I’ve been watching Stephen for a few years, and every time I don’t feel like practicing… I watch his RUclips stuff. A minute or two later and my fiddle is in my lap and I’m ready to work.
I get up every day around 5- 5:30, grab coffee and an instrument. Warm up a little and practice and I’ve been doing it for 10 years. If I would’ve done it it earlier in life I would’ve been a monster ( slow learner Lol) . However, it’s the journey not necessarily the destination. I have improved a ton.
I love it, how in talks like that you make the other one feel comfortable, heard and that their oppinion is worthy to hear. Love Stephen's input on the genre, great inspiration! Thx, man!
Playing from the heart is only good if it is accompanied with a ton of study and practice. A friend of mine always says “ you have to put the time in to open doors”.
Well said. I've been sick to death for decades of players who neglect technique, theory and the like claiming to 'play from the heart'. Most of them must have hearts filled with used kitty litter.
Love your channel Andy and this guy is amazing but for my money the best shredder people never heard of is Scott Mishoe. A very gifted musician that never broke through for whatever reason...
I didn't think it was a bad interview at all, but literally every single interview I can find with Stephen leaves me feeling like I didn't get what I actually wanted to learn as well To be honest, I don't think Stephen is terribly interested in sharing his secrets, at least not for free. I can't blame him for trying to make money. He's not rich from his EP.
Ouch, my kryptonite, hip slop & “new (pop)” country. 🤢 The quantized mechanical aspect of hip/rap is like fingernails on a chalkboard and the cheesy, sound alike “formula” of pop country also gags me.
Sounds like Ben might be jealous ...all dress up and nowhere to go. Where's he going? He's the one with nowhere to go. Not as many people watching his videos lately. Why you worried about other players videos? If they are clipped together and not as good as they show themselves to be? And your jealous when you see someone has a lot of views? What's really your point? You deserve more views? And you have somewhere to go too? Dont put down other musicians, guitarist making videos. Especially if think your going somewhere. They are no threat to you or where you think your going. This poor kid, you start out saying people are gimmick musicians with poser videos, but not this kid, he records on a phone. Then want him to bust out some chops, and he doesn't.

For me it's the same with Brandon Ellis.
I will check Stephen out though :)

Andy your questions are sooo good. You dig to get to the why. Well done man.
Can't mention killer players in Australia without mentioning Josh Meader. Good lord.
Truth!!! Gotta get Josh on an episode.
or Gambale
Add in Brett Garsed, Irwin Thomas and Simon Hosford.
Josh Meader, the jazz master acoustasonic demo he does…I watched that then went and hit my dumb fingers with a hammer…he is incredible 🔥🔥
He looks like Harry Potter and has his eyes closed constantly like wtf bro
This dude is a genius. His music is a different level, never heard the same 12 notes sound so good.
this made my night been a fan of permanence since it came out. cant wait for the new stuff he's working on.
What an amazing chat. Thanks, gents
I love the fact you are willing to reach out to the less known in the realm of guitar/musicians. You are truly one of a kind!
Great interview! And even greater message...be yourself.
Stephen is the future of guitar
No he isn’t.
Stephen is amazing. He really is inspiring for me. Plini is great too. You might check out Dylan Reavey, and Ben Eunson. Excellent players

I think the rhythmic feel of 90s rap, is a great guitar study. Great interview thank you.
This is such a great hang. Spoke to a lot of things I often think about. Well done!

Sorry, thought this was a crap interview. Wanted to know about his technical picking approach and you never asked.
Trying to not give away what he charges for buddy. Reach out to him and book a lesson.
