4:30 pips chosing his next read
Ahhh I thought I would be the first to comment this but :””)
So adorable
What was the book he pointed at? :D
@@mnthys not sure, but I shall find out and read it #recommendationsbypips
Did you see the Fear Is The Mind Killer in black on the plain black cover of Dune? That's awesome.
That made me 'Oooo' also. Came here for a WoT 30th review. Ended up wanting a Dune book.
Having that just jump at you like that once you get it to the right angle is terrifying and amazing
I have no idea what Daniel didn't comment on it, hadn't he seen it before?
@@thehoogard He mentions 'black imprinting' and 'pressed on', because that effect is done with a heat-press, I believe, which flattens the fibres of the hard-back surface and makes them slightly shiny.
So cool
Daniel: Brings out dune special edition.
My wallet: *Nervous Sweating*
The Dune cover is so gorgeous but the Eye of the World is like you said - just acceptable. I hope future editions get the Dune treatment, giving us some pretty covers with the show's release. Blood and bloody ashes, WoT shouldn't be passable. It should be glorious!
unfortunately well probably get horrible live action covers
They're just gonna throw actors' faces on the covers, I know it...
Ah, but that's the magic of Robert Jordan's words! Less stunning art than say The Way of Kings or Dune special cover, but when you read, from the gripping prologue: unlike anything even Fellowship of the Rings -with its endless beginnings of intro, foreword and prologue and Old Gaffer - (hey, to bookend the film's endless endings) can conjure, that can leave you breathless as you are then introduced to Rand and his father...and then you have the other set of dynamic cover artwork (minus the so so sailing cover). Plus the blue Eye of the World famous cover and portable paperback style is something to look forward to. It's kinda like the simple cover or the sleeveless hardcover look that says "all you need to enjoy this book is to read it." Also I take it Dune is high concept but the prose is particular or a matter of taste? Jordan's book one in experience as a paperback (don't fear the depth) surpasses all mentioned. Maybe Daniel can make a video on best first book of a fantasy series!
Well, I was more excited about your cat trying to grab one of the books than this 30th anniversary edition, that kind of says it all
I wanted to know what book he was looking for .
Damn that Dune cover is crazy hot.
It's nice, but how does it compare to the standard polish edition?

Nice, huh?
@@jamtex2 Holy SHIT, that's mad
We need more illustrated editions in Fantasy and SciFi. I LOVE the illustrations in the Stormlight books.
yeah, atleast as many Illustrations as in Japanese Light Novels.
Just read some fantasy/sci-fi comics. Some are badass.
@@anthonycrayne2835 I mean yeah, but I'd call those a different genera. Comic Books and traditional books are like apples and oranges.
Anthony Crayne I haven’t seen any comic that catches my eye ever. Comics are even less common here in Germany than Manga are. And frankly I haven’t seen any good comic adaption film either, all these Superman/x-men/Spider-Man things are super boring compared to most manga and epic fantasy. But to be fair, I just do not like heavy action shows, where the sole purpose is fighting against one crazy evil guy.
Which is why I will never say they are shit, to many people like that kind of thing, it can’t be shit, right?
All I want is more illustrations in the books to feed my fantasy with the pictures the author saw while creating the story. Like one picture of caemlyn, or a common room from the inns. I don’t even need/want characters just some world building scenes that can do what a full 2 pages of written words can not.
Wheel of time is so old, there are many Fanart which Harriet could choose from to include into the books. They just have to find the Artist, get permission to use it and print it. Or use scenes from the TV series.
Can't believe a tree had to die for something so underwhelming.
Why do I get the feeling there is a boiling rage brewing inside Daniel because this seems incredibly disrespectful to a classic.
I wouldn't say he's disrespectful to a classic, just the way the anniversary edition is produced. Eye of the World is still Eye of the World, but you'd expect more than just a slightly different cover for something like this.
Martin Madsen I don’t think they meant Daniel was being disrespectful, but rather the art being disrespectfully underwhelming. I might be wrong, though
It would have been nice to see a new take on the map.
I was expecting some fanart of the characters in between chapters or something like that...I like the blue and red hard cover tho but still it's kinda disappointing
Seems a missed opportunity to not have an artist do as you expected, such as Corey Lansdell who does great work using the appearance of the cast members as a basis to draw the character they will be playing.
