  • What do you do when your city is hit with a deluge? How would you minimize the damage to buildings? Ever wondered what Amphibious houses were? This is where Nanma Gireesh comes in. In this talk, Nanma shares how amphibious houses are a better alternative to the standard housing in areas that are prone to natural calamities like floods, as amphibious houses take little to no damage in comparison.
Nanma is a Civil Engineer with post-graduation in Translational Engineering who co-founded an interdisciplinary consultancy firm called NestAbide, currently focussing on Amphibious housing technology and lake rejuvenation projects.
As a solution to the sinking houses in Munroe Islands, Kollam, Kerala, the concept of the amphibious house was first studied. She visited and researched on 32 amphibious houses that are built on the banks of Maas River in Maasbommel, Netherlands, with the help of few professors and natives. Taking inspiration from how Holland sees water, flood and nature, She started and is currently working on implementing the amphibious housing project in Kerala.
She is also an avid painter, dancer and nature lover. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Very relevant topic in the current Kerala delgue context ! But I don't how much it will work out in a place like Kerala where house construction is considered more as a show off than a need

would have been better if the speech had topics on how to execute the idea in the flood prone areas ,cost of the construction , little more technicality of the working process and practical steps for implementing these houses.... instead of the dreams , water quotes and supposed to be jokes...🙄

    • @nanmagireeshsheela

@@donzvaip333 I agree too. I should have. But then, so many true enthusiasts reached out to me to learn more about amphi. We did research and projects together.
Basically my idea was to give away some information and more meaning through stories. Technology through story-telling aiming everyone. And the jokes, I know, terrible! It was to lighten the situation. But they laughed, to at least some of it. The talk was becoming more of an interactive session, which the tech. team definitely edited it out.
In short, my message was (is) resilience, adaptation and my tech. is amphibious engineering.
      😊

@@nanmagireeshsheela Hi, Nanma, I have been researching floating houses for sometime now especially to help our fishing community that saved Kerala during the worst deluge of our times. your thoughts give hope that amphibious houses may be the solution. I'm an advocate practising in Ernakulam. How may i get in touch with you, please?
