years back, this will do just fine...

Great video, David! I have The Beatles MFSL (individual records), and the mono box set released a few years ago. I much prefer the mono version over the MFSL. I played the mono records to some audiophile friends, who could not believe how good they were. I, too, have the Liverpool box set on the UK pressing. It's a great set to have in your collection.

I don't think the Capitol albums were crap. I love them.

Sentimentally I love them too. But Capitol did some excessive tweaking to tracks with reverb and compression vs their UK counterparts. Thing is, back then we didn’t know or care. Capitol made the records for radio play…

Totally agree the BC13 Blue Box is better sounding overall than the MOFI box. The only knock on the Blue Box is the sleeves are flimsy and the box isn't too durable but if we're just talking sound none of that matters.

I was able to get the MFSL Beatles box for $250 through a friend that owned a record store. It was number 354. Myself, I thought the albums were muddy sounding. When I compared them to the 2012 reissue in an A B comparison I found the MFSL had a lot of low rumble while the 2012 reissue did not. I ended up getting rid of the MFSL box in favor of the 2012 box. ???

Wow you have an early set of the MFSL set! I recall the 2012, which I think was pressed at Rainbo, had a lot of pressing quality issues, so you may have lucked out as the return rate of that set was extreme enough for Amazon to pull it from sales at the time due to excessive returns. I will have to listen for the low rumble on MFSL as I don’t recall it but need to check on current (better) equipment. Thanks for watching and
      Commenting.

The issue with this set is the boss at MFSL at the time had bad hearing. Had Stan change the eq. So he did. And not for the better. Never liked the sound of these. They were mastered from the original mastertapes. Anything else said of the later is in error. A fact that makes the mastering even sadder: AAA with meh eq.
Any of the 70s stereo cuts from the so called Blue Box BC13 are better. By the way the Blue Box was simply individual pressings placed in a box. 2 box EMIs over the MFSL box also. Now I will say that a couple of the individual MFSL such as Sgt Peppers are mastered by someone else and better than the box set versions. But really, stereo 2 box are the way.

Interesting story if the boss of MFSL had bad hearing, ouch! When you say "2 box EMI" what are you referring to? Can you reply with Discogs link? My Blue Box was 1 box only...

Of course the biggest blunder in the MFSL box was the use of the 3 fake stereo songs on MMT. I think the value of this set was enhanced due to the boxes being numbered & MoFi’s reputation. Not the best sounding pressing. I have the first four individual albums. Sounds cloudy, probably due to boosted bass.

    • @SafeAndSoundTXAudioExcursion
      @SafeAndSoundTXAudioExcursion  2 года назад

Oh the MMT was a travesty for sure. I have the German Horzu press with true stereo; which may be the only one that has it so if that's true, MFSL's hands may have been tied somewhat. Once I got the Blue British Box, it was obvious the MOFI were subpar...

It’s funny that you guys (back in the day) didn’t know about Beatles UK presses. That’s all you had to get. Not even originals. The 70’s represses are the same thing

The MFSL Beatles box set IS ridiculously expensive!, plus I don't like the covers featuring master tapes?, they look bland & lame & they should've instead featured all the original released picture covers, for the expensive price I honestly think that is just not worth it for a box set of bland lame black & white shots of master tapes on ever cover?... ridiculous!, I would honestly go for the original U.K BC 13 Beatles Collection blue box cos THIS is the definitive collection for any die-hard music fan, all you need extra to make up the missing gaps is the "Collection of Beatles Oldies", "Magical Mystery Tour" & "Hey Jude", Anthology 1,2 & 3 albums & of course the recently released "Now & Then" single to fully complete the original catalogue of songs.🎶 🎵

    Beatles IMO:
Please Please Me -get the Horzu Die Beatles
With The Beatles - Beatlemania!!! (canadian press "wide" stereo. The 2012 is good also)
Beatles For Sale- -2/-2 stereo UK 70's)
    A Hard Days Night- 2 Box 70s
Help! (Mofi individual is good. But 2 box 70s better. I prefer solid state on this one)
Rubber Soul- (mono -5/-5 UK ..stereo mix sucks)
Revolver (mono UK original. Sorry no way around this. the 2014 mono will do nicely in a pinch though)
MMT (Mono 2014 (best of mono reissues imo) and the Horzu "true stereo" German lp (be careful get the right stampers ..same goes for "Beatlemania!!!" canadian stereo pressing)
Sgt Peppers (2014 mono and UK for stereo. The individual MFSL is good also)
White Album (2012 stereo sucks imo. The level matched all the songs. Booooo. Ruins the feel. So yeah back to the 70s stereo UKs and for mono the 2014)
    Abbey Road (-1/-2 UK)
Let It Be (French White Vinyl 70s press with UK og stampers)