Here's a link to the Instagram account where you can find his artwork. instagram.com/thirdageart/?hl=en
brother Buddha thanks for the link homie
@@Junya01 your welcome amigo
Daniel isn't drunk when he's talking about book covers 🤔
Kinda sus tbh
Sus
I imagine him having that 0,7 of smirnoff cold and ready and then after he saw the cover he was like NAAAAH
I'm 60 pages off finishing The Eye of the World. I was slow getting into it, but I'm officially hooked on The Wheel of Time. It's amazing!
@@janeswitthake1836 That's awesome. Thank you so much.
200 0pages away myself! Will definitely check our that podcast too
I just finished the last book, it's so good.
same Im reading it with my book club and it took time to get into but it 's amazing 200 pages left!
@@janeswitthake1836 I would watch that if they were shorter. Hour long episodes each chapter idk bout that
You've convinced me to start reading WOT once I've finished ASOIAF lmao. Only been subbed for about a week but love your channel so much. You've opened my eyes to fantasies other than LOTR and ASOIAF, so thank you!
Well you are in for a very special journey and your timing for getting into the series is quite good as it coincides with an increase in interests in the series from both longtime fans and those new to the series. There is a large amount of WOT content being made right now including content specifically geared for those new to the series that's just ready and quite often waiting earnestly with open arms and warm welcomes for all WOT first time readers to hop right in.

Good luck! :)
4:33 AAAA KITTY!!!... by the way good video but What a beaUtiFUl KITTY
I'm on page 500 of Eye of the World. Took some time to get into it, but I'm there. Only problem is I have to be careful what I do going forward as I have managed to avoid spoilers so far and want to keep that up. Thanks for getting me here
Love that cover of Dune, but for me nothing beats the beauty of the recent editions of the original series that all have the matching art and aesthetic done by Jim Tierney. Love those so much they look so awesome together.
4:11 - love the graph element 🤩
I need to replace my Paperback of Eye of the World and basicly all other Books of the series sometime "soon", to worn out from reading. I just hope they release a full Set of the Series in nice good Hardcover format and do complete new Artwork for it. Then include a changeable sleeve with the old Arts. Thats my dream and I will keep dreaming and waiting for it.
Edit:
by the way, I'd pay about 750-1000 € for a complete set of that.
The Dube book pages tinted blue (for water) look awesome.
Dune special edition dunks on the EotW 30th edition but I actually love the minimalist look. I now have the entire series and hardcover so it feels nice to at least have this 30th anniversary edition to kind of bring the whole thing together even though I can agree that it's a little bit lackluster.
1:54 The font size is bigger than the mass paperback. Damn good.
4:29 the cat in the back lol
I got mine yesterday, release day, too. I completely agree with your review. I own the Dune edition you showed plus the special editions of the first 2 A Song of Ice and Fire books. I’m very pleased with all 3 of those. When I opened the box my husband asked how it looked. After examining it I said, “eh, it’s ok, but not great.” He suggested I return it. I’m not cuz I hate dealing with Amazon returns, like you I preordered it ages ago. If I had bought it at a local bookstore I might have returned it. But I haven’t been in a physical bookstore since just before the pandemic. I doubt I’ll preorder anymore WoT special editions, but wait to see reviews. The only thing I found interesting was Brandon Sanderson’s forward and that will probably be online soon. Unless you really want a hardback of EotW don’t waste your money.
Just started Eye of the world. Love it so far! Read half of it in a week, which is really quick for me! Can’t wait to finish! Thanks for introducing me to this series! 😁👍
I'm loving the new effects on the ratings and cut-ins
wow.. Daniel, you are making me really want to get that DUNE edition. the way you handle the hardcover copy are just so cool and desireable. i am a hardcover book myself. good job man
@Daniel Greene list idea: Best editions of books. Please make this happen. I love books as art pieces. Brandon Sanderson's leather-bound books are great.
Yea its unfortunate its not redone like Brandons leather-bound. But hey that wot dragon collection that you have where the spines fit together is badass.
The leather bound was a Kickstarter tho, wasn’t it?
@@a_bookish_gemini Way of Kings was a Kickstarter, but the earlier books (Mistborn era one, Elantris and Warbreaker) are just sold on his website.
pinianna gotcha, didn’t know that
Just made me really appreciate that Kickstarter Sanderson did for the 10th Anniversary Way Of Kings Leatherbound.
Very informative vid!
OK, just a quick note. Whenever you start your videos, I just immediately hear Jenna Moreci says "Helloooo Everybody..." just as you do, and I can never unhear it! XD
(I think I've said this before in another video, so, sorry if I'm repreating myself, but I just hear it every time!)
Thank you Daniel for recommending the wot. I am currently half way through the eye of the world and I already think it might be my favourite fantasy series of all time.
