    Beautiful cart. Brings back memories. Dad built a luggage rack for his Volkswagen and we loaded my cart on top and took it to empty parking lots to ride it. Many stores were closed on Sundays back then. We also took it out to El Mirage for more bang! Things were so much simpler back then.

    I'm 76 now and I raced one these karts when I was just a kid for 3 years. Mine was exactly like the one you have. On the track they were unbeatable and I give a lot of credit for all my wins to the steering unit and the totally awesome MAC 30's. These were capable of 0-100 mph in the blink of an eye and then some if you had the track to do it.

    Very Nice indeed. I bought one around 1960 and the karts were painted McCulloch yellow with an all black seat. Mine came from the factory in South Bay L.A, I think Redondo Beach, right off the showroom floor. Here's what the sales pitch was for the independent rear ass'y: buy one kart and get two or more rear ass'ys. The idea was that you could run multiple classes with your rear setups ready to bolt on using duals on one and maybe a single on the other, or different motors or different carb setups for stock class and modified alcohol class. That's what they were saying although I never saw anyone do that. To the best of my memory the kart came equipped with a Mac 9 direct drive as that's how we raced in those days. Tillotson carbs were a modification that put you out of stock class. Same with dual carbs and different stuffer plates on the crankcase, some with a carb bolted on at the bottom end.
    MuColluchs were heavy karts because of the 2-part frame, more so than Bug or Go Kart (the brand) and therefore not competitive as a single. I was 14 so single was all I was allowed to run. This was my first kart and I continued to race karts until I finally stepped out at age 47. I was running a Margay enduro in the 80's and in my last 2 years I ran a Margay Expert II sit up in 30 minute enduro races, mostly at Willow Springs. Still have it at age 79. My home track in the 60's was Harbor Kartways behind Ascot Park in Gardena CA. One banked turn was called the Monza.

      That's a great back story and very pertinent information for the kart.. this is the 62 that's why it's blue and white the 61s were yellow

      @@markpoos3782 Yeah, when I wrote that comment I hadn't seen your previous video where you too mentioned the multiple axles, one chassis idea. Still, IDT it carried. Rare karts for sure. Have you found a Moss Kart yet? Parallel side tubes welded space frame style. Motor laid down horizontal inside the frame, not on top.

      OKF, in your opinion how much do you think a kart like this is worth? Do you have any idea of the top speed.. Thx for your time...

    • @OddJobFix
      @OddJobFix 2 месяца назад +1

      @@garyjones2582 I've seen some excellent karts on BaT like you. So we both know that $9000 is possible. Not to me, I'd say 5K is a steal. Fast? Depends on the gearing. At Adams in Riverside CA (I think everyone has heard of Adams) the straight is long enough for a dual like that to do 70. That would be on your best lap coming off the last corner really well. Also, with clutches you are up on the power curve more so and sooner than when I raced direct drive. I'm thinking that due to the very tight last corner it might bog a little for the first 75 feet give or take. Then it would take off.
      Funny that in 1960 we were running megaphones instead of a pipe. How much power was lost because of the lack of an expansion chamber? A lot. By the time I reentered karting in the 70's pipes were absolutely necessary for performance. They were crude by today's design. Later on I used a slippy pipe in enduro. Best of both worlds, long off the corner and pull the steering mounted cable to shorten it as you got to max RPM. That alone was a technique to be understood better by some that constantly finished high in the order.
      Racing against Ron Emmick hisownself was tough as he was lightening fast. When I could pull 13K RPM on the straight, he'd be pulling 14. I'd get lapped by him on a 2.5 mile course at least once. 1 hour race.

      like this modern world, all about "preserving" but theres no similar scope in our time frame of MAKING any monument worth "preserving"...
      sure, a few paintings in a cave are cool, but if some guy hadnt found them by accident you wouldnt know about them and they would be completely UN important...
      romans could make a bridge 2000 years ago thats still standing... were lucky to get 100 years. but dont forget, "we are technologically advanced..., with space age materials and science"