Rockin' the hoodie!
The best part of waking up... Is Daniel's new video
4:28 aww it's Pips I've missed him
Pips was trying to read something at 4:30.
Just wanted to say, your new visual rating system for reviews etc looks very nice!
i wanted to see how the the eye of the world book looks because im tempted to buy it (i only read wheel of time as ebooks) AND NOW IM HERE AND I WANT THIS DUNE BOOK :O
Started Fires of Heaven. Cheers for getting me into WoT, Daniel.
I saw the 30th anniversary edition when I was at the bookstore on the weekend and I thought cool but kind of underwhelming. I then looked at the price and I thought this is not worth the 45.00 CAD for it. I’m in love the UK covers, they are minimalist but so beautiful. I ordered 1-8 from book depository.
Daniel starts opening the box and I'm like:
"Be gentle, you are gonna scratch the book! Dear God I am gonna faint 😳"
Ooh fancy graphs! (4:20 or so)
I was actually very hesitant to buy that copy of Dune (I had no idea it was so SO gorgeous) and was really, really excited for the 30th Anniversary edition of The Eye of The World. Ironically enough, after watching this video, I have now decided to forgone teotw and my special edition of Dune is now on its way (though it'll be MONTHS before I get it).
Looking just at the jacket art, I like more the blue one you showed, it looks "more fantasy"
I brought the just a few days back, just because you recommended it😉😁 can't wait to start it after completing Mistborn which is also your recommendation😂
I just got my copy, too, and I agree it's a bit underwhelming. I do love the forward from BrandoSando.
I would have loved to see some new illustrations or new map art :( maybe even the ravens prologue included as an extra. Anything 😩
It did come with the ravens prologue. Or at least mine did, but I got mine a couple months after it came out, so it might have been added later.
You know when Daniel does a dance at the beginning then you know he's about to have a good time
Happy 30th anniversary, Wheel Of Time. I now plan to read The Wheel Of Time sometime this year.
It was good to see Pips in there too!! He looks well!!
On the book, I'm meh. I already have my hardback collection. I don't need another, unless they do something so over-the-top that I can't help but buy it!
This review convinced me to go buy that Dune hardcover, thanks for that
aw pink berry daniel
sending my love and virtual hugs
Wow ur books looks amazing luving the series by Robert Jordan!! Happy reading to u!!
I have the Barnes & Noble Collectibles Edition of the Wheel of Time and it is by far my favorite
I was going to buy the 30th edition, but your point about the a new edition coming out after the show comes out makes sense. Thanks for the review.
Loving that intro!
Pips browsing the bookshelves was epic! 4.48 time. Hehe 😉 a true book tube kitty 🐱.
I'm not an expert but if I were going to put out a book like this right before the TV came out so I had a better idea what to include in the much bigger printing later. Even if you're unwilling to change the front cover having art on the inside could certainly give them some feedback on what art styles are popular.
The red ribbon is a nice touch at least
I just really want a fully illustrated edition with original artwork that is designed to be part of a set. In short, I want Folio Society to get their hands on this series.
You would have thought with the upcoming adaptation they would have taken the chance for some extra marketing by making a really powerful 30th anniversary edition; the same way Dune has done by releasing novels around the time the film versions come out. Hopefully in the future they do use these opportunities.
I really hope they come out with a hardcover set when the show does air. OR they could have done something with Barnes and Nobles Leatherbound and just released them all like that. I LOVE THAT LEATHERBOUND. I got lucky lSt week found one at a barnes and nobles 4 years after it was released. Good luck getting them for cheap on ebay. Mines still sealed in the wrapper. Woohoo
I needed a new copy, so I'm happy
I got mine as well and was like oh this is it ok I’ll put it on the shelf
Hoooooonestly the comparison is another book with poster and one image, and some coloured cover ...
For 30th edition I rather have like a box. Filled with info about authors, fans, pictures , more in depth around characters and some nice statue of rand al thor or Perrin or.. yes the book cover as a statue
that would be do awesome !
Wheel of time is the best fantasy novel written. It fkn towers over the successful game of thrones series in terms of world building character interaction, consequences and engagement to build various ways of talk for every single characters it has over 200 side characters too.. Its undeniable and indescribable a classic masterpiece.
“You can never know everything, and part of what you know is always wrong. Perhaps even the most important part. A portion of wisdom lies in knowing that. A portion of courage lies in going on anyways.”
My favorite version is the Barnes and Nobles "leather" bound
The Jordan estate thanks you for your purchase 😂😂😂
I wish we could get more pips cameos like at 4:28. Like a cat version of Stan Lee
Daniel instantly looks like a literature critique with his glasses!
I must say that the original covers looks like a book id find in my middle school library and never read. They looked like an old book, but not old enough to come across as a classic. This 30th anniversary Edition isnt crazy different, but they did a GREAT job of making the old, outdated cover look like a classic. I like it!
would have been cool to have anniversary covers.
I wish we would get special editions like they are doing for RobinHobb's Farseer trilogy. They are gorgeous, naked hardcovers that aren't that expensive. Not even as expensive as Sanderson's leather bound editions, which I would love to have but can't afford. At least I can afford the Robin Hobb ones a year apart.
Now I want that dune version.
Received my copy today and had just about the same reaction. While it's underwhelming, I can't complain too much since it's my first time owning a copy of Eye of the World. I will say though, I've been unimpressed in how Amazon packages their books because mine came damaged too. It was in worse condition compared to what you have, so I already requested a replacement.
As far as Dune goes, I do really like that edition, but I think I'm gonna save up and try and get that Folio Society (non-limited edition that sold out ) around the holidays.
I have a bad habit of buying books for the covers and right now I really, really want that Dune Hardcover.
I like it. But I hate dust jackets so I don’t judge it on that. Never read it but might buy it and start the journey!
I’m now really curious what book Pips was going to take from the bookshelf
Just got mine 🙂
I saw this at my bookstore, kinda wish I bought it now
4:30 A Wild Pip Appears!!
Daniel: stabs box
Box: 👁👄👁
Hopefully they do an Illustrated edition of the entire series.
I can't wait to get my Subterranean Press edition of 'A Little Hatred'.
Hi bro . Have to looked at "Raven's shadow" book one is the best in my opinion its name in "blood song"
Even with all its fault I think I like the original cover rather than the silver minimalist one. Of course I have the new WoT covers as shown in the back there so that they all mach. Two of the books I could get only had the minimalist covers anyway, white and black respectively. I would really have wanted the GOOD cover with Rand with callandor and Nynaeve/Moiraine instead of a white? background with the wheel/serpent combo. But what was all that was available for me at the time so whatever.
Anyway, a bit disappointing it looks like for an anniversary edition. If there is a new hardcover run when the shows comes out I'll probably jump on that, some of mu hardcover editions look a bit... well read? Probably not, SoIaF (GoT) only got paperback re-prints and that was fairly popular even so. Oh well... :-)
Please can someone tell me where I can get the original hardcover?
Has there been any official news about a new paperback edition of the series? Or new hardcovers for each of the books following this 30th anniversary edition of book one?
I see they recently redid the mass market edition, but I prefer the paperback or hardcover.. and it's hard to obtain the first editions of either of these..
You're probably right about the show coming up. They may have been hoping it would line up with 30th but didn't happen in time.
That LOTR moment was 👌👌👌
I like the Barnes and Noble edition better, which I got. Still might pick it up because I like alternative covers and whatnot. Already have multiple copies of most of the books lol
Does anyone know if the juniper dust jacket fits this?
Even though it is disappointing, I do hope that these hardcovers will be shipped worldwide, as in Europe the hardcover are very rare.
Where can I get a full set of the hardbound for Wheel of Time?
I don't necessarily mind used, but would prefer new from the perspective of the quality of the book (when buying online a bit more difficult to adequately judge condition, especially when the pictures are taken of a book not representative of what they're sending).
As a person who read the books on an eReader I am not upset about the edition. If I did have the books in hardcover already, that would be a different story. I do agree about the extra brush over on the cover versus what's shown on Amazon.
That "brush" look that you saw in the original image (at least based on the image you showed in the video) is probably due to that being a low quality image of the original digital image. So probably not an actual photo of the actual book jacket from the actual book it's self.
Low quality images like that can somethings cause certain digital "artifacts" to show up in images... especially if you have a slow color gradient shift going on in the image, where you can see literal lines across the image where the color shifts.
I love it!
The cat was picking out his next read.
Hi Daniel, unrealated question. I finished fires of heaven and like to watch your summaries and reviews on the books afterwards. I noticed there isn't a review for Lord of Chaos, why is that?
This special edition also includes the second prologue, Ravens. Which I guess is fine, but I cannot for the life of me understand why they put it at the very beginning, *before* the original prologue. That means the first three chapters start when the characters are like 10, jump back in time 3k years for the prologue, then forward to when the characters are about 19... Wut? They could have at least put them in order.
